Default What is the WEIRDEST food you've eaten?

Just like the title says ... what is the most bizarre food that you've eaten?

I'll start: Balut. God, I couldn't stand it.

OK, So i was a little inspired by the Horse Milk thread by P. Warner

Hard to choose between them:

Ostrich egg omelette
Kangaroo carpaccio
Crocodile jerky

Two items I saw but couldn't bring myself to sample:

It was called camel's milk yogurt and presumably it had a live replicating culture, because it was quivering in its bowl.

At a Korean seafood place in the SF Bay Area, they once served freshly cut octopus tentacles that were still moving.

Dried, deep-fried insects seasoned with chili and lime in Oaxaca, Mexico. Unique, crunchy taste.

Probably squid, or mussels.

Not very weird I know. I love seafood, but I haven't really tried any weird meat or eggs yet.

AS long as you didnt drink the water in Mexico.

Seriously, here in the US, they make drinking water in a foreign country a BIG deal. It annoys me.

I never tired such exotic food like you did, but mine's quite simple. Someone we know made a pineapple khir...which turned the whole dish into GREEN. Somehow, the person who made it was quite excited about it. I didn't have the courage to taste it. Coz I'm not rude enough to throw up in front of her.

Doesn't matter, does it? The question is about weird food, it's not about weird halal food!

The experts can answer this, but I seem to remember it being allowed in conditions of war or starvation.

I also think pig/alcohol/any other strictly forbidden food is permissible to be consumed when facing starvation, as protecting the gift of Life is one of the most important duties of a Muslim.

Speaking of which, are there any Sushi/Sashimi places in Dhaka now?

And does anyone have a good recipe for smoked hilsa (ilish)? The Dhaka Club used to prepare an excellent example of this dish.

i forgot the name of the food but the weirdess food i had in vietnam..
it's like a chicken soup with boiled egg...but the egg has taken out from the nest just a day b4 it was hatched. So while eating you would see a very small boiled chicken coming from the egg with a soft feather.....u just eat the whole thing. Vietnamies sayz it is very good for knee and thats the reason why they have the strongest knee. I just had it once in Hanoi and i kind of felt pity for the tiny chicken.

and there was another food i have seen there. I forgot the name as well. The whole bird nest is a food. Birds make those nest with hay and with their salive which is used as a glue to stick those hay. i didn't dare eating that though.

The tap water in Mexico is no worse than the WASA variety in Dhaka, I drink from niether tap. Carry an industrial size bottle of Pepto Bismal if you have to, but the food in Mexico, especially Oaxaca, is out of this world.

I had the deep fried "gaping fish" in Hue, Vietnam. The telapia was deep-fried in a special batter mixed with the famous local lager, and served with the head still gasping for breath. I think you can get a similar dish in some of the Chinese back alleys in BKK also.
