Default BCB looks to develop the umpiring in bd

Quote:
They surely do the most thankless job in the game of cricket. Hardly anyone takes note when they do their work properly but if they don’t then a lot of questions are raised instantly.
We are talking about the umpires who always carry the risk of being thrown into the hot water. But still someone has to wear the white coat for the greater interest of the game and the more qualified they are the less prone to mistakes they will be.
That is why the Bangladesh Cricket Board (BCB) took the initiative to develop quality umpires through a proper system. Under the contract with Cricket Australia (CA), the BCB has successfully completed the Level-1 Umpiring Course for the first time recently.
The Level-1 Umpiring Course was conducted for four batches at the Sher-E-Bangla National Cricket Stadium. The first batch completed their course from July 12 to 16, which was followed by the other three batches on July 18-22, July 25-29 and July 31-August 4. Each batch comprised 25 umpires. There are 13 umpires in the National Pool, 20 in the `A’ grade, and around 80 each in the B and C grades in the country. The umpires from the National Pool and all grades took part in this Level-1 Coaching Course.
The 5-day course involved theory, practical and video sessions. There were two interpreters to bridge the language barrier between the instructors and the participants. The instructors Bob Stratford, Darren Goodger, Tim Donahoo and Bob Parry all came from Australia. The four have been reputed umpires in the past and are now acclaimed trainers’ in the field of umpiring.
The instructors evaluated each participant after the course. Marks were distributed in the following manner – 25 for class participation and 25 for the theory examination which is usually held on the last day of the course, and 50 for Field Assessment. A 50-over per side match between BKSP and Dhaka Invitation XI was arranged on the fourth day of each course. A pair of course participants officiated for eight overs and the instructors evaluated them according to their on-field performance.

A Level-2 Coaches Course is scheduled to take place in January 2008 and 25 umpires out of the 100 participants will take part in that course. Besides, one Umpire’s Assessor Course and one Umpire’s Selectors Course would be held in the first year of the contract between CA-BCB. The same courses will also be repeated in the second year of the contract.

Both Nadir Shah and EH Moni seem decent enough, maybe better than Asoka even ...

Need more umpires who can understand and speak English.
Dont want that embarrasing Mahbubur Alam/(Rahman?) incident at Fatullah test.
