Bangladesh to host SAARC Cricket Championship for A teams
By Khurram Shahzad
MIRPUR (Bangladesh): Bangladesh is planning to host South Asian Association for Regional Cooperation (SAARC) Cricket Championship for A teams of the region and hopes that it will be a great help in game’s promotion inside the country. “This is an idea on which we are working and will involve other regional teams as well in near future,” Bangladesh Cricket Board (BCB) director international events Ahmed Sajjadul Alam told Daily Times here on Tuesday.
He said the BCB was trying to host more international cricket in the country and was in a process to adopt various measures to invite other teams. “We understand that big teams can’t come to our country everyday because International Cricket Council (ICC) Future Tour Programme is already much hectic. So we are working to organise this SAARC event for A teams,” he added.
He said Bangladesh had been playing with the national teams of Pakistan and India for quite some time now but needed more activity for their players. “We hope to organise this SAARC championship every year.” He said the ongoing Kitply Cup involving India, Pakistan and Bangladesh may also take place after regular intervals but that also depends on the ICC programme.
“Our country is looking towards Pakistan and India to develop cricket and we need more cooperation from them. They have provided us with coaches and other assistance but the reality is that we need more and require their further support,” he stated. He said the BCB was also developing more grounds in country to host international cricket and would be able to have a bunch of international cricket centers in near future.
“So far we have five stadiums in Dhaka, Chitagong and Raj Shahi. We are going to develop another one in Silhat which is on a beautiful location surrounded by tea fields,” added Siraj. He said women’s cricket was also becoming popular in the country.

Good ideas on all fronts, maybe the A team even is old news but encouraging none the less.

Very good news indeed.
But as the 'Tea Gardens' become 'Tea field/Khet'. Hope the main purposes ultimately donot get derailed like that.

It's about time they built a decent stadium in Sylhet. though Dhaka and Chjittagong are both, rightly, BD's 1st and second cities, Sylhet's large uk-based population has plenty of disposable income and would love to watch international cricket.
More imprtantly, it's a lot cooler in Sylhet than in other parts of the country, so when it's scorching in Mirpur our cricketers might prefer playing in breezy, hilly sylhet...

Good initiative by the board.
We need to have as much game as we can fit in.

Bogura can easily be served as our academic team's home ground.
Both Barisal and Sylhet is need of an national stadium. No one expects their fan traveling that many miles just to see a home grown players play. At this moment Barisal's home ground is in Bogura, and Sylhet's is Fatullah.
Keep Fatullah for the A team, keep Bogura for the academy and U-19 teams.
