Default T20 WC Grades

I know AF going to open a thread like this soon. Mods, when he opens it, please merge them

Jokes aside, here is what I think the grades are:

Mohammad Ashraful: His one innings took us to the 2nd round. Bowling was not too good, but I liked his captaincy much better than Bashar. So, I'll give him 6/10

Abdul Razzak: He did his job pretty well. And given that in T20 spinners never gets a ball older than 20 overs, his job is also very hard. I'll give him a 8/10

Alok Kapali:
Did nothing compared to his domestic performance. A total failure 0/10

Junaid Siddique:
One chance, one half century. Over 50% of team score in the match. What else do yo uwant 10/10

Mushfiqur Rahim:
Batting as well as keeping need improvement. But at times he did exceptionally well in keeping. Need time to improve. 4/10

Nazimuddin:
So much promise before the game, nothing to be seen in real matches. A total failure 0/10

Syed Rassel:
He is improving in every tournament. He might lack the charm, but he sure gets the job done. 9/10

Mashrafee Mortaza:
What are you doing brother? You can do better than this. Batting forgotten, bowling almost forgotten. 3/10

Aftab Ahmed:
One good innings, then too much shot ruins it for him every time. Need to grow up. 4/10

Forhad Reza: No batting good, no bowling good. What's your role in team bro? 2/10

Mahmudullah Ryad:
Bowling was OK, but batting could have been better. 5/10

Nadif Choudhury:
15 runs in 2 matches is not enough. 1/10

Shakibul Hasan:
Bowling was OK, but batting need improvement. 5/10

Tamim Iqbal: what the [last 3 letter of your last name] you are doing? An utter failure 0/10

Team score 57 out of 140, tells a lot about the performance of the team.

The reason I did not give Aftab more is that he could do much better only if he would use a bit of common sense. He has everything he needs to be the best T20 player of the World (I mean it). But like most BD player, he was not using sense. Also, he missed catch.

Few comments from my end...

1) Over all Aftab's performance was not bad at-all compared to other BD batsmans. He is the only one who peformed consistently with his bat. And stats shows that.

2) With just one innings, Ash is 3rd in the batting list. That tells us a lot about the pathetic performnace of our rest of the batsman.

3) Nadif kind of failed to take the opportuinity with lethergic fielding and pretty bad bating performce. He couldn't even beat Alok or farhad (in batting) who he replaced. Same with Mahmudullah with the batting. However he (Mahmudullah) justified more than enough with his bowling only. Only good thing is Nadif had a good SR than Alok or Farhad.

4) All three spinners topped Rasel, who himself did a pretty good job. That tells a lot about the performance of our three spinners Razzak, Mahmudullah and Sakib. Good job all of them!!!!

5) Even though not spectacular, Sakib is slowly positioning himself as an allrounder. His batting need to be improved though, but I guess it will happen over time.

6) Farhad, Alok is total failure as a bowler. To be fair, Alok just bowled 2 overs and Farhad 3 overs, so they might be better than what the stat shows.

7) Ashraful and Mashrafee is also kind of failure as a bowler. Ash should Restrict his bolwing to mimimum and let the more successful and established blower do the job. What can I say about MAshrafee. He pretty much failed as bowler as well as a slogging batsman in this tournament.

Guys, once again ....

Look at my 'Favorite Player'.

If aftab was just a bit careful, he would have win us positions in Semis. That in my view a big minus. He did not live up to my expectation and that is the main reason he got only 4. Since that is my numbers, you know.

junaid was dropped three times... i would give him a B a the highest.

my grades:

ash: C- (needs to be more than just a "1 match per tourney wonder"
aftab: B (much more consistent than ash, yet still failed to live up to talent)
tamim: F--
nazim: F (what happened???)
alok: D (not enough chances so he escapes the F)
sakib: C (batting was D, bowling was B, average is C)
junaed: B (brilliant lone innings, but was dropped thrice)
mushy: C (batting was D but was too low down the order, keeping was OK)
riyad: B (i don't consider him a batsmen, bowling was pretty good)
rasel: B+ (i think people started him out of spite at the end)
razzak: A (can't really get any better)
mash: D (he is NOT a T20 bowler - bring rajib next time, idiot selectors!)
nadif: incomplete

So far I remember you favorite player was Rafiq. Anyway, you can't judge on your expectation. You should judge the performance in the field. In any scale Aftab should have better grading than Ashrafool.

Not only Ashraful, Aftab also played a vital role to be in the SUPER EIGHT ( His not out 60 plus guided us to beat WI). If Aftab left early against WI, BD team members would have been watching tweny20 from home!!! So, Aftab deserves 8 out of 10.

Not fair to Aftab. He got a good batting GPA. Nazimuddin could not shine may be that's the door for him to A side.

The thing is, you have to consider the seniority of each of the players and how much they fulfilled their responsibility. In that aspect, aftab promised so much but didnt perform as well as he should have, considering that he's our best batsman after ashraful.

My Rankings:

Ashraful: 5/10

Aftab: 6/10

Mushy: 4/10

Abdur Razzak: 8/10

Alok Kapali: 1/10

Junaid: 10/10

Nazim: 1/10

Syed: 9/10

Mashrafee: 2/10

Forhad Reza: 2/10

Ryad: 7/10

Sakib: 6/10

Tamim: 3/10

Nadif Chowdhury (its a W, not U, I think): 3/10 (But I still insist he should be stuck with, he does have great potential, and maybe, hopefully, it was just nerves.)

I am giving my grades in two categories

1. Tournament achievements.

2. Overall expectations

1. Tournament achievement

Ashraful - B (single innings propelled us to second round and that's our only success, captaincy was more than OK except the pro-active bowling)

Aftab - A (aptly supported Ashraful in the match against WI and scored run throughout the tournament)

Sakib - B (batting looks shadow of old Shakib, but he produced some good bowling spells under pressure and extracted plenty to turn from unfriendly surfaces)

Tamim - F (A complete failure)

Nazim - F (A complete failure)

Mashrafe - D (Looked completely out of depth.)

Mushfiq - B (despite couple of drop chances overall keeping standard was very high, currently holds the record of most career dismissals in T20 cricket, batting was somewhat disappointing)

Razzak - A (He was one of the best bowler of the tournament, bowled exceptionally well especially when we were defending small totals)

Rasel - A (Same as Razzak)

Farhad Reza - D (Probably he tried his level best but international cricket requires more skill in both batting and bowling)

Nadif Chowdhury - F (sloppy fielding and did almost nothing with the bat)

Mahmudullah - B (Bowled exceptionally well against Sri Lanka and Pakistan. There was no encouraging sign in batting in his limited opportunities).

Junaed Siddique - A (It was a crime to keep him out of playing XI until it was too late. It was a near perfect innings from the debutant).

Alok Kapali - F (A complete failure).

2. Overall expectations

Ashraful - C
Mashrafe - F
Razzak - A
Aftab - B
Kapali - F
Farhad - F
Junaid - A
Mahmudullah - B
Mushfiq - B
Nadif - F
Nazimuddin - F
Shakib - C
Rasel - A
Tamim - F

Mohammad Ashraful: He continues with his once in a blue moon performances. I doubt he will ever gain consistency. Deducting 2 points for insisting on bowling himself. 4/10

Abdul Razzak: He was one of the best spinners in the whole tournament. 8/10

Alok Kapali: This guy defines "total flop" ... if negative scoring is allowed, -10/10... otherwise 0/10

Junaid Siddique: He made the most of the opportunity presented to him... but he had some good luck as well... 9/10

Mushfiqur Rahim: While he produced one or two remarkable dismissals, a lot of slip-ups while keeping, and not the kind of batting needed in T20. 5/10

Nazimuddin: So much was expected, so little was delivered. 0/10

Syed Rassel: He did quite well most of the time. Need to improve more. He is always trying at least. 8/10

Mashrafee Mortaza: He is seriously out of form... we need to do something about it immediately or we are wasting him every match. 2/10

Aftab Ahmed: He was semi-consistent. He does bat as needed in T20. 7/10

Forhad Reza: He is only one level above Kapali... and one level above a "total flop" is... 1/10

Mahmudullah Ryad: He had his moments, but nothing great overall. 6/10

Nadif Choudhury: Flop. 0/10

Shakibul Hasan: You know, of all the newcomers this year, I expected this guy to improve quickly and get better every match. Not happening. 4/10

Tamim Iqbal: Yet another once in a blue moon performer. Unfortunately, no blue moon at all for him this tournament. And he looked comical most of the time he batted... like a tail-ender counting on "jhore bok". Flop. 0/10

Overall: 64/140

Team selection: 1/10 (Why persist with Kapali? I really have no idea! Why we played Tamim instead of Junaed... no idea there either!)

Overall batting: We seem to be doing one extreme (hit out or get out) or the other (save wickets, attempt acceleration later). Need to find something in the middle. 3/10

Overall bowling: Mash has been quite a disappointment. Without Rasel, Razzak, we would have probably failed miserably. But I think we did quite well overall considering these were T20 matches. 7/10

Overall fielding: I don't think our team was alone in the tournament with loads of fumbles and buckets of dropped catches. T20 adds quite a bit of pressure on fielders. 6/10

Shaun Williams: I'm not sure if the players listen to him or Ashraful?
