Default Bangladesh records broken in the BDNZ series

Shakib Al-Hasan got 7-36 in New Zealand's first innings, giving him the best bowling figures in an innings, beating Enamul Haque Jnr. He also broke his own previous record of 2-44.

Shakib also became the first (Bangladeshi at least) person to get 7 wickets and a 50 in a match when he got 71 in Bangladesh's second innings, which beat his previous best score of 41*, also against New Zealand, and got his first 50 in the process.

If Shakib gets 6 wickets in the second innings, he will have the best figures in a match by a Bangladeshi. His 7-36 alone ranks 4th. In first place is Enamul Haque Jnr with 12 wickets against Zimbabwe in 2005.

Shakib got his 10th Test Wicket.

Shakib hit 12 4's in his innings of 71, breaking his previous record of 6 when he got 41* against New Zealand earlier this year, his previous highest Test score.

Shakib got the most economical figures by a Bangladeshi, bowling 25.5 overs for 36 runs, with an economy rate of 1.39, beating former hero Mohammad Rafique's 1.50 against Zimbabwe.

Other records:

Highest 5th wicket partnership of 144 by Mushfiqur Rahim and Mehrab Hossain Jnr. This is also the 5th highest partnership in terms of runs.

Rahim's 79 in the Bangladesh 1st innings got him 13 boundaries: 12 4's and 1 six. This beats his previous record of 10 boundaries with 9 4's and 1 six. He got this in his best score of 80 last year against Sri Lanka.

Rahim also passed 200 Test runs.

Mehrab got his first 50 and beat his previous best score.

Naeem Islam, making his debut in this match, got his first Test wicket, getting 1-11 in the New Zealand 1st innings. He also became the first Bangladeshi to get a Test wicket in his first over on debut.

Mohammad Ashraful's wicket on Day 2 got him his 100th First Class wicket, and also his 13th test wicket, putting him joint tenth in the all-time Bangladesh list for most wickets.

Rajin Saleh and Ashraful are now joint second in the all-time catches by a non-wicketkeeper: 14 In the lead is the now retired Habibul Bashar, with 22

Mehrab passed 200 Test runs.

Ashraful now has 14 ducks, a Bangladeshi record.

Abdur Razzak beat his previous best bowling figures in a innings when he got 1-51 in the New Zealand 1st innings, beating his previous best of 1-109. If he doesn't bowl again, this alone will be his best bowling figures in an match (also 1-109).

Abdur Razzak passed 100 Test runs.

New Zealand records broken:

171 is the lowest score against Bangladesh, 186 runs lower than their previous lowest, 357.

This was the first time NZ conceded a first innings lead against Bangladesh. In the six Tests so far, only once did New Zealand fail to get a first innings lead of 200, and even on that occasion, they enforced the follow-on and won by an innings. This is only the second occasion that NZ have had to bat for a second time against Bangladesh.

Daniel Vettori took his fourth consecutive five-wicket haul in Bangladesh. In the last series in BD in 2004, he took 6/28, 6/70, 6/100 and now 5/59 and 4/39.

Vettori top-scored for NZ for the second consecutive Test against BD. At Wellington in January 2008, he top scored with 94.

Jacob Oram's 20-14-14-0 in the first innings is the most economical spell for New Zealand against Bangladesh ( at least 5 overs bowled). The only other spell of less than 1 an over is Vettori's 29-15-26-2 at Dhaka in 2004.

Aaron Redmond recorded his 1st Test 50 in the New Zealand 2nd innings. He is currently on 62*, which is his highest score.

The 2nd wicket partnership between Jesse Ryder and Redmond of 90, was a 2nd wicket record against Bangladesh.

Ryder will end the Test with a high score pf 38, after being run out by Mashrafe Mortaza late on Day 4 in the New Zealand 2nd innings.

The ODI records Bangladesh broke against New Zealand:

The victory in the 1st ODI was the first win for Bangladesh in all formats against New Zealand. Bangladesh also beat New Zealand in a friendly bedore the 2007 World Cup.

Junaid Siddique got his first 50 and beat his previous best score.

The ODI records New Zealand broke against Bangladesh:

Ross Taylor got his first ODI 100, ending on 103 from 119 balls.

Records close to being broken:

Mashrafe Mortaza is one wicket behind Rafique in the highest ODI wicket list. Rafique has 119. Abdur Razzak also is not too far behind on 110. He can beat this in the ODI series against South Africa.

Mohammad Ashraful has 1924 runs after this match. He needs 76 runs in the next test to reach 2000 Test runs, only the second Bangladeshi to do so.

Shahadat Hossain has 3 innings maximum in this series to get to 50 Test wickets. He is on 42 at the moment (New Zealand 2nd innings in 1st Test still to come). But he only needs one more wicket to record 100 first-class wickets in his career.

Shahadat also has 3 innings maximum to get 60 runs, which will give him 200 Test runs. He is currently on 140. More realistically, he is on 363 runs in his first-class career, he has 3 innings maximum in this series to get 37 more and record 400 first-class runs.

Tell me if there are any more.

Help !

Cricinfo Statsguru has an option to filter all-round performances. Can someone generate a list of all who have scored a 50 and took 5 WI in an innings in the same Test. I have tried with the runs scored/wickets taken and also result qualifications, but none of this gives the intended result.

1. 171 is the lowest score against Bangladesh. Previous lowest 357.

2. This is also the first time NZ conceded the first innings lead. In the six Tests so far, only once did New Zealand fail to get a first innings lead of 200, and even on that occasion, NZ enforced the followon and won by an innings. Actually this is only the second occasion that NZ have had to bat for a second time.

3. Daniel Vettori took his fourth consecutive five wicket haul in Bangladesh (and is one short of the fifth one). In the last series in BD in 2004, he took 6/28, 6/70, 6/100 and now 5/59 and 4/39.

4. Vettori top-scored for NZ batting at No.8 for the second consecutive Test against BD. At Wellington in January 2008, he hit 94.

5. Oram's 20-14-14-0 in the first innings is the most economic spell in NZ-BD matches (with a cut-off of at least 5 overs). The only other spell of less than 1 an over is Vettori's 29-15-26-2 at Dhaka in 2004.

The commentators were saying that Shakib has become the 8th player to take 7 wickets and score more than 70 in an Innings.

Congratulations to Sakib indeed.
He single handedly keeping us in front throughout the last 3 days.

...and one more stat to mention:
Naeem is the first Bangladeshi to get a wicket in his first over on debut.
That is some remarkable achievement of its own.

At the Tea break Shakib was practicing his over the square sweep shot. That gives him dividend while he played 3 great sweep shots against Patel.

After the Tea when his practicing footage was showing it reminds me of Brian Lara's practice before the play of the (maybe) fourth day against AUS where he batted the greatest innings of Test match cricket and WI won the match by 1 wicket. I'm not comparing Shakib with Lara. That can't be done in dream also. Lara is my favorite player. I liked everything he did in the crease even if he just defend a ball.

Shakib's dedication and concentration impress me a lot. You might notice that he didn't raise his bat after he got his fifty. He knew it's not enough and he was not satisfied with that. That's the attitude makes him different from other BD players.

So, is there any more records, or have I named them all? I got another idea for a thread like this before the SA series.
