Bottom hand batting? Id say he used very little bottom hand in most of his shots. Thats what the half-squash ball in his glove was for. It was obviously effective...

I have never seen a wicket keepter bat like that..... and this is just one of the many times he has done that.
Infact, I have never seen a batsman bat like that....... Richards? Anwar? Lara? Tendulkar? all these 4 had atleast a innings close to 200 in a one day match. But compare them with Gilchrist at full throttle? I guess, Gilchrist is probably the best ever striker in one day cricket. Even yesterday, Ponting, Hayden, Jayasuriya all were good but this guy is just a level above the rest, he is just "Amazing".

Andy Flower was pretty bloody good as a wicketkeeper batsman. He wasn't as explosive as Gilly though, but probably more consistent. Gilly is all about shock and awe while Flower could build an innings Kallizzzz style.
That said, when King Viv got going, he was unbelievable. I would put him just ahead of Gilly in terms of overall destructiveness.

Gilchrist is the best wicketkeeper batsman ever to play the game. Period. This is not because of the WC only. I had this opinion ever since I saw Gilchrist make his debut in test cricket. This guy is without a doubt the best ever WK/Batsman to play the game. Even as a batsman only he would be up there with the top few. His statistics speak for himself and the ease with which he makes his runs shows the kind of natural ability that he possesses.

Hey do you think he was also wearing that illegal squash ball during this match.
http://content-usa.cricinfo.com/bdes...ry/245113.html
As ICC is willing to look into this matter do you think they are going to probe all the matches that has been played with maximum contribution of Gilchrist to win for Australia. ICC's response as same as the world cup is too slow...well he is an aussie not a sub-continental player.

yes, I have read it somewhere. It actually gives extra comfort in gripping the bat, though I dont know whether it is illegal or not.

the rules dont say you can have something in your glove, but they dont say you cant either.
my question is if i put a squash ball in my glove does that suddenly mean ill be able to score a century off sri lanka? ... lol
the whole point is mooted.
they will probably make a decision about future matches or possibly even change the glove design to incorporate something similar to improve batsmens grip on the bat.

i wonder what icc will decide when lankans are going to appeal in the coming months against it. Obviously there was no law when Gilchrist used it but in future if no laws come against it, we may see some new designer gloves with squash ball attached to it!

Some bloke's written an open letter to the ICC requesting that OZ be disqualified and the WC be awarded to Sri Lanka. His reason is that the squash ball apparently imparted a spring like effect, which generated energy, which was then somehow transferred from Gilly's gloves onto the bat, which then transferred it onto the ball, which allowed it to be "catapulted with catastrophic consequences" (or something like that).
Not sure what Isaac Newton would have thought of this...
Quote:
The characteristic of the squash ball indicates that the ball is made of vulcanised rubber with additions of polymers and synthetic material to achieve a degree of fairly low resilience. The lower the resilience of the object the higher the proportion of energy used in deforming it. Thus when a batsmen hits the cricket ball, the air inside the squash ball gets pressurised or deformed, releasing a spring load of energy, that is transferred directly to the bat, resulting in a catapulting effect on the cricket ball, as evidenced by the spectators, watching Gilchrist’s batting spell bound.

If you read the whole article, it's pretty funny. It must be a windup - there's no way the bloke could be serious. -

Yeah miss players like Andy, Grant, Allister, Heath, Balignaut. Would been good for cricket had they stuck around.

I would have been happier if gilly did not use the squash ball in his gloves... it kinda took the shine of his glorious innings.
I hope rules are straightened in the future.
