BanglaCricket Flood Drive (Donate Now)
BC Flood Drive
BanglaCricket has taken the initiative to collect donations for the flood victims of Bangladesh.
Please Donate:
Please donate to the best of your ability, every dollar counts. We will continue this drive for sometime.
We will keep you updated during this time on the total amount collected and how we will be distributing the funds to the flood victims.
Let us stand by our country during this time of need.
Update: Oct 29, 2007
We would like to inform everyone that the total amount US $2318.82 has been donated to Chief Adviser's relief fund on Oct. 29, 2007. Please see the attached pictures of this hand over ceremony. We would like to thank Honorable Chief Adviser Dr. Fakhruddin Ahmed for making time from his busy schedule to attend the hand over ceremony.
We would also like to thank BCB's Cricket Operations Committee Chairman Gazi Ashraf Hossain Lipu for attending this event.
We would like to thank all our members who have donated in this flood drive. It would not have been possible without your support.
Finally, thanks to our very own Ahmed bhai and Ammar for coordinating all this in Bangladesh.
Pictures:

1. The check and BC envelope.

2. Cheif Adviser receives donation check from BC representative Ahmed Bashir, along with Syed Ammar Karim (left back) and BCB's Gazi Ashraf Lipu (out of view, right back).
This officially concludes BaglaCricket Flood Drive.

Excellent initiative. Now let us make it a success. If you plan to help in this noble cause, don't procrastinate. Do it NOW.
Also remember, US$1 fetches ~65-70 taka!

One of the greatest if not the greatest move Banglacricket has ever taken. Let us think for a moment how lucky we are as individuals as we are far far away, safe and sound from that deadly flood that continues to devastate millions of lives, our own people's lives. We are also lucky enough to be able to donate a few of our own hard earned money for a noble cause. Imagine how many lives can be saved by the food and medicine our donated money would be used to buy.
There is no bigger help than help saving human lives. Please donate to save lives. You may never be thanked for the donation but the joy of saving lives will live forever with you. Thank you.
Dear admins, it would probably be a better idea if you guys can give an idea how the donated money is planned to be used. I mean if it is going to a flood fund by the government or some other organization or to directly to a particular area or to be used by some other system. Thanks a lot.

I work for BRAC and they have been raising money for flood victims for the last few days. They have allocated 20 crores for this cause, but have not been able to raise much. They have the infrastructure to really reach out to the villages and in my opinion one of the best avenues to allocate funds.
Also, I would urge people who live in cities with big Bangladeshi expats to set up colection booths at stores, (places like Church avenue in Brooklyn, or Jacksons heights in Queens). People want to pay, but do not have the resources.
People can also set up sth on online forums like facebook, myspace etc. I already contacted facebook, but dint get a reply. I was rather dissapointed.
Rebuilding after the floods is a time consuming process, so its never late to collect funds. And Banglacricket is probably a great place where about 5000 expat member visit. Thanks to admin and miraz bhai who has been working hard to get this great thing going.

Our first plan is, Miraz and Ahmed will form a volunteer team in Dhaka (Any BC member in Dhaka can join them) to do the relief in areas that has not received help.
If that can not be arranged due to lack of volunteers, then we will hand over the cash to a well reputated organization.

It might not be easy to find areas that have not received some kind of help already, more so in or around the city. Besides reputed organizations might not be as honest as it may seem.
An alternative would be to send the collected donation money to the Chief Adviser's fund. Here are the official details of the Relief and Welfare Fund for Flood Affected People from CA's office:
Chief Adviser's Relief and Welfare Fund
Current Account no. 33004093
Sonali Bank
Chief Adviser's Office Branch
Tejgaon, Dhaka

CM bhai, that is certainly an option. I had actually emailed CA's office asking them to set up an online donation system (such as paypal) for the expats. At least they put up the account info.

Excellent effort in taking this initiative. It's an unexplicable feeling to be able to do only so much for those in misery back home now. Here's hoping that the fund gets utilized in the best possible way.

Good luck with this timely initiative!!! I hope we can at least cross the $1000 mark.
I think our donation will be utilized to the maximum extent because Miraz bhai is likely to be associated with the relief distribution.

$1000 isn't anything to write home about...IMO. We can donate all we can with our limited capability. But given the number of members (active/inactive/visitors) we have we should see much more than this. There's still time

I encourage everyone to participate with what ever they can. Let all of us come together and donate generously. Some may have already donated in other places for the same cause. A second time or a third time would only help the needy more.
Have mercy!!!
