Default Leaving Bangladesh cricket(Post here if you're deciding to stop following Bangladesh cricket)

My dear friends,

Its with deep regret and sorrow I announce that I am leaving Bangladesh cricket. It was an overwhelming journey, a journey more of excruciating phases but the ecstacy of few successes along the way often dwarfed the agony of 'seemingly eternal' failures. Whatsoever, I am afraid its time that I have to detach myself from this journey which had kept me mesmerised for nearly a decade.

Recently, the unanimous decision by some of our national players to join the rebel ICL has surely not gone down well infront of my eyes. Infact, I wouldn't have complained if the 'particular' individuals would have taken such a decision in their mid or even early 30's. For this reason, Bashar and Rafique have my utmost respect amongst the group but regarding Aftab and others alike, I am in a state of utter disbelief and shock. These players receive a handsome pay-scale according to Bangladeshi standards, and with their current earnings as contracted players, can afford to have more than 'simply a good lifestyle' in a country where 70% of her population is below the 'poverty line'. If their desire for earning in much larger quantities were so strong, they had the option available of reviving their international careers with spectacular form(given the talent they're bestowed with) and probably get an opportunity in IPL. With this, they could have still played for Bangladesh and simultaneoulsy earn 'big bucks', but alas, they never shared that notion! I was so wrong!

Even if our players would have got a chance in IPL, and if a similar controversy like the present Lankan situation would have surrounded our cricket, candidly speaking, they would still have remained 'national heroes' for me, because its the money, and not patriotism, that'll feed one's empty stomach. So they would have their valid points in such a scenario. However, with the latest action of players like Nafees and Farhad, the message from them appears to be: 'Money is Everything; Everything is Money'. Yes. 'Money is Everything; but Not Everything is Money.'
I feel ashamed to reveal that once Aftab and Nafees were amongst my most favourite cricketers as I had never spoken of them anything against or demoralising in past even during the worst of their times. Its futile though to say such things now.

Well, since I am ceasing to follow Bangladesh cricket, this post, in all probability, is my last one in www.banglacricket.com; my 'first home' on net. I vow to never return and never misuse those precious moments of day and night, until I really see 11 players of Bangladesh playing for the pride and honour of representing our beloved nation, rather than playing for a dozen cars and a couple of palaces after their retirements.

May Allah bless you all in this Holy Month of Ramadan.

Yours sincerely,
Ruhaan Israr
(Former avid Bangladesh cricket supporter;
from 31st May,1999 to 15th September, 2008)

I wouldn't leave a friend or someone I love during a time of duress. If anything, supporting them is more necessary now than ever, so please re-consider your stance. We have to circle around the people who are there. They all could have left.

to be honest with you, no offense to people, i think israr bro made the right choice...for especially students you have no idea following bangladesh cricket and staying up nights skipping class, hw, people like me gets a C instead of an A... plus for people with wife waititng in bed and not spending time with their kids by following BC is more harmful than beneficial!

for traditional religious(typical bangladeshi guy "converts to islam" at the age of 40 after a sinful life) people after retirement, it is a different issue

loving your country and cricket is one thing. wasting time and destroying one's quality time enjoying the simple things in life is another...
