Shaun Williams to remain in charge of Bangladesh for twenty20 World Cup.
1 August 2007
Bangladesh Cricket Board (BCB), still struggling to find out the successor of Dave Whatmore, have appointed Shaun Williams, BCB game development manager, as interim Bangladesh coach for the up-coming twenty20 World Cup to be held in South Africa.
Williams acted as the interim coach in the recently concluded Sri Lanka tour in which Bangladesh were whitewashed in both Test and ODI series.

Who is happy with the decision? I think he is a good man and a good technician with the skills of finding weaknesses and exploiting them, but what do you guys think? I mean its only for a while probably.

ei shob aager committee er fault.. shalara kono kaaj kortona.. koto mash shomoi chilo taader haate.. but tara ekta coach jhogar korte pareni.. tara india ke follow kortesilo.. je interim coach diye hoye jabe.. but amader moto team er jonne interim coach diye kono kaaj hobe na... eta shala ra bujhenai.. khali taka kheyese ar ghum diyese.. ei jonneii shob gulo motka hoye gese...
ei committe ekhon kaoke coach banaile o kaam hobe naa.. notun coach eto short time e kisui korte parbena.. amader haate shomoi ache around 1 month.. and ekta notun coach niyog korte aro shomoi laagbe atleast 2 wks.. time very short... so they had to go with SW. They didn't have another option..

Yes I agree ... the "wait and see" approach by the old committee created this crisis. How many months past when Dav let evely one known that he is not interetsted to extend his contact?
Based on the time left (or lack of it), the current committe was handicapped and made the only choice available. Atleast they didn't wasted time, but "good or bad" made a quick decision.
Lets hope, as a next step, they start lookong for the permanent coach without wasting futher time. This coach selection process is going on for too long.

Shaun didnt have any experience about coaching before his assignment in BD. He came to BD as game development manager. May be any local coach would be a better choice.

I appreciate their decision. At least they felt the urgency of selecting a coach. I salute them for not declaring the coach in the last moment.
They also kept the local coach and I believe that was a good decision.
I hope they find someone for a permanent solution keeping 2011 WC in mind.

Another burning issue that came up in the meeting was the appointment of a new national coach, but the committee decided to re-evaluate the whole process. "You know the last committee made a shortlist of three coaches, but we want to add more options. It looks impossible to appoint a coach before the Twenty20 World Championship, so we have some time to think about the issue," said Bobby

hm.. they are saying they will do it slowly as our next series is in december. So they will take time and would finish it before december.. very bad very bad very bad.. ager shob M*F* er karone eta hochche.. after the 20/20 wc we won't have a coach till november/december which is a long period of time.. players willl not be under any coach... no training no nothing... players will forget everything..

Hahahaha!!!
At the first news of Watmore leaving I had suggested we get a coach as soon as possible. I was informed that we shouldn't. The reason being in case of hurrying we might not have the right person. Now see what mess we are in.
Can't help but post a link of another thread.

And the off season passes without any coach or guidence.

this is a bad sign, a very bad sign.
doesnt matter if SW is the best coach in the world... the fact that BCB hasnt found a permenent coach after all this time is a definite cause for concern. especialyl given the fact that McInnes has told us he wants teh job.

This is indeed deeply worrisome. Shaun might be a good analyst but I don't necessarily feel he's the best coach for us. How do you oversee the unmitigated disaster that the SL tour constituted and not take any of the culpability? Yes our players failed to perform but I sensed a lack of confidence in the team from the onset and an inability adjust the "defend at all costs" strategy after it failed to work. Then there were the TI / SN sagas. I'm sorry but SW to me is not the answer. And if we don't appoint a coach soon then, as already pointed out, our preparations will suffer greatly and come our NZ trip the SL tour is going to look like the halcyon days of summer.

Let's wait and see if "Mr. Positive Spin" has learned anything about the need to tough love our players, the way Richy Mac did with obvious results.
