Unique words of your regional dialect
Recently we are having debates over dialect vs language, but it's true that we hardly understand some words frequently used in different regional dialects.
The purpose of this thread is to enlighten us about some unique words used in different regional dialects and enrich our Bangla vocabulary
I am from Madaripur, but I was brought up in different cities of Bangladesh and passed my last 15-16 years in Dhaka. Here's three words from greater Faridpur dialect and their meaning.
Words ---------------Meaning
1. Komfa ( কম্ফা) - Papaya ( পেঁপে)
2. Tobon ( তবন) - Shirt ( জামা)
3. Kurka ( কুরকা) - Hen ( মুরগী)
Who's next to share?

Damn, at work. Can't write Bangla. This will be my favorite thread for the next couple of months, for sure. For now, let me just tell you a saying: "gaaler oot gaal, fonder oot mejjan". That's what you'll have to hear when you're fat like me!

Yes they are from Sirajganj. Interestingly, in Sirajganj, রেজগি = খুচরা পয়সা. Make me think that it actually means something like 'smaller version'.

This is interesting because in Mumbai (Bombay), the local language is Marathi.
And "Kuthe" in marathi means "Where".
For Example:
Tumi Kuthe Jaanar = Where will you go?
Tumi Kuthe Hota = Where have you been?

Also "Boir", meaning "feet", "Reni" meaning "looking at", "Heti" meaning "her", "Hyata" meaning "him", "Imui" meaning "this way", "Himui" meaning "that way", "Kimui" meaning "where", "Ton" meaning "from", and my favorite "Hyatetik" meaning "pathetic" ...

No bro, but many in my family have married into people from there for generations. I also tour there a lot, a place very close to my heart.

adel, I am really impressed with your simplicity and honest intention to clear up the confusion which is a bit rare in these days.
Calling wife's brother "Shala" is just fine and some times show the affectionate part of the relationship between "Shala - Dulabhai".
Now calling someone else "shala" can result in furious response. By calling him shala, the person concerned is indirectly pointing that his sister is that person's wife or has some special relationship with that person (which is not the case here). This can be really humiliating and can result in fuming response.
