Travelling to Dhaka from UAE for Asia Cup - need your help!
Salam BCers!
I'm planning along with a few friends to head to Dhaka for the Asia cup matches on the 15th and 18th, and possibly stick around if Pakistan makes the final
Dearly need your advice on a few matters.
- A clean, inexpensive hotel that is ideally located to the city centre and the stadium.
- Where can I buy tickets for the matches, and what is the best place to sit in the stadium!
Hope to meet you guys situated in Bangladesh at the matches, many thanks in advance!

I am not sure if you can get better hotels near the stadium as its near mirpur but you can get good quality hotels near banani or gulshan which would be the nearest place to stay. they havn't decalred anything about tickets but normally they r sold through banks. You can rent van/mirco with driver which would be the best option to move around dhaka as getting cabs and stuff is very expensive and some time u won't even find one. + driver can be used as a guid for local food. always travel with cash. you can do a search to find good quality hotels in banani-Gulshan.

Salaam Ahmed Z bhai and welcome to Banglacricket...yeah just as Akabir bhai above said, do that and you should have a good time, look for accomodation/hotels in Gulshan/Banani neighbourhood and since you will have a few friends with you, why not rent a Micro and that way more than likely the driver of the micro would be helpful enough to take you any kind of food, shopping that you would want to go find.
Ticket information will be released by BCB a bit later now, and keep an eye on BC (Banglacricket.com) and you will know how to go about to get them. No worries right now.
Best of luck, good journey and have a great time enjoying the Asia Cup in Bangladesh! Cheers!

OK do you guys know of any decent hotels in those areas?
Nothing too fancy, just some lads going on a short trip
I will have to have a booking order with me before I can apply for a visit visa at the embassy.

BCB should have some packages deal (including accommodation, match tickets, travel arrangement) for those who would like to come from abroad. Australia, England boards provide such facilities.

Whoa.... hang on. Sorry to have misled you, I was referring to a local restaurant very popular among stadium goers of old. They're not a residential hotel per se, unless lamisa is referring to one such residential hotel in mirpur. I myself have had biriyani lunch at Prince Hotel at Mirpur on one occasion.
No, at best I shall advise you to try one of many "Guest Houses" in Banani and Gulshan area of Dhaka. They provide cheaper accomodation than the big name hotels in the city. These are some lists with good names:

http://www.angelfire.com/tx/rezaul/guest.htm
BRAC Centre Inn may be an option if you're so inclined, 5 minutes walk to Gulshan.

hello mr AhmedZ
http://www.grandprince-dhaka.com/
this is the website of the hotel that is only a 10-15 min walk from the Stadium. thats a decent hotel with decent facilities.
the bangladesh cricket players used to stay there during the training camps and domestic cricket games. also tatenda taibu and some other foreign players stay their during domestic cricket.
also during international games reporters and journalists from foreign media stays there.
u will find lots of restaurants around with cheap and good food and also enough shopping centres and super malls in 5-10 min walking distance.
But during asia cup it will be hard to find rooms there as a said lots of foreign media people stay there.
