Bangladesh included in women's Asia Cup
Bangladesh have been rewarded with a spot in the 2008 women's Asia Cup following their win at the Asian Cricket Council tournament last year. So this edition of the Asia Cup, to be held in Sri Lanka, will see four teams - India, Pakistan, Sri Lanka and Bangladesh - unlike the previous ones where only the first three participated.
The 10-day long tournament, from May 2 to May 11, will be played at Dambulla and Welagedara, near Kandy. The teams will play each other twice before the top two meet for the final in Welagedara.
Sri Lanka last hosted the tournament in April 2004, but it was in fact a bi-lateral series which India won 5-0. India went on to win the next two editions as well.
Bangladesh, who didn't drop a single game in the ACC tournament - their first major tournament - are not ranked in the top 14 sides in the world. This means their matches in the Asia Cup will not be considered one-day internationals. Their first match of the tournament is against India on May 2 in Welagedara.

Let's hope they can put up a couple of decent shows in the Asia Cup. With all due respect to our sisters/bhagnis, and without meaning to detract from their achievement, the teams they faced in the ACC were "faltu" teams. The teams they will meet in the Asia Cup will be of an entirely different calibre altogether.

Our women team is like our u-19 team. Too strong in bowling too weak in batting. Will end up with similar result.

Precisely. The only way to get better is by competing with better teams. Just don't get disillusioned if they don't do too well in this first outing against the big (er..) girls.
