It wasn't unexpected. It's a trend in our cricket team that when the openers do well, middle order fails, when openers do bad, middle orders sometimes do well. So for that reason I didn't get excited yesterday when I saw the openers doing so well.
However, I have to blame the openers for some reason. They shoudn't have got out. THey were the set batsmen. If one of them stayed, then it could've been otherwise.

its a shame that after 8 years in test cricket we are still collapsing as we did 7-8 years ago. we've got a decent team but there are few weak links and they are doing the most of the damages. we didn't need haba and aftab in the test and i hope haba don't get anymore chance. rajin will be a much better option and farhad or sakib for aftab.

What else can be added...? The story of Bangladesh, I guess. We spoke about how the selection was wrong and it proved again that gut feel doesnt win you matches,,consistent performance does. Aftab/Bashar/Nafees/Mushfique never performend against Bariasal/Sylhet and we expected them to perform against New Zeland, what else can you say about that... We ourselves are creating this embarrasment, so be it. Let us be humilated again and again until some wise wakes up and realizes finally what Test criceket is all about.

Handling sudden prosperity when there has been none can be tricky as well. That will be the next learning curb. For a starter , we have at least found a good pair of opening batsmen after years of futile search, and just as Siddons said, it is time to focus on the next four. In the future, granted we keep getting solid effort from either of the opening bat, we will take advantage. It will come. It has to.

Aftab can remain as an ODI specialist, that is the only way he knows to bat. He has lovely strokes, and if he can learn to play spin, he then can be a valuable batsman.
I still think that Siddons will have faith in him, and maybe when he returns to BD, Siddons will help him. I hope so for Aftab's sake.
