Bangladesh enters into the new era, first captain from Test generation
With the appointment of Mohammad Ashraful as Bangladesh captain, Bangladesh cricket has entered into a new era. This is the first time a cricketer who made his debut in Test playing Bangladesh team is awarded captaincy.
Ashraful made his debut in April 11, 2001 in Bullawayo. Mashrafe made is debut in November 2001 in Chittagong against the same opposition.
Ashraful is 5th Captain of Bangladesh Test team, all previous 4 captains played ICC Trophy for Bangladesh.
Old generations transformed Bangladesh from associate country's level to Test playing level. Kudos to them for their achievement, now it's time to look forward.
I hope the new generation will bring new thinking in the team and Test generations will take Bangladesh within the leading 5 teams of world cricket.
Hat's off to the younger generations.

Is it safe for me to say that the term "Respectable Defeat" will be exterminated? I know we'll have our fair share of Huge defeats but I hope with Ashraful and Masri leading us we won't concede defeat if a team scores 300. I'm pretty sure everyone will a see a different vibe coming from us because of the new leaders.

Rajin never captained Bangladesh in Test. he was a makeshift captain in ICCT 2004 due to injury of Bashar.

Perfect title- it reflects the whole attitude of the team pretty well. Hope gone are those days when we were happy to put up a good fight and find solace in losing.

I saw the joy of Indians when they got Ashraful out; he still poses a threat until he is out. A little more patience while batting will make him a better captain than Bashar

Things are gonna get tougher. We are at the stage of BD's cricket where we should be drawing more test matches just to keep up with the standard. Also, expect less shock wins as opponents will have sized us up.

Alhamdullilah, I am very much young enough to witness this era and even insha'Allah the brighter generations to come, but it all depends on Almighty Allah, whether I am fortunate enough to see my country's development in all aspects before my death.

I actualy think captaincy will enhance his performance. He seems to perform better under pressure and captaincy brings in its own share of weight.

The new captain at his old place, Ashraful went to meet Wahidul Gani at Pallima Sangshad, Khilgaon.

I disagree with my fellow Tiger fans that this is a new era. I think we will continue to struggle and be beaten black in blue in test matches.
Ashraful is hardly a useful test player, let alone captain. Our real new era will start after all the lessons have been learnt during Ashraful's tenure. Then our next captain will be more skillful.
Before we start celebrating, I should warn my Bangla brothers not to expect anything but DEFEAT. In ODI it may be a different story since it is a hit and miss game, and we might sneak out a few wins against the top teams.
