Grigory Perelman...a great genious and a reclusive, unworldly personality.
Mathematicians all over the world appear to believe that he has solved the famous Poincaré conjecture, the most important and most toughest open problems in mathematics.

But there are rumors that he has abandoned mathematics entirely and uninterested in honors and money. This extremely talented mathematicians is currently jobless and live with his mother in St Petersburg on her modest pension.

John Ball, President of the International Mathematical Union, travelled to St Petersburg to meet Perelman in person to try to understand his reasons for declining the Fields Medal. "However, I am unable to disclose these comments in public," Professor Ball said, adding: "He has a different psychological make up, which makes him see life differently."

hmm I knew 2-d and 3-d perceptions were having errors, finally someone proves it is our perception that did not let us see the multi-dimensions, and some genius!?! thought the 4th dimension was time ha ha .

Its a pity maths genious are such unworldly retards.

Fact that he would rather live of mothers pension than 1million dollars shows he probably doesnt know the difference between 5 cents or 1 million. Reminds me of the autistic kid in Mercury Rising.

He was expected to turn it down. Read this. He is not the first eccentric mathematician certainly not the last. Archimedis, Newton, Nash (The movie A beautiful mind) all were eccentric in some sense. I read some where Newton wrote more about Religion than on Mathematcis

yah..its not surprising that he would do a no show.
i mean, a lot of mathematicians over the years, bn known for eccentric, recluase and every other adjectives out there.
they hv to be retarded to be such a genius.
A simple mind like us might fight over Rajin and Golla's spot in the national team, while a extra retarded genius mind goes and solves what is known as one of math's hardest theories..
