Default We might as well play ODIs like 20/20s

Looking at our recent 20/20 scores, we get around 150+ runs after 20 overs for the loss of about 4/5 wickets. Playing ODIs with our hallowed 'try to preserve wickets' strategy for the first 20 overs, we end up with about half the amount of runs but the same number of wickets lost after 20 overs. My recommendation to our team management is that we approach ODIs as we do 20/20s.

The above is clearly a joke post, but my main point is that our 'playing it safe' approach so far has not paid off in terms of ODI victories other than the occasional shocker where an Ash or Aftab clicks. What we should take away from 20/20's is that we can afford to be a bit more aggressive when setting the tone early in our ODI matches.

I agree.

We should play like 20-20.

Tarpor if we see that we have lost a lot of wickets, we can start to slog till the 50th over.

I've been thinking the same thing. Negative approach towards the game is responsible for many of our ODI losses. Hopefully T20I matches will change that.

We will never win regularly if we can't make good use of powerplays on a regular basis.

In that way, we will see score like 600+ in ODIs.

We always played like 20-20. That is why we are so much experience in this form and doing better :p

T20 will definitly have an impact on ODI for all teams. Batsmen will start to be more agressive, total scores will rise.

As for BD, Its only recently we have openers like Nazim or Tamim, we are more used to the likes of Golla, thus the test like batting in the first 20 overs. If throughout the WC we do good scores in the 20 overs, why not give this idea a chance.

Time will tell.

(No joking) Well, within couple of years we would be forced to follow this strategy. 434 would be dud bhat to many team then. SL just scored 260 in 20 overs. 180+ in 30 overs bam hater khela. This is without having much experience I might add.

T20 will surely effect the ODI playing style... as ODI has effected a lot in the Test playing style. Teams dont like drawn-results in tests anymore... and an RR of around 4 is becoming more common in test matches these days. So its obvious that T20's 10ish RR will push ODI RR towards 7 to 8.

But what is the cure of BD teams problem of not being able to sustain much more than 60-70 overs in test matches? That... IMO.. is a serious problem!

Confidence gained from regularly making good totals in ODI and T20I should help, at least on the mental side.

I have a better idea. We should play test matches like it is 20-20. We don't score above 130-150 against quality opposition like Srilanka anyways.

Maybe we should... maybe we shouldn't... i dunno. I think too much Twenty20 matches will make the format a bit boring, and it might end up as how ODIs are seen, so the main difference is, it is more fun, more boundaries and wickets, so i think yeah, why not!!!

yep spot on...we need to start building scores of closer to 300 against quality bowling attacks.

we have to attack more, but unfortunately, we only have 3-4 guys who can score at a run a ball or better.

tamim, nazim, ash, aftab, and mashrafee are the only ones. perhaps alok too.

and at least one of those guys has to bat the entire slog overs so if ash only bats 5, then aftab or mashrafee must bat the other 5. a minumum of 80 runs is needed off the last 10 nowadays, preferablly 90-100.

guys like SN, sakib, mushy et al need to score solidly at a SR of around 70 (definitely no less than 60). they need to be the anchors of the team.

which means guys like Javed, bashar, and pilot have absolutely no business in the ODI team.

good points, agree with you,any ways bd should play positively otherwise they will end up not reaching 150 ,they should try to play with their heart and not listen to people who tell them to defend .

i think we dont need a suggetion to play twenty20 game in odi as our players are already doing that. And by doing that they are losing too many wickets early and end up limping to 150's.

I dont understand why Ash can't play a innings without a black spot. His black spot is, he has given a straight forward lollypop to the WI fielder. Consider that was taken, it surely would have been a different story..
