How many practice matches before tests or ODIs on away tour is ideal for BD?
1) Dav getting the reigns took our boys a month earlier in Australia in 2003. In the actual games, the talk of first one day test withered just as the match started. At the end of the tour, Steve Waugh (then Aussie Captain) said Bd performed better than many test nations hinting Pakistan and WI.
2) We were the first nation to reach WI before the WC 2007. We played the highest number of matches there. We were accustomed with the weather. No jetlag, wow!!The result, whole world watched and praised.
Preparation for any tour must be full-proof before any tour. Especially on away tour. This is nothing new I am bringing up. We have discussed this before. However, this should be in our cricket development boards mind before scheduling any tour. So I ask you while thinking of budget, traveling, environment, experience; how many "prostuty" matches should BD play in an away tour? Justify your stances why do you thing that is the ideal number.

even 100 practice matches would not be enough. the problem is not the lack of practice matches. So I voted for 0.

3-4 will be nice, since we have no test to play this time.

You didn't read my first post? I gave two examples.
Away practice matches prepares newbies to atleast put up a fight.

Mijan bhai, for once I'll disagree with you.
1. Getting accustomed means getting accustomed to the weather, playing conditions, etc. That is possible in regular practice in Aus. Practice matches are not going to help any better.
2. The WC success wasn't entirely for getting there early. It was also because of the winning mentality that they got accustomed to (although playing with weaker teams).
3. Who will you play practice matches with?
However, I have a different reason for voting for 3-4 matches.
1. Practice matches will keep the boys in a regular playing condition. No chance to wither away or wilt like a dead flower by playing a series...they'll be in "dour de" mode. And before the tour, we have nothing else coming up!
2. If the practice matches can be arranged in Aus, then that will be better. Playing against local teams will give the boys practice with different bowling strategies.
Having said that, I don't see the team going to Aus early to accommodate all these. There's a Toronto trip they've got on the way.

A decent first class side of course. Very little to gain against University ameture sides.
About winning mentality, lol, against who? Refresh your memory and read the coach's reasoning on why we did well in the 2007 WC. We had the best PREPARATION. Tigercricket archive'a thaktey parey interview gula. I am sure BC'tey kono ekta thread'eo thakbey. Read up on it. (As I said, putting emphasis on preparation on foreign soil is nothing new in an away tour)
Practice match also allows the coach and captain to choose the best combination. Gives everyone the opportunity. And goofing in those match does allow to work on deficiencies before the real game. There is no "mattobori"/"nak golano" by the selectors in away tours also.

Practice makes a person perfect....
that's a good idea...we should just practice and practice
Just for our team's preparation we should tell the opponent to play in a practice mood and then depending on our mood we can convert back the practice match into real match if things go on our way
our players are lucky got to have a great mamu like Fazal mamu...mamu barir abdar

Give 'em as many practice matches as you want, but they are still going to choke come the real match.
Thats Bangladesh Cricket team.

When Bangladesh arrived in England for WC '99, snow was to be found on the ground. I think they played 7 practice matches.
While the cup was of tremendous succeess, they did lose badly to NZ and Aus.
But they were a well oiled machine...performing fully to their potential.

Practice matches might help to improve in future. It definitely doesn't help in the series. It alows the opponent to get a closer look at our players and they even don't allow our players to get settled. Result is demoralizing.
With no practice match, they will have a better result in the first few matches. longer the series, poorer the performance, shows it clearly that our boys aren't capable of exploiting the contions.
Even in our home conditions, the opponents use the conditions better than us.

my 3 cents:
1. i voted for 3-4 because i personally believe 5+ is way too much as it will most likely have the same impact as 3-4 matches. how about 3 first class matches and 1 List A or 2 first class matches and 1 List A at least? we need to know about the upcoming opposition players, Pitch, weather, which deserving 11 should make the final XI etc. etc. in order to effectively satisfy thse demands, i personally feel it is absolutely necessary to have at least 2 First Class and 1 List A matches especially for Bangladesh if we are to see quality Performance from Bangladesh in the international arena.
2. 1-2 would be too little(especially for bangladesh, 5+ would be way too many, and at most 4 at least 2(but 3 preferred)). Bangladesh selection policy is very difficult these days, (BC members bash selectors, but truly it is a difficult job especially when everyone is relatively inexperienced and you are gambling with their probability of success)
3. the purpose of practice matches is to prepare a strong XI and a strong gameplan strategy for the upcoming series, so the selectors, coach, captain, team management, players should keep these things in mind. all it matters is that you perform where it counts!!!

Don't worry. BD will use -
T20s in Canada for preparation of ODIs in Aus and SA
ODIs in Aus and SA for preparation of Tests in SA
Obviously they will fail in all of these tours and blame inadequate preparations for that
