NZ Herald report : Concerns over Black Caps' Bangladesh tour
Concerns over Black Caps' Bangladesh tour
There are grave concerns over the standard of competition the Black Caps will face on next month's tour to Bangladesh.
Six Bangladeshi players have reportedly retired from international cricket to play in the rebel Indian Cricket League.
New Zealand Cricket CEO Justin Vaughan says it shows what a threat the ICL still is.
He says it will not be good for the tour if they have to play a weakened opposition, but it will also hugely hinder Bangladesh's development on the international stage.
Vaughan says the Black Caps need good cricket before tests and one-day internationals against the likes of Australia.
Meanwhile, Vaughan continues to remain tight-lipped over potential candidates for the Black Caps coaching job.
South African coach Mickey Arthur is the latest to be linked. Vaughan says interviews begin this week but he does not want to disclose the candidates at this stage, and the formal process will be on-going through September and possibly into October.

Clearly the guy doesn't know that much about our team. Only person whose departure really hurts us is Aftab, and to an extent, Dhiman. And even then, aftab has been injured for a while, while dhiman is still a prospect.

Even though our core team hasnt even weakened hardly at all, the cricket elites just have more excuses to question the competitiveness of BD cricket

this is the biggest problem for our cricket. the image. this unnecessary perception of disaster is creating a complete chaos out of nothing
BCB should have immediately emphasised that all of the players leaving (except aftab) aren't usually in the final XI and thus my kiwi friends you will be playing the same BD strength team as always (inconsistent but with potential :p)

Anyone remember the practice match that BD had won against the Kiwis before the start of World Cup last year? I heard it live on some NZ Radio Channel.
And back then Flemo and the NZ team's judgement on BAN was that "if you give them a whiff of a chance, they'll grab you and hurt you bad and take you down" so if they think and find us weak, why not take a chance and give us a chance to prosper ! A Mutual benefit. Next time they would look before they leap and our stance against the Western Misconception that all is over for Bangladesh cricket will be strengthened!

As we find out once more, money talks. I really can't say anything bad against the players except that they sold out their national pride for a wealthy sum of money. I am not saying that BCB should but can BCB match the offers to keep the youngersters like Aftab, Alok, Dhiman and SN? What is the yearly salary difference between playing for Bd and ICL in US dollars?

well it would not be feasible, per player it would be 66k+ USD per year. I dont know what they pay in BD, but cricinfo reports the pay is a few multiples of it. In any case, at that expense, u can buy a lot of facilities, bowling machines, equipment and maybe create that performance based bonus structure we have been talkin abt.

u want BCB to go up to these players..n go..." oh guys plz dn't go...how abt we'll pay u more than ICL...n let u play in the team all the time..ever if u suck big time"...
let em go..having them in the team after all this...will create a very bad environment...

New Zealand will loose the ODI and Test series. They fear that hence making an excuse not to come. BCB should sue NZ for breaching bilateral contract if they dont turn up.

lets create an analysis of what keeping players might cost us:
At 200k USD/3 year contract, we could acquire these 4 at 800k to stop the ICL draft.
Ofcourse of u pay that much for fringe guys, u have to pay the likes of Mashrafe, Shakid and Tamim equal to it, if not more.
At that rate, to pay the base 200k/3 yr. u have to have a minimum compensatory budget of 2.2 million USD, that is without guarantee of performance or that they wont leave after the 3 yrd.
Combine that with facilities, coaching, and operations cost, we have to have a budget of 10 million by next world cup, not only to match ICL but to improve rapidly in the world stage.
Well, we could have the government plug in that money to our cricket instead of the BCB heads pocketing it, or have rich investors plug it in. But its not happening..so here we go.....

only aftab and maybe SN had a chance at our test lineup...we aren't yet weakened one bit.
the only bad thing is we might now be forced to introduce guys like naeem and shamsur earlier.

BCB needs to come out and come out clean.
We need to send a clear msg to the world media about the real prospects of these players.
Like it or not, the western bloc would try to make the most of this situation and would try every bit to expel BD from test panels. That would reduce india's precious vote.
