Current/Forthcoming Tours

New Zealand in Bangladesh, 2008
Shakib put New Zealand in a spin on Bangladesh's day
18 October 2008
Left arm spinner Shakib Al Hasan spun a web around fragile New Zealand batting line up and grabbed career best six wickets for 32 runs to put Bangladesh on top at the end of the 2nd day of the first Test match at Divisional Stadium in Chittagong today. Good one. But isn't it too early to say that BD victory is in sight?

Sounds good though. The task at hand to have victory in sight:

Clean NZ tomorrow ASAP
Bat well to take a lead above 300.

Finally to have the victory:

Need to take 10 wkts

BANFAN, you are right... lets not talk about victory now. We are in position of clear advantage!!!

To be honest, from here it's Banglades's match to lose. It is quite unheralded territory for Bangladesh and there lies the uncertainty. Any other sub-continent team in this situation could have easily converted this strong position into a win.

yes we r in a gud position..but i wudn't say say we r in a position to win yet...specially knwing our batsman...first thing first tomm..get nz's last wicket..n plan to bat the whole day not just trying to survive out there...but picking up the gaps n keep the scoreboad ticking...

The match will probably see a result after the sub-per batting display from both teams on a deteriorating wicket. New Zealand will resume tomorrow, with Skipper Vettori on 48, to cut the lead of Bangladesh and Bangladesh will be charging with all guns blazing in search for a historic Test victory against a top cricket nation.
I see nothing wrong [or over expecting] with this 'victory' comment, nice read Miraz.

1. We aren't efficient in cleaning the tail, we wait for things to happen, Don't be surprised if the last wicket even equals or overtakes our total tomorrow. First of all cleaning needs to be done, as fast as possible, without conceding more runs. They have to do that for us to believe.
Done quiet well

Quote:
2. With high expectation of a good total in the second innings, you can't say that the team won't be bundled within 110-120 or even less. Pressure will be on our team to make a decent total like atleast 220-250. They have to do that.
Around 70% achieved. if we can take it to 200+ that will be good. Shortfall will make the next step tougher.

Quote:
3. Then we have to take 10 wickets to defend our total. Time is not a factor in this test match. One side will win for sure. If we can take 10 we win, if we can't we don't. This looks pretty difficult to me. If they just work on containing Sakib, who else can cause a collapse? Hope someone does. They have to do it either on individual heroics or as a team.
Will be tough, but possible. I have started missing Enamul & would be fairly confident to even defend 258, if he was there.

Victory is in sight ! Could be argued possibly

With the pitch deteriorating, the spinners are expected to play a vital role - they took 14 out of 15 wickets on Saturday - and Vettori said they got more purchase with a newer ball. "I think it is more dependent on how you use the bowlers," he said. "As the day grows and the ball gets older it dies a little bit. We found that when we were bowling. I think Bangladesh were at their most dangerous early on with both [Abdur] Razzak and Shakib bowling with the newish ball. As the day went on I was out there and it didn't seem to be turning that much. I guess it gets easier the longer you bat but that's the same anywhere in the world."
Vettori disappointed by batting display

Hope BD keeps their intensity.Too often they have let off their gaurd when in a good position. They should remember that a good fight will shut the critics only for a while but a win goes into the record books and will shut the critics up for a long time (if not for ever).

But again BD should try to win for themselves not for the critics ...Good going Sakib.Choke the NZ dont loosen the grip

If we can have 50 runs lead in the 1st innings and then score 200 in the 2nd innings (which would be hardest part having 250 lead, I guess), we will WIN inshAllah.

We have it now. Even more. Confident of winning?

If Mashrafe and Razzak can make a 20 run partner ship then we can score 200.
