Default Bangladesh want WI at home

Bangladesh want WI at home

NEW AGE STAFF CORRESPONDENT

Bangladesh are planning to invite West Indies to tour the country next May instead of them going ahead with their scheduled tour to the Caribbean.
Bangladesh have cited two reasons in this regard.
First, it would be far more financially viable for both sides if West Indies toured Bangladesh instead of the other way round.
From Bangladesh’s view point a tour to the Caribbean would be unduly expensive and at the same time a financial burden for the West Indies as the series is not expected to fetch any financial rewards both in the form of ticket sales as well as the sale of television rights.
There would be very little interest on the tour in the West Indies whereas in Bangladesh, the home team would undeniably draw in huge crowds.
Secondly, it was pointed out that ICC had advised Bangladesh to play as many home series’ as possible, as it would enhance their chances of better success.
Bangladesh were originally slated to play two Tests and three one-day internationals over there.
The BCB officials plan to substitute the one-day series with triangular involving India who will be on a tour to Bangladesh at the time.

While this reads bad news for those who wanted to make the trip to West Indies, it sees like a great idea from BCB and good news for both the team and the fans.

Actually it would be a pain in the butt to get to St. Lucia, since they don't have any direct flights, and it would cost nearly as much as flying to Bangladesh.

Whatever. Home advantage. More money.
The advantages BCB sees with home game, I really doubt BD 11 sees it that way. Come to think of it BD plays quite good away. Something to build on.
More fan pressure at home, especilly if Sujon is around next year.

Also, ahem..

Tigers' Windies tour on
Sports Reporter

Bangladesh will definitely tour the West Indies in May next year, a highly placed source at the Bangladesh Cricket Board (BCB) confirmed yesterday.

This report also states that the IND tour of BD might not happen this April. Instead, the Asia cup will be staged in Pakistan in early May - just after the India tour of Pakistan is over.

Either way, we'll get a few matches on our hands before the WI tour. Either we'll play in Asia Cup and get the opportunity to beat 2 ICC Associate teams (whether we can do that - that's a different matter, but lest hope that we are capable of beating 2 ICC Associate teams, especially ACC teams) and also play 3 more ODIs against India, Pakistan and Sri Lanka, provided that there won't be any pool or any group stages. Or, we will play a full test and a one day series against India at home.
