The Dead Play Cricket
Folks,
I would be really greatful if you write in your comments on my column on the main page. As you can all imagine, it took quite a bit of research to pick an all-time dead XI, and especially one in which everyone had to have died in the last 19 years. It would be nice to get some comments on who I missed out or what would be a better team. The main problem I faced was, a lot of great players are not dead yet!!

Nice, thorough work, Sham. You have hardly missed out any big names.
My only difference of opinion is in sending Compton to open as he was more of a middle order batsman.

Knew that was coming!
Yes Tintin, you are absolutely right. Compton used to bat at 4. Actually, when I was thinking of openers, I was also looking at the other batsmen, and since Compton's number 4 was obviously going to go to the Don, I was thinking of how to accomodate Compton as well. So I cheated and made Compton into an opener to avoid choosing between the others. Two birds with one stone you can say. And then I took it on from there.
But now that I think about it, with the lineup in front of me, I should have opened with Fredericks and kept Compton in the middle order in place of May or Hassett.

Brilliant Piece!
Although I do not know any of the players mentioned except Bradman, the article wasn't boring at all. You really do have some skills in writing (sure you not a writer?).
Jaihok, I loved the last paragraph! that was hillarious. Is that the guy who got killed by Opee? HAHA too funny! But death is a serious mattter. lol
This is a great informative piece for me too..

Yeah Orphy
Opee unfortunately ended up killing Lamba. I know death is a serious matter, but I couldn't help putting that in.
ps. You must have atleast heard of Marshall man!

Sham, great touches of dark-humor.... Hashbo na Kandbo??
Any way, I have a suggestion for the title. It should be 'Heaven Eleven' .

Or at least Hollioake
I knew 90% of the players mentioned. Turns out my dad used to go to Tallon's corner store
Anyone on the piece, brilliant work!! Loved it....wondering if that really was a dream and if you actually wrote it....hope you take my doubt as a complement

Tallon had a corner shop?
That was no dream guys, it really happened! Heaven's quite cool, worth aspiring for.

Great article Sham! Did you consider Hanse Cronje? (I know I know.. but surely he couldn't match fix up there? :duh: ) But on second thoughts his averages are no where near the likes of the people whom you included in your under 19 team

I considered Cronje
for my last para joke. You are right, he is not in the same class as a player, but I could have made something up about him at the end. However, Lamba waiting by the gate to beat up Opee as he comes in won over Cronje!

Good article sham.
Does anyone remember a classic article that appeared in Cricinfo few years back when Sir Don died. It had a similar theme and was very well written.
(I forgot the title of the piece though)
