Default Tamim Iqbal should play for english county sooner rather than later!

I believe the only way Tamim Iqbal will get better is play at the english county level because as we all witnessed, Bangladesh A struggled against division 2 teams never mind division 1 teams like Lancashire.

Cheetham, the bowler who grabbed 3 wickets said of the only bangladesh player that can play at county leagues already now
'i thought the left handed opener put the bad balls away beautifully. He batted really well. You just had to keep changing the balls up to him and keep him guessing. He played really well'.

As well as Cheetham, the brightnew prospect, other commentators praised him and that can only mean one thing. If he was willing to play for them they would accept him. I hope he decides to find a suitable team in need of a regular opening batsman and then will improve more on his already impressive performances.

BTW, below is a 5-7 minute video from Lancashire cricket show(the rest of the vid is not about bangladesh). It includes a host of questions asked to current Bangladesh A team coach Salim Shahed who seems like a decent manager and also speaks fluent English;

No County team is going to gamble one of their two precious overseas players spots on Tamim when there's so many experienced pros with proven track records to choose from around the world.

Unless he discovers a long lost European grandparent and secures a EU passport, or, God forbid, abandons Bangladesh and signs on a Kolpak, we'll just have to wait for him to prove himself over a number of years before the Counties come knocking.

Thanks for posting that video, very much appreciated.

i think it would be great for his development if he could play against some higher quality opposition more often. the standard of international cricket is a bit too high, BD's domestic standard is too low, best option is to find some places that are inbetween. CC would be good, india would be good, personally i think 1st grade aussie grade cricket would also be very good, a number of international players have played 1st grade cricket in NSW and i have no doubt that a number of clubs would be happy to have a player like tamim.

i do agree that his chances in CC aren't that great, teams can only have a couple of internationals and why wouldn't they pick an established, outsanding international performer over a young, inexperienced player who doesn't perform as consistently? in saying that he seems to have impressed some people on this A tour which means he might be in with a chance, his name now might at least be on the table whereas before it probably wasn't.

It's not that every county team is waiting for BD players to come and join their team. Unless you have ownership stake (Majority) in one of the counties, your wishes won't get fulfilled. Tamim is no Sanath or De Silva.

If I understand county cricket properly, most of the counties have their own leagues. The standard of those leagues should be pretty good and much better than what we have in Dhaka league. Tamim can definitely get a chance with those clubs in the county league such as Surrey league or Lanchashire league.

All right mate, time to take charge of matters.

How much would it cost me to buy one of those country teams?
