Default Gold Cup Final & Copa America

I feel Bad for Canada as they were Robbed in the 93rd Minute with the phantom offsides call they were the best team in the event and would have been nice to see them win the event and go on and play in the Confederations Cup in 2009, Mexico hasn't scored a goal vs the U.S in U.S soil in really long time U.S.A will win and get the CC cup invition
Quote:
US and Mexico set marquis final

The USA had to suffer for their spot in the all-heavyweight final with archrivals Mexico by enduring a spirited brawl with an energetic Canadian outfit. In the end, two goals from Frankie Hejduk and Landon Donovan were enough to seal a 2-1 win, but the effects of the clash will linger as the Americans now go into the ultimate match without two crucial players. Mighty Mexico also had some sweating to do in their semi-final as little Guadeloupe battled bravely before eventually succumbing to a 1-0 loss, this thanks to a Pavel Pardo stunner midway through the second half.

Spirited Canucks stretch the States
After being pegged back in the early going by the searching play of Julian De Guzman and Dwayne De Rosario, the Americans looked to have bounced back to kill off the game thanks to two goals in five minutes late in the first half. Workhorse Frankie Hejduk proved an unlikely hero when he struck first with a brilliant hit from the edge of the box in 39 minutes and then Landon Donovan grabbed his third goal of the finals and his 33rd in an American jersey from the spot after Canadian keeper Pat Onstad hauled down Damarcus Beasley in the 44th minute
The second period proved another story entirely as the enterprising Canucks dug deep and fought hard. With a quarter-hour to go, substitute and former youth hero Iain Hume of Leicester City cut inside Carlos Bocanegra to fire home with his left foot from 18 yards out. And in the dying seconds of stoppage time it looked as if FC Copenhagen midfielder Atiba Hutchinson had claimed an equaliser, only for the strike to be ruled out by Mexican referee Benito Archundia.
After a battle of a semi, the USA will have to contest the final without goal-hero Hejduk (who picked up his second yellow of the knockout stages). Head coach Bob Bradley's son Michael will also be out of the ultimate match after cynically scything down De Guzman in the dying moments.

Guadeloupe push Mexico all the way
Mexico - prohibitive favourites up against Cinderella side Guadeloupe - predictably asked most of the early questions in the second semi-final from Soldier Field. But thanks to an impressive display of goalkeeping by FC Utrecht's Franck Grandel, the Caribbean islanders were able to make it to halftime with the scoreline tied at nil-all and with hopes still alive of pulling off the biggest in a string of recent upsets.
As the second period progressed and the predominantly pro-Mexican crowd began to grow more impatient with their heroes, it was captain and leader Pavel Pardo who finally broke the deadlock and little Guadeloupe's formidable spirit. In a fitting nod to the strength of the debutants' resistance, it took a 30-yard arrow to the top corner in minute 69 from the Stuttgart back to bulge Grandel's net and see the fancied Mexicans into Sunday's final.

The 2007 CONCACAF Gold Cup concludes on Sunday 24 June with the hosts and holders USA taking on four-time champions Mexico at Soldier Field in Chicago.

USA win Gold Cup 2007

FTUnited States [2 - 1] Mexico
44'[0 - 1]A. Guardado
61'[1 - 1]L. Donovan (pen.)
89'[2 - 1]Feilhaber

I just watched the last 15' and both teams were very good... not a surprise as both have been performing well in last editions of the world cup!

yeah, that was pathetic. canada does not have a lot to boast about in soccer (except for that one time they played in the world cup decades ago), and it would have been great had they made it to the confederations cup.

No reason to laugh bro. Brazil is fielding mostly 'local' players with pretty much ALL the big names busy playing the Europe. Mexico loses to USA regularly, shows how good they truly are.
I wanted to see a real tournament. Atleast the Argentinians have most of their main players. The 4-1 win over USA was just the start.

Brazil 0-2 Mexico

Brazil: Doni; Maicon (Daniel Alves), Alex, Juan and Gilberto; Gilberto Silva, Mineiro, Elano (Afonso) and Diego (Anderson); Robinho and Vágner Love. Coach: Dunga

Mexico: Guillermo Ochoa; Israel Castro (José Antonio Castro), Rafael Márquez, Jonny Magallón and Fausto Pinto; Fernando Arce, Jaime Correa, Gerardo Torrado and Ramón Morales (Jaime Lozano); Juan Carlos Cacho (Omar Bravo) and Nery Castillo. Coach: Hugo Sánchez

If countries like Peru, Paraguay, Uruguay, etc had the spectacular facilities that countries like USA have, they would be an awesome team. Many of their players are emerging for the rural level with little or no formal training, and they manage to do well in an international arena. With proper training, they will be making great strides.

Brazil played superbly with their reserves and defeated Chile 3-0.
Ecuador dominated most of the game but Mexico was better at finishing, Mexico won 2-1.

It'll be interesting to see how the US does tonight against Paraguay, 5-0 winners over Columbia in the first match. Argentina takes on Columbia in the other one (I think).

Argentina was superb. They need to worry about their defence a little bit. So far, the copa has produced a LOT of Goals, loving the results.

As for the US, I realized that I haven't figured out my Dish DVR yet. Apparantly, you have to hit record twice for it to work (even though a record sign was clearly showing next to the program I selected).

A Brazil V. Argentina final seems likely at this point. Los uruguasos blew it in the penalties after the remarkable comeback, not once but twice. Mis hermanos mexicanos may have something to say about that. Anyway, looking forward to a great final.

Brazil have always been uncomfortable playing Uruguay (ever since the WC in Brazil where needing a draw to advance, they lost 2-1). In an Argentina v. Brazil final, though, while I am a supporter of Brazil, my money would be on Argentina.

I only got to see the first half. Brazil has good finishing but their keeper kept them in the game with some impressive saves on the other end. The Uruguans really pressed and tested the Brazilian defense (which looked fragile at times).

Surprised to see MexicanTs in the semi's. More surprised by the way they got there after loosing to USA in the gold cup final. They were struggling against USA in that match. Got lucky in the qtr's when the Paraguay keeper was red carded in the 3rd minute. Anywho, Argentina has been the best so far. Tonight's match should be a firecracker if the MexicanTs can keep up.

Brazil all the way, Robinho maybe the real "new" Pele, as Messi is certainly the real "new" Maradona. It's too early to tell, but I think Messi, now that he has done a "mano de dios" of his own, will soon surpass Diego on the field. Diving more may help. Off the field, he and most other FIFA registered soccer players already have.
