Why do we need Group A and B to make this fixture?

I am wondering if BCB will allow Dhaka clubs to hire ICL players like Imran Farhat, Taufiq Umar, Abdul Razzaq, Mushtaq Ahmed, Mohammad Sami, etc. Since those guys practically murdered their international and FC careers, they should be available to play in Dhaka premier league. Dhaka premier league is not recognized as a list-A league, BCCI should not have any objection those players playing here.

From Daily Star -
Quote:
Although the big guns will be without the top stars -- on national duty in the ongoing home series against South Africa -- the youth team's return from Malaysia last night after the Under-19 Cricket World Cup will somewhat help the teams fill in a few gaps.

Victoria have signed Pakistani's Jaffar Qureshi, a tested all-rounder in Dhaka, while Kalabagan have a solid batsman in Shahbaz Butt, also from Pakistan.

Last year's runners-ups Mohammedan, who lost all their matches in the T20 competition despite winning the inaugural trophy last season, have roped in Delhi off-spinner Ajit Chandela. The Indian player is expected to take the field against debutants BKSP at the Fatullah Stadium.

BKSP, who shocked Mohammedan in the T20 opener, will not take any foreign cricketer.

Other foreign cricketers likely to play the first round are Hong Kong national team's Pakistani-born left-arm spinner Monir Ahmed (Old DOHS), Rashed Hanif (Partex) and Fahadullah (Sonargaon).
Old DOHS has brought an SLA from Hong Kong when we have an overflowing supply of SLAs at home !!!

Hong Kong player plays in Bangladesh Premier League

Hong Kong Cricket Association

Moner Ahmed has accepted an offer from OLD D.O.H.S. Sports Club to play in the Bangladesh Premier League 50 over competition. Moner Ahmed impressed Khalid Mahmood, former Bangladesh Test Captain and Coach of the Bangladesh National Academy, who visited HK earlier this year, by smashing 50 runs and taking 3-32 in his 10 overs in the 1st ODI game. He was the stand out performer from the Hong Kong Team.

This was not the first time Moner has impressed against a Bangladesh Team, in the Hong Kong International Sixes Moner bowled a tight over against them and gave only two runs for one wicket.

Moner Ahmed plays for Little Sai Wan Cricket Club in HKCA Sunday League and has now completed his 4 years residency in HK to be considered for Selection for the Hong Kong National Team as a Deemed National.

"It is a great opportunity for me to play professional cricket," said an excited Moner, " I hope I can perform well and get more such chances."

"Moner is a great example for young HK cricketers, " added Sohail Murshed, Chairman of HKCA International Committee, "it shows that a good performance against a professional team will get you noticed. I hope more HK players will perform and get opportunities like this in the future."

Moner will be out of HK for two months and his first game for his club team is on March 1st 2008.

Mohammedan's foreign recruit Ajit Chandela is not even an FC player. He plays for Indian Airlines in a Delhi club league.

Abahani, Mohammedan get off to a fine start

http://www.bdnews24.com/details.php?id=42602&cid=26

Dhaka, March 1 (bdnews24.com) – Holders Abahani Limited, last year's runners-up Mohammedan Sporting Club and City Club got off to a fine start on the opening day of the Premier Division Cricket League Friday.

An unbeaten 66-run from skipper Tushar Imran powered Abahani to a comfortable six -wicket win over newcomers Surjo Torun at Sher-e-Bangla National Stadium while an unbeaten 87 runs by Faisal Hossain Dickens helped Mohammedan beat Bangladesh Krira Shikkha Protisthan (BKSP) by 53 runs at Narayanganj Osmani Stadium.

City Club recorded a tense two-run win over Sonargaon Cricketers at the BKSP ground-2.

Abahani vs Surjo Torun

Put in to bat first, Surjo Torun fell in trouble losing opener Uttam Kumar for nought before opener Shakil Haider (60) along with middle orders Nizamuddin (29, Shamsur Rahman (29 and Nayeem Islam (27) repaired the damage.

But, the late order failed to carry on the success to be folded at 178 all out in 49.2 overs after losing the last four wickets for 21 runs in the face of some tight bowling from the Dhanmondi-based Abahani.

Arafat Sunny and Rezaul Karim took two wickets each for 33 and 45 respectively.

Abahahi, who reached the Premier League Twenty20 final, reached 180 for four with 7.4 overs to spare as opener Mahbubul Karim laid a solid foundation of 41.

Tushar Imran and Nadif Chowdhury remained unbeaten on 66 and 16 to steer the holds home.

Mohammedan vs BKSP

After being invited to bat first, Mohammedan, who lost all five Twenty20 matches, once again fell in trouble to be reduced to 42 for four in 14th overs.

Middle order batsmen Chandana (20) and Dickens (87 not out) and Suhrawardi Shuvo (35) rescued the Motijheel-based outfit to take their side to 203 for nine in 50 overs.

Moshiur Rahman led the attack with four for 52 while Mahmudul Talukdar and Latiful Khan grabbed two wickets each for 23 and 35 respectively.

In reply, BKSP, who upset Mohammedan in Twenty20 opener, managed 156 for seven in 50 overs despite a top order collapse.

Saimon Ahmed (47), Nazmul (31), Raihan Anas (18) and Mominul Haq (18) were remarkable scorers after Tapash Kumar Bhaisya rattled the top order taking three for 40.

City Club vs Sonargaon

Imran Ahmed struck first ton and Sumon Barua hammered an explosive fifty as City Club posted a fighting total of 244 for four in 50 overs after deciding to bat first.

Imran smashed 128 off 155 balls featuring nine fours and four sixes while Sumon played a 56-ball 67 that included seven fours and two sixes.

In reply, Sonargaon got off to a fine start with openers putting on 72 runs before Mehrab Hossain Opee fell on 32.

Opener Elias Sunny (64), Arman Hossain (37), Fahadullah (35) and Sharifullah (11) took their side to 193 in 42.4 overs before Fahadullah was the fifth batsman out.

Afterwards, Sonargaon needed 51 runs in 46 balls with five wickets in hand, but they finally saw two runs short of the target though Mostafizur Rahman (23 off 22 balls) and Saif Mahmud (13 off 12 balls) took Sonargaon to the close.

হাবিবুলের ব্যাটে রান, সূর্যতরুণের প্রথম জয়

http://www.bdnews24.com/bangla/detai...d=21850&cid=26

Bashar and Pilot in runs...Shafaq and Arafat with wickets
so basically whoever performs in leagues can not perform in real intl match!!!
Can't figure it out what type of league is it or what are the players abilities.
BD cricket strucutre is really inefficient.

Well, it was a low scoring match. Let see how those two do when Tarun will have to make a big score.

Anyway, I admit that I have underestimated Bashar and Mashud's survival instincts. Those two now know very well that their income sources other than domestic leagues are drying up, so they should give their best to stay alive at this level.

lol, I am 110% on Eshen's corner. Boss jei khela dekhailo. I don't want his average to go down under 30.

The point is 'ex'. Stars can be stars if they produce light. If they don't they die a slow painful death. Good on them they saved Surjo Probin from the jaws of defeat against citiclub. But citiclub is not the best team out there.
