Default Doosraful

Our Ash has been quite the inspiration for so much of the special argot of us Bangladesh cricket fans. We have our Eids and now, courtesy of de Villiers' bizarree dismissal by Ashraful, the lexicon has grown to include Doosraful.

Future crikcetymologist do not need to argue over the when and who.

Here he is: Electrequiem

And here is how it happened.

A doosra (Urdu: دوسرا, doo-srah) is a particular type of delivery by an off-spin bowler in the sport of cricket, invented by Pakistani cricketer Saqlain Mushtaq.[1] The term comes from the word do (pronounced 'doh' or 'doe'), which means "two" in Urdu and Hindi, and, in this context, "the other one". (Literally, it means "second" or "the second one").[2] Saqlain Mushtaq also invented a variant of the Doosra, a ball which he calls the Teesra, coming from Urdu and Hindi for the third one.

This ball was the turning point for us. That partnership was going strong. And what a ball to break the partnership.

I was the first one to call it "Ash's Doosra" in the BD match thread. Everyone just took the "Doosra" clue from there and started coining his own variant.

I protest.

Electrequiem Bro,

It is on a lighter note - probably i have nothing better to do than protest

On a side note, look at this quote from thread 50 of the BD-SA match thread

The commentator Shivaramakishan called it "doosra" on air first and after that people started adding the suffixes. Even the ball after his doosra or "doosraful" as you guys are calling it was almost a repeat. Boucher played the ugliest drag-pull I have ever seen but I guess it complements the rubbish Ashraful was bowling. With his quality or lack of it, it's a mystery to me how does this guy picks up anyone's wicket?

watch from 8:03 onwards...I think you are confusing this incident between Johan Botha's "doosra" that Shivaramakrishnan was talking of later.

Yea...it was the turning point for us. But Ash only gets the credit for (1) a bowling change, and (2) an easy catch that was taken...not for the particular ball that got de villiers.

The ball was so pathetic that de Villiers thought "OK, here's a lollypop". Poor fella.

So yea...Ash got the wicket. But he hardly gets any credit for a good ball. We all know that it wasn't meant to turn the way it did.
