Default Ishant Sharma : " Who is Shakib-al hasan"

Mashra-fee bin Murtaza has had many shocking experiences during his time in South Africa with the Kolkata Knight Riders. But the one thing that shocked him more than anything else was the attitude of some Indian players towards the Bangladeshis.
He was simply stunned when Ishant Sharma told him one day in the dressing room that he did not know Sakib al Hasan. Sakib was already the number one all-rounder in the ICC one-day rankings and many cricket aficionados around the world know it very well.
Still Ishant found it tough to identify him. And when Mashrafee told him about Sakib’s ranking, he looked at Mashrafee in a way that he must be telling a joke. This is one of the many stories that Mashrafee shared with his friends and team-mates after returning from South Africa.
Sakib also heard the story from Mashrafee. But he was hardly surprised. When he smashed a half-century at Port of Spain to kick India out of the 50-50 World Cup in 2007, Ishant was yet to make his debut.
‘Honestly speaking, I don’t really care who knows me or who doesn’t. If I can perform I am sure all of them will know me,’ Sakib told New Age on Friday ahead of Bangladesh’s Twenty20 World Cup opener against India.
This is exactly what Sakib keeps saying about his non-selection for Indian Premier League whenever anyone raises the issue to him. The journalists from England, India and Ireland could not still believe how the IPL franchises could ignore a player like him who is good with both bat and ball and also very athletic on the field.
‘I did not lose my sleep over IPL. Maybe I was not that known to the IPL franchises when the auction was held. I became number one all-rounder just few days before the auction. So it was not very unusual,’ said Sakib.
‘I was expecting nothing before the auction. All I know is that if I can play well for Bangladesh team, my chance will come,’ said Sakib, who is keen to do his best in the Twenty20 World Cup.
Sakib was overshadowed by Tamim Iqbal and Mashrafee bin Murtaza despite scoring 53 runs in Bangladesh’s much-talked about World Cup match, which helped Bangladesh record a stunning four-wicket victory over India.
His 84-run partnership for the fourth wicket with Mushfiqur Rahim was the decisive blow for India. Despite the performance he did not get his deserved credit especially from the Indian media, who were awestruck by Tamim.
Although Sakib never admitted it publicly, he came to realise that perhaps he needs to do more to get their attention which is necessary for him to pursue his IPL career in future.
‘India is a great cricketing nation. If I can play good cricket against them I will get more publicity, which I cannot get by playing against the other teams,’ said the 22-year-old all-rounder.

From the New age.

I guess Ishant will finally know who he is on Saturday ! its a tournament of upsets !

That boy got the beating right after the WC 2007 in Bangladesh. And he doesn't know Shakib? What a crap! Typical Indian players!!

June 6th is the day to know all the Bangladeshi players. Be ready boy!!! Don't shi*t on the field.. It's gonna stink when we go to play again on June 8th..And We don't like stinky things.....

I'm sure we would know about them if they were in the top 10 or 20 in the ranking.

well it's a fact that the teams haven't played each other for sometime. I don't think he spoke out of arrogance. he might be speaking the truth.

Who cares about ranking? Sehwag once asked who is wadekar or someone. Some legendary player. He doesn't have to know about anyone.

They should. They better, stats and all. They are an opponent in a WC for crying out loud.

No...but if any one of the Irish players ranked number one all rounder in the world, I am sure our Bangladeshi players would have known that Irish player.

Actually, I think they do. But I guess I can't be certain. I think players do know about most team's top performer...

I am cricket fan. I don't know that either. Usually they only highlight top batsman and bowler.

But Ishant played against Shakib in few games in Bangladesh after the WC 2007.

It was just typical Indian arrogance!!

But who cares if he knows him or not. He is a nobody.

Tomorrow is the day to know about him. Go Shakib Go!!

hahaha. what an overreaction.

‘Honestly speaking, I don’t really care who knows me or who doesn’t. If I can perform I am sure all of them will know me,’ Sakib told New Age on Friday ahead of Bangladesh’s Twenty20 World Cup opener against India.

This guy has the right attitude. I wish i could say the same for some of his countrymen, who seem to care so much that they feel inclined to start threads on internet forums to discuss this pointless issue. Honestly guys, why do you care whether some Indian knows your favourite player or not ? Why does it rankle you so much ? Do you really need Indians to validate your existence ? I wouldn't think so, but reading the comments in this thread...

"uhh uhhh we lost, so instead of being gracious about it, we burn effigies and make our players scared to return home"
