mods then please add shadat to the confirm list. I wish we hadd more options then people can vote for their POCHONDO and we could see who r the top 15 vote getter but as we have only 15 options i had to put some in one which actualy beats the purpose.

Whoever has been following domestic league and other tournaments, do you know what's going on with Nafis Iqbal? Is there any possibility of him returning to the BD national team ever? He played a few matches, and then simply vanished. Very unfortunate.

My best 11 is

1. Shahriar Nafees
2. Tamin Iqbal
3. Mushfiqur Rahim
4. Aftab Ahmed
5. Saqib ul Hasan
6. Habibul Bashar
7. Md. Ashraful
8. Md. Rafique
9. Mashrafee Mortaza
10. Abdur Razzak
11. Shahdat Hossain

12. Rajin Saleh
13. Mohamad Sharif
14. Tapash Baiysha
15. Tushar Imran

Habibul should use Aftab in bowling and then we don't need 3rd pacer and can keep both Rafiq & Razzak in our best 11.

Aftab could bowl few overs as the wickets could help medium pacers.

My someone else is Javed Omar Belim Golla. Aminul Islam Bulbul thinks so, too - according to ntv news tonight. He thinks both Rajin and Javed should be considered.

However, I didn't notice that Shahadat's name is missing there in the list.

I opted for both Pilot and Mushfique. Mushfique can come in as a specialist batsman. However, like the most, I also think that number 5 or 6 is the right position for Mushfique.

Akram Khan thinks that his bhatija Tamim should open with Shahriar Nafees.

Both of them think Pilot should be included.

Bulbul's opinion is to include experienced players (as said earlier - Rajin-Golla; Golla should open with Shahriar Nafees), whereas Akram's opinion is that our current side has enough experience - like Aftab, Ashraful, Mashrafee, Bashar - they all have loads of experience behind them right now. Akram's words were that the 2003 World Cup had youngsters with least experienced players, he also believes that inclusion of his bhatija will let the later order batsman to play with less pressure.

HB, from now on, you and I are the unofficial BD selectors . Man for man, this is my exact squad. Although, I'll have Tamim openning with SN. I know he is raw but if he and Aftab clicks then we will be able to post decent total (250+) every game and chase well. Of course, all other bats have to play right out of their skins too! If they (Tamim and Aftab) get out cheaply then we have to revise our game-plan and play accordingly.

Six proper batsmen, five proper bowlers (three pacers, two spinners). No bits and bobs players. In Saqib, we have an exceptional young all-rounder. Mash and Rafiq combined makes a decent one and half all-rounders . The real dillemas: how can one leave out Ashraful from playing XI, do we just play either Razzak or Rafiq??

Am I not glad that I'm not a selector?!:p

PS: If batsmen and bowlers play according to their potential and show responsibility this BD team is capable of defeating India or Srilanka.

Default first focus on combination

the first thing to decide is what combination will the playing eleven have. i mean how many batsman and bowler. do we go out with:
  • 6 bats, 4 bowl, and the wk
  • 5 bats, 5 bowl, and the wk
  • 5 bats, 5 bowl and the wkb
I think if we look at the most successful sides today, they try to go in with 5 genuine bowlers (5th one being an all-rounder). and in the westindies pitches, which have are no more bowler friendly, against batting sides like srilanka and india we will need 5 bowlers. the other thing bowling combination, currently ignoring the zim series it looks a lot like we have mash and shahadat with the new ball and then its spin all the way. lets see the other combinations:
  • 2 pacers and 3 spinners
  • 3 pacers and 2 spinners
its almost irrelevant against bermuda, but against ind and sri to play three spinners that even all of the same type. it may almost be sucidal. small grounds and batting freindly picthes, 350 would be on the cards. thus we would be better of with 3 pacers and 2 spinners. fe things to think about:
  • giving the new ball to shahdat. his natural length is short of a lenght with very little swing. jayasuria/tharanga and weather it be uthappa/sehwag/ganguly. it will be easy picking. his world cup debut may just become the same as his test match debut. he is better of first change.
  • russel may be millitary meduim in pace but he does to things. bowls accurately and swings it. along with mash he can make full use of the new ball. he will not be that effective in the slogg overs but very effective in the powerplays thus he may just bowl his 10 in a row. why was he dropped in the first case i donno.
  • currently we have razzaq/rafique/sakib as the spin trio. if we play three seamers one of them have to go. sakib is the all rounder and rafique with the experience and his crucially his hitting/slogging in the final overs is an absolute neccessity. whose left razzaq. he is the final over specialist but we've got to remember success against zim and ken doesn't guarantee suceess against sri and ind. however in case conditions need him, why not.
so what do we have after the analysis:
  • mash, russel, shahadat, rafique and sakib (aftab and mehrab just for fill-ins)
  • razzaq and tapash for back up.
  • which means in the fifteen man squad i am looking 4 pacer and 2 spinners and an allrounder (spinner).
lets now come to the batting. who are the 5 best bats.
  • nafees, aftab, habib, ash, and sakib.
now sakib is the allrounder. so, as it's now between mehrab/tamim/rajin.
  • mehrab hasn't really impressed with bat but he can bowl usefull left arm orthodox.
  • tamim hasn't been given much chances but from what we know is destructive.
  • rajin is proven and from the premier league can be said as inform and also experienced.
in nafees, sakib and habib we have got anchormans. but only one destructive player. rajin is the same as the three and frankly as far as tried and tested is concerned i don't see much difference between tamim and mehrab. i think it is the selecters fault of not testing tamim before. with tamim's aggressive nature and something which if works will give the sid a huge adv. i go for tamim. and although we have rafique and mash down the order both are sloogers and there is no two thought we have struggled in the lower order. thus i would have tamim opening and aftab at seven (he won us games against ind, aus and sri at that number).

nafees
tamim
slot open
sakib
bashar
ash
aftab
rafiqe
mash
russel
shah

the only slot left is the number three slot and the wicket keeper slot. now it may be emotionally tough but for a number three slot i would prefer mushfiq over mashud.
wicket keeper single handedly does not win you matches but number three position is pivotal. thus over mashud the nod will go to mushfiq. so now here is my playing eleven and alon with that my World cup squad:

Playing eleven:

nafees
tamim
mushfiq
sakib
habib
ash
aftab
rafique
mash
russel
shah

Reserves:

rajin
razzaq
tapash
mashud

15 member squad:

Openers:

nafees, tamim, rajin

Middle order:

sakib, habib, ash, aftab

Wicket keepers:

mushfiq, mashud

pacers:

mashrafee, russel, shahadat, tapash

spinners:

rafique and razzaq

very good analysis.. even though I would like to take another allrounder in place of pilot I think selectors will select this team...

Very good analysis safaat, completely agreed. My only question would be about Mushfiq, but I guess he has proven his worth in the last ZIM series.

good analysis by Safaat...I would replace Pilot in the reserve with TI. TI can bat, bowl and keep if needed!

Picking the 15th Player was hard ! My Squad does not include Mehrab Jr I have seen enough to see he just is not quality enough at ODI lets be honest his had a long run in - May be good enough at Test but not ODI. So therefore had no choice but to choose Tamim. I was forced to choose Rajin. I think we are so desperate for good top order batters that we will treat Mushfiq as a batter really
