I pray and hope JO and Kapali fail to appear into the playing XI.
No real surprise. Bashar's participation is under serious doubt as he probably requires surgery.
In absence of Bashar it will be really interesting to see the new captain.

I'm not happy to see JO or Kapali's inclusion. Manjurul deserved a place in the squad and yet dissapointed. When will these selectors learn!

We need to choose the best squad of 14 regardless of "bondhu prity and shajon prity". I hope selectors will show their professionalism through fair selection for the best interest of our team and country as well. Good luck Bangladesh in the forthcomming Champions Trophy.

Why JO again? His days are numbered in ODI and he should have long been out of the main squad. Ignoring Manjurul Rana is also not justified at all. Kapali and Javed Omar are the weakest links of this squad.

Mehrab (Jr.) the fresh face
TigerCricket.com Report
27-August-2006 | Left-handed batsman Mehrab Hossain (Jr.) was the only newcomer in an 18-man preliminary Bangladesh squad announced today (Sunday) for September’s ICC Champions Trophy in India.
The 19-year-old Mehrab has been a consistent run-getter at domestic, under-19 and A team levels and has also been a prolific scorer for the National Cricket Academy team which is currently touring Pakistan. He started off as an opener but has tasted success in other positions in the top order. Mehrab is not a natural stroke-maker but provides a calming influence in the middle by accumulating runs. His left-arm orthodox spin has proved useful in limited overs cricket.
Apart from including Mehrab the selectors have decided to keep the whole group that had toured Zimbabwe and Kenya recently. The squad will report for duty on August 29 to Tigers’ fitness training coach Paul Chapman at the Sher-e-Bangla Stadium in Mirpur.
The BCCB has also named the players to represent Bangladesh in the Asian Super Sixes Challenge 2006 in the Pakistani city of Karachi. The hard hitting sixes side has Mohammad Rafique, Mashrafee Bin Mortaza, Aftab Ahmed, Manzural Islam Rana, Sakib Al Hasan, Forhad Reza and the dashing A team opener Nazmus Sadat who has been in excellent form for the A side and the Academy side in recent months.
The tournament will be held from September 13-18.
Preliminary Squad ICC Champions Trophy:
Habibul Bashar (Captain), Shahriar Nafees Ahmed, Javed Omar, Aftab Ahmed, Mohammad Ashraful, Sakib Al Hasan, Forhad Reza, Khaled Mashud, Mohammad Rafique, Mashrafee Bin Mortaza, Abdur Razzak, Syed Rasel, Rajin Saleh, Mushfiqur Rahim, Kazi Shahadat Hossain Rajib, Alok Kapali, Tushar Imran, Mehrab Hossain (Jr.).

Champions Trophy: Tigers' preliminary squad likely to be announced on Sunday
TigerCricket.com Report
26-August-2006 | The Bangladesh national cricket team’s training camp for the ICC Champions Trophy in India begins at the Sher-e-Bangla National Stadium in Mirpur from Wednesday.
The national selectors have chosen an 18-member preliminary squad for the competition which is expected to be officially announced on Sunday. The list might contain one or two fresh faces that have attracted the attention of the selectors by performing at various levels in recent times.
There will be some high intensity fitness training under physical training coach Paul Chapman and assistant coach Mohammad Salahuddin during the first 10 days of the camp beginning with a fitness test for all on day one. The Tigers’ coaching staff have incorporated fielding drills with their fitness regime and Salahuddin, who is also the team’s fielding specialist, will be conducting separate ‘fielding fitness’ sessions for the boys with Chapman.
The pace bowlers will undergo a power endurance session in the first week while there will be strength training for the full squad. For certain players there will be high intensity aerobic.
Coach Dav Whatmore, who is out of the country, is expected back in Dhaka on Thursday. The squad will have their first net session on September 5.
Bangladesh play their first match of the Champions Trophy’s qualifying round against Sri Lanka on October 7 at Mohali. They then travel to Jaipur to face the West Indies on October 11 and Zimbabwe on October 13.

Rafiq and Razzak are left arm spinners.
Saqib and Mehrab also bowls left-arm spin.
So we will have 4 left arm spinners in the team.
Jamaluddin Babu could have been considered as an different type of spinning option: Right Hand off Spin

i like this team. from there i hope alok javed omar mushfikur rahim and habibur bashar will be dropped. habibur is still not 100% so unless he is 100% he shouldnt be included in the team because it wont help the team.if habibur is fit to play then i think tushar imran should be dropped. i was surprised that selectors didnt even include rana in the 30 men group.

Rubu, unfortunately you are right.
I just want to ask the selectors - since their return from African safari what TI, JO and Kapali have done to get their place back?
- what Rana has done wrong that he would get his place back? too many SLA - dont give me that answer. There is already four (Rafiq, raj, Mehrab, Saqib)
- why the offie Jamal babu not included. He could provide the variety. Also againest lefties of WI and SL he would have been handy. His performance in NCL is also good.

1) cardinal sin...unforgiveable like suicide or homosexuality
2) good move, well done
3) what the hell does rana have to do to impress the selectors...yes, he isn't good enough to be on the squad, but neither is JO or Alok, but rana has been shafted time and time again.
4) ummm...we don't really need another spinner, but it would be nice to see a non-SLA once in a while

JO, Kapali........... no comments. I dont think i will see a Bangladeshi team without this two players in my lifetime.
Good to see Mehrab getting a call. He is the missing block in out batting. He should be tried ASAP.
I am just worried who will be the captain if Bashar cant make it. Pilot sucks.. May be..... Shahryar can be given a chance...

Mehrab Jr. to early inclusion...are they trying to make another Ash,Aftab??
Should not be a better idea to send him in training or playing first division international matches and then try to experiment in openning slot. Doing good against A teams and associates does no impact in performing against test teams.

If Bashar doesn't make it, Pilot will be the captain... you know why? Because our selectors don't have the guts to make a move like making Shahriar the captain. It will never happen.

What we will do with four SLA bowlers, nowadays ODI international batsmen play aggresive but responsible cricket where they study deliveries way before hand. Bowling with four same SLA will make that tast more easier. May be our SLA bowlers can stop them for four overs but rest 35 overs, they would know how to judge the bowler. I wish selectors have brains!!

mehrab jnr may be opening with shahriar nafees. JO will probably be out of luck this time. good on the selectors.
Quote:
"We believe that he is a very good player for the longer-version game but that doesn't mean he is not good enough for the shorter-version," Faruque continued. "We have lot of hard-hitting batsmen in the squad but we felt that we need a player like Mehrab who has the ability to play the anchor role in the top-order."
Faruque said that getting the right pair in the opening slot would solve many of the side's problems. Though Javed Omar, the out-of-form opener, has been included in the squad, it is likely that that the selectors are looking to replace him with fresher faces. Faruque simply said that they are looking for a proper opening combination before the World Cup.
