Default Sheikh Mujib Movie

For all the AWAMI supporters (no, just especially them) on this board:

"A British film producer is going to finance a movie based on the life of Sheikh Mujibur Rahman.

This is supposed to be a very high profile movie for world wide audience, more in the line of the movie about Gandhi.

Guess who is going to play the role of Sheikh Mujib???

AMITABH BACHCHAN !!!!!!!!!!!

Yes it is going to be Amitabh Bachchan. He has agreed to the role, but his work schedule is all packed for the next five years. Still he has agreed to accomodate time much sooner. He has also offered to take only about half the money of the average that he usually charges for his Hindi films.

In the meantime Amitabh has asked the script writer to send him audio/video of Sheikh Mujib. Amitabh wants to do his own homework and study Sheikh Mujib's body language.

If all the parties agree, a formal announcement will be made soon."

Please put the link to the source, thanks.

I think an educational and faithful movie of the complete history of the birth of Bangladesh would have been a better service than recreating the life of a lone person, who was as much fruitful an opposition leader as futile a Government leader, to portray in a single sentence.

I will try to get a formal source. But I was informed of this from a relative who keeps very good tabs on Hindi cinemas & Bollywood.

I would be more eager to see high class documentaries on Mujib and Zia. Stuff on the likes of Sarwarddi (sp?), The Tiger....moulded together would only make it more fine.

I heard something like this several years ago. And the lead role was supposed to be an American. Can't remember who. And it was supposed to be financed by George Harrison. Did not put much stock in it at that time and did the right thing.

It tuned out to be a lot of hot air.

Man, Amitabh Bachhan looks nothing like Mujib. Wonder what he will look like in that movie.

Also, I had a search on the web and couldn't find any such films being discussed anywhere other than this thread.

"Abdul Gaffar Choudhury in Dhaka" this is quite a big news for me. I thought that he will never go back to BD.

Hearing about Abdul Gaffar Choudhury in the following link I thought some are quite pissed off with him. I love the song ("Amar Bhaier Rokte Rangano") very much. First I thought if this would be rude to post the link here as this contains some sensitive words and some might find it obnoxious.

Mods pls feel free to delete this if this is not appropriate to the forum culture.

mujib's life can be seen in two stages, his life as a vibrant and idealistic politician before 1971 and his struggle to cope with the enormity of responsibility, and promises made after 1973. we can only speculate what the film would be focusing on. a biopic need not focus on the entirely of one's life.

these films are eventually a homange to the character depited by the filmmaker. a moral bias is achieved at inset and a particular perspective is focused on. i dare say, the filmmaker is too concerned about the educational value of such projects.

the casting of amitav would certainly guarantee it much audience in the indian subcontinent and within the non-resident communities outside of the subcontinent. i would like to have seen a lesser known actor who would still have a strong south asian english accent, but not strong enough to be misunderstood. ben kingsley did do a superb portrayal of ghandi, but then again, that film was made by david lean, the master of the epic.

Hmmm...Aishwariya will be Hasina. And Karina Kapoor will play the role for Khaleda. That means, Aftab will play the role for Ziaur Rahman.

Nice...it's a superhit.

I remember him speaking Bangla in one of his movies... it was funny but really poor as well... I hope they train him well and don't resort to just doing it in Hindi or the dubbing crap.

EDIT: Doh... just read it will be made in English and then dubbed into other languages. That's a shame... not a huge fan of dubbing.

A good move indeed.
Would have even better if we,Bangladeshis, could have made one already. But our coverage is nowhere near to Bollywood films.

But one thing that concerns me is the scription of the story.
Is that movie made from an Indians perspective or from a Bangladeshi?
How would they depict the war?
Are they gonna glorify india's role a bit too much and led the world to believe that Bangladesh was born ONLY because of india's help?
Not that im ever going to deny india's contribution to our independence, but as a Bangladeshi, i believe there is more to that story.

Abdul Gaffar is a famous journalist in Bangladesh and i hope he makes sure the true story is depicted rathan than a customised one.

Would be eagerly waiting to see a movie about one of the greatest son Bangalis have ever had.

I hope that it is balanced and depicts the post-independence carnage and famine that our country had to go through that led to his assassination. It would be a crying shame if it portrays a one sided picture of the events that led to his assassination.

(I'm assuming the film will end with his assassination. If not It'd be great if it just shows till the point we gained victory and independence).

So we might find the movie would glorify Indian's contribution forgetting how our Bicchus created the environment for Pak Army to surrender within 10 days of formal war; secondly if it goes till 15th Aug 1975, we might find that there was no carnage or famine. Thus becoming Awami Propoganda tool driving more floating voters from AL

Great News! Any other information like release dates? I hope the film is actually shot in Bangladesh and has some Bangladeshi actors doing the supporting roles, I really wish it wont be a complete Bollywood washout, like the whole film being shot in a Mumbai studio with Indian actors and please NO SONGS!!!

Folks this is just a movie not a documentary film....like any other movies based on historical character ... ...they take some character...... make them hero or villian.... make it over dramatic....create some controversy.... add some spice ... add events that may or may not be based on true events.... the goal is to make money ... not necessarily potray the true pitcure of a balanced view.

If I am the movie maker, I would give both sides something to cheer about and something to complain and therefore create enough buzz to attracks viewers from all ends... and that includes..... Mujib Fans.... anti-Mujib fans.... Indian Fans....Razakar Fans.... Pakistani Fans..... and Western Fans.....

No matter how hard you try you cannot escape controversy in such projects. Every person has their own view front on the history and the core belief does not modify whatever the truth is. So a hardline AL, moderate AL, anti-AL, a liberal BNP, pro-jamaat BNP, a Bikolpo DHara supporter etc. each will possess their own say on it.
It highly depends on the screen writer, which side he is on..
You can actually make fifty different version of it and even will not satisfy a single person.
So would I miss this movie by any chance? No way!

Sorry to crash the party guys, but Amitabh Bachchan and IndiaFM, the premier bollywood website has confirmed that all this is absolute rubbish. ( I was suspicious from the start, how can someone sign the whole Bachchan family in a film that has a budget of Rs. 10 crore, this is BOLLYWOOD remember!). Bachchan was surprised to hear all this and said he has not had any contact from anyone regarding the matter other than journalists inquiring about it(actually this is not the first time that producers have prematurely announced Bachchan to star in their films). This is not the first time that we have had misleading news from Bangladeshi papers, remember Ash and Rafique playing in IPL? Rafique was conned by a guy who pretended to be SRK and now Mr. Chowdhury is conned by a fake Bachchan...lol, Anyway heres the source: http://www.indiafm.com/news/2008/05/03/11325/index.html
