"Bangladesh ready for super eight challenge" - Bashar
29 March 2007
Bangladesh captain Habibul Bashar trashed negative talks about Bangladesh's qualification in the world cup super eight and want to prove their worth with some victories.
Bashar was upbeat ahead of the first super eight encounter against current champion Australia. Bangladesh won their world cup opener against India and Bangladesh captain wants a repeat performance in their super eight opener.

I say we have a very good shot at making the semis. Laugh if u want...but i think we are the favorites against Widies, Ireland and NZ (!)...and we need to steal one game from either Aus or England...the only team i don't think we match up well against is South Africa...same goes about SL...glad we don't have to play them in this stage.

Bashar should set the field very offencive to creat pressure as well as surprise against the Aussies to clinch a victory.

I think this is one of the most significant problem with BD team... Hablu is not aggressive enough. When the bowlers are bowling well and the opposition have lost a couple of wickets, he does not set attacking field. We need to seize the initiative when the opposition is down. I think Hablu will never be more aggressive, thinks will change when the next generation takes over.

Agree with cricket_pagol and kalpurush. I would love to see Razzaq, Rafiq and Saqib getting a few overs of supper-attacking field, new batman surrounded with at least 5 very close fielders. This should make the game very interesting. However, mature and good a batsman you are, it is really difficult to digest this kind of fielding right down your throat.

| have a feeling that If Bangladesh can win with India who plays spin well then why not win with Aus who always says Indians are good with Spin. I know it is tough but be agreesive and win.

Players should remember they won NZ and Ind in a row and they have capability to win again

Sorry, could not follow the logic. I think you are trying to say that our spinners must be quite capable of upsetting the aussies. I hope so, but remember it happens only if they make mistakes, and lots of them. So, to be fair both seamers and spinners have to bowl well for us to have any chance in this game. More importantly we have to try to dominate the game, otherwise it will be just another game that Australia will win convincingly.
