Noboborsho Trophy
The following is a completely hypothetical scenario and is incorporated in this thread so that the readers can have some fun. Resemblance to any future real life event is purely coincidental (although it would be freakin amazing and just enhance my awesomeness).
The BCB announced 13-member squads yesterday for the upcoming Noboborsho Trophy, to be held during the week of April 14, 2009. National team skipper Mohammad Ashraful is expected to lead the Bangla-Shobuj team while vice-captain Mashrafe Mortaza will take charge of Bangla-Laal. The Bangla-Shonali team, comprised of top domestic performers of the recently concluded domestic season, will be led by national team discard and highest run-scorer in NCL ’08, Tushar Imran. The tournament will also host an overseas guest side and the ICL franchise- Dhaka Warriors, have been invited to participate as the 4th team. They will represent the Bangla-Rupali team and will be led by ex-Bangladesh captain and currently banned cricketer Habibul Bashar. In an interview with a Dhaka daily, Bashar could not hide his enthusiasm to take part in the event and claimed, “This tournament will unite the Bangladesh cricket fraternity once again and increase camaraderie, competitiveness and most importantly, enthusiasm among the players as well as the fans”. He also added with a smile, “I believe we have a good chance to win because of our experience in the ICL and our great team-chemistry, although nothing compares to playing international cricket”.
The highly anticipated One-day tournament will mark the end of this year’s domestic season. It will also act as the last chance for players to impress the selectors before the national team squad is announced for Bangladesh’s tour of West Indies later in the month.
Bangla-Shobuj Tamim Iqbal, Imrul Kayes, Shamsur Rahman, Mohammad Ashraful(capt.), Shakib Al Hasan, Mushfiqur Rahim(wk), Mahmudullah Riyad, Nadif Chowdhury, Nasir Hossain, Sajedul Islam, Abdur Razzak, Shahadat Hossain, Mahbubul Alam Robin.
Bangla-Laal Nafis Iqbal, Junaed Siddique, Rajin Saleh, Rokibul Hasan, Naeem Islam, Mehrab Hossain, Marshall Ayub, Nazmul Hossain Milon, Sahagir Hossain Pavel(wk), Mashrafe Mortaza(capt.), Nazmul Hossain, Enamul Haque, Syed Rasel.
Bangla-Shonali Javed Omar, Nazmus Sadat, Jahurul Islam, Nasiruddin Faruque, Tushar Imran(capt.), Faisal Hossain, Farhad Hossain, Khaled Mashud(wk), Sohrawordi Shuvo, Ziaur Rahman, Nabil Samad, Shubhashish Roy, Tarez Aziz.
Bangla-Rupali Shahriar Nafees, Nazimuddin, Aftab Ahmed, Alok Kapali, Habibul Bashar(capt.), Mahbubul Karim, Dhiman Ghosh(wk), Farhad Reza, Mohammad Rafique, Mosharraf Hossain, Taposh Baishya, Mohammad Sharif, Monjurul Islam.

Laal will kick everyone's rear upside down. Too strong on bowling, batting. That Milon is enough for everyone. However, if a player is injured then they are in big trouble cause there is no replacement.
Shonali is overall the weakest link. Rupali, their pace bowling is weaker than any club team.

Bangla Rupali = Dhaka Warriors, I like
And yes, Laal would kick everyone's puny buttocks everyday.
Seriously, we should have this kind of tournaments a few times a year in reality. Good for the competition.

good stuff...lets see if ash can triumph over mash...whats their head to head record? 4-0 to mash so far?
so is DW considered the overseas team? and looks as though BCB has invited DW rather than DW joining up? did BCB ask and get permission from their master BCCI? and i am surprised BCCI allowed such an obvious breach of their authority. this noboborsho tournament could destroy the whole of indian cricket for decades to come!

Hypothetically speaking on hypothetical thread, this hypothetical tournament needs to be a 4 day long affair, not 50 overs.
Sadat is not sadat anymore after the injury. Just like Talha.

He probably have not recovered from that shoulder problem. In the last match, he was sent to bat at #9 and he retired hurt after playing 8 balls.

Hypothetically speaking, why not have the whole package? 4-day affair, followed by one day series where each team faces each other and top 2 plays the final, and finally the big bash 20-20 bonanza, where your boys Milon and Nazmus will be very effective
In that case, we would have to increase the squad size to 16. Suggestions anyone?

I full package among four teams will result in too many matches and will exhaust the players before an important tour.
My suggestion would be to reduce the number of teams to three which will ensure better quality teams and thus a more competitive league.

Well as long as we have the top players facing each other routinely. India does it and we should look at doing it too. Another one of those threads where it proves that the fan's brain > the BCB's.

I tried to equate the teams out like-for-like.. Tamim-Nafis, Imrul-Junaed, Ashraful-Rokibul, Shakib-Naeem, Nadif-Milon, Razzak-Rasel, Shahadat-Enamul, Nasir-Marshall, Riyad-Mehrab, Shamsur-Rajin. I know Sajidul-Mashrafe is a bad trade-off but then again, so is Mushfiq-Pavel. Shobuj has the flair of Tamim, Ashraful and spin duo Shakib, Razzak while Laal has the class of Junaed, Rokibul and economy of Mashrafe, Rasel. Although, I will agree that watching the oozing class of Nafis and Junaed Open together gives me a horrible fetish. Shame they are both so inconsistent..

Good Idea- we will invite the Rupali team only for the 20-20 event

ICL lost all kind of respectabilty after doing nothing on match fixing and now ball temparing. Today just before the start of the match they showed Azhar Mahmud temparing the ball agaienst the Chennai team. ICL even did not investigate and allow Mahmud. Remember even all powerful BCCI could not save Sachin from the punishment due to ball temparing. It became a fashion in BCB to blame everything on BCCI. I would rather BCCI rule ICC than ACB or ECB. Because the way we are playing our right to play would have been gone if ACB or ECB ruled

So far, we have 2 for Laal - 1 for Shobuj. Is there any way I can add a poll to this thread? Moderators please add a poll with the 4 team options and people can vote on who they think will win.

We should also start a Irani trophy type tournament. Say Rajshahi become the NCL champion, they should have a series against Rest of Bangladesh.
Rajshahi Team:
Zunaed Siddique, Jahurul Islam, Farhad Hossain, Naeem Islam, Anisur Rahman, Mushfiqur Rahim, Khaled Mashud, Sajidul Islam, Suhrawadi Shuvo, Alamgir Kabir, Subashis Roy.
Rest of Bangladesh:
Tamim Iqbal, Imrul Kayes, Rokibul Hasan, Ashraful,Mehrab Hossain Jr, Sakib Al Hasan, Saghir Hossain, Abdur Razzak, Mashrafe Mortaza, Shahadat Hossain, Syed Rasel.
*Although Mushfiq, Sajid, and Subashis play for different teams in NCL, they are all born and brought up in Rajshahi. They should be allowed to play for their home division in this tourny.

খুব ভাল লাগলো। আইডিয়া গুলো সত্যিই ভালো। তবে রূপালীর সম্ভাবনা নিয়ে আশার কিছু দেখি না। হাবা যেখানে অন্ধকার সেখানে।
