World Cup 2011 format changed: Bangladesh gets 7 matches
The world cup organizing committee has decided to go back to World Cup 2003 format for the upcoming World Cup Cricket 2011 in which Bangladesh is a co-host. The decision was taken in the organizing committee meeting in Bangalore yesterday.
According to the new format, 14 teams will be divided into two groups and top 3 teams from each group will progress to the super six round.
This format is expected to reduce the duration of the world cup. The good news is Bangladesh is getting 7 matches, one more than previously decided 6 matches. India will host 22 matches, Pakistan 17 and Sri Lanka 10 matches.
Each team will play 6 matches in the group stage.
This will defnitely reduce the chances of elimination of India and Pakistan from group stages.

At least they will be playing 6 matches each not 2.

Anyway, so much for a short world cup. The WI world cup lasted 47 days whereas SA world cup lasted 43 days, only 4 days difference.

It's not about short world cup. Its all about the tactics of India & Pakistan to be in the super 8. They don't like to play only 3 matches and go home again. So they had to do something.

Bhai, Niyoter upore Allah kormer folafol nirdharon koren.......
Both Endia Pak (aka losers) saying that their objective is a shorter WC. But actually the reason is to adopt the best possible way that will prevent the advancement of Tigers in the second round. Their intention is wicked, so "best method for shorter worldcup" will not save them. Just wait and see.....

But this is pretty odd that india along with 22 matches and all the other 3 countries gonna host 34 matches. this is pretty odd. 40% of the whole tournament gonna be hosted by them. 12.5% By Bangladesh, 30% by Pakistan and 17.5% by Sri Lanka. This is not fair with us and Sri Lanka.

with 5 test team in each side and going by the position of 07 world cup, pak and ind has equal chance of going to the 2nd round.
true, they will play 6 matches. but thats about it.

the chorus of 'shorter version' has finally turned out to be a plot to give money-raising giants pak & ind more matches. i am happy, though. the 2007 type of format was the worst-ever that was designed to give so called 'lesser teams' minimum no. of matches which so 'wonderfully(!) back fired!!!
i consider this as a straight forward defeat of icc
the performance of bd & ireland was a 'SLAP' in the greedy face of icc

the only bad side is, apart from our own heroics, we'll have to rely on some other teams' performance to oust 'icc-pampered' indians & pakistanins

I don't think this is a bad idea. Give more matches to everyone, let them qualify by playing more matches.
