86 of Ash against SA at WC. Bigger stage. Backs on the wall. Hunting down #1. 100% in control all through out the innings. Bouncers were dealth properly (Chicky sixes). Away ground.

Ashraful's 100 against Australia. Very well timed and very very calculated innings against the best in the business.

Sakib's 92* would be the 2nd in my list.

Ash's 94 off 52 was a completely lucky innings. He got an unbelievable life at 0 (ball dropped on top of the stump; but bells were not dislodged) and then he was hitting blindly. Was fun to watch. When he was at the crease, even scoring that 392 also seemed possible.

I did not see Ash's World cup innings. So, no comment on that. But if I remember correctly, after seeing the highlights, my feeling was 'he is lucky'. He was playing those innovative but risky shots and he could have been out at any time.

Also, I can remember a Pilot's innings against India that broght us within 11 runs of winning. We won in the next match. It was only a 50; but was feeling the confidence.

took all that into consideration, everyone has his opinion.

my opinion is this (in order) with explanations:

1) sakib 92* and ash 94

sakib's came with a win, against arguably two of the best spinners in world, and with immense pressure. team was also 11-3 when he came in chasing 148 and we know that modest chases are often the toughest.

however, ash's also gets in simply due to the artistic brutality of it all. it wasn't a sehwag-esque campaign, it was more creative and eloquent. had it been of 70 balls, then sakib would have easily run away with top honors, but 94 off 52 is something tendulkar has never done, and even jayasuriya and afridi on rare occaisions. pressure wise, there might have been some due to the previous innings which is forever etched in our minds.

2) ash's 100

spanked pigeon around, toppled a world #1, chased a big total with a less than perfect start.

3) ash's 87 vs SA

big stage, big match, big innings. had BD been fighting for a semi-final spot (regardless of whether we got it or not) this might pip sakib's innings. but alas, there wasn't much more pressure than usual. maybe a couple million more viewers on TV as it was the world cup, but i don't count that as much.

4) sakib's 108

this was also a mammoth innings in the bangladeshi perspective. it was sakib's coming of age as the supreme figure in our cricket. a rabbit pulled out of a hat.

5) alok's 115

it was absolute class and domination. even ishant sharma wasn't spared. ultimately meaningless and came with a big L, but for a moment, we had an excellent chance of winning (damn those drops by reza and riyad) against our favorite opponents.

I was debating. Now thinking back that was confidence builder for the English team to win back Ashes. lol.

Beating #1 as a minnow, at the time what was the odds? Anyone remember?

Ash should get a medal from the ECB.
The odd was something like 25:1.

Dear Ash-aad,
At home and away makes a big difference. Yes, we were 11/3 down and Murali-Mendis yet to unleash, but the target was not much. Those knocks by Ash has made others belief that they can do that too. In my preference, Shakib-Aloks innings come after those two of Ash. Waiting for Shakib to unleash against Windies.

Not an Ash fan. But nothing could beat that 100 against the best in foreign condition after getting the beating of life in the previous tests and ODI by the english when we are talking about ODI
But I am a white dress fan. For me, Nafees Iqbal's back to wall 100 is the best just because it was not the slowest (?, did Golla beat it, ) but a back to wall innings rarely seen by our batsman in tests.

i'm not saying you're wrong. i'm just putting my perspective on what is quite a subjective matter.

there are just too many indicators of what constitutes a "good innings".

one could also say that ash's 100 and 94 were powerful in that thats basically what kept him in the team for years. his 87 doesn't have the similar feeling (at least amongst fans).

Now I know why ashraful is the way he is. The chap goes in youtube and searches for videos with his name and when he sees video compilations like this on him it makes him think he is a superstar. He is glamorized beyond words. If he is a 6 in real life these videos make him out to be a 20 out of 10.

Not sure which one is the best as I haven't seen Sakib's innings yet but I know this. It does show the character. It takes a lot of heart to perform under pressure specially after a heartbreaking loss against Zim. Also when you need to win with a bonus point. Winning against Aus when noone really counted you is nice, really nice. But it was something bonus and Bd had nothing to lose. To win when you really need is something I am really proud about in this game.

well voted for Ashraful's 100 against Aus & Sakib's recent 92*....

as much as I support shakib nowadays and criticise Ash, the 100 against Aus would still be the best innings in the context of that match.... but I can totally see that repeating... but this time its gonna be Shakib Al Hasan....

Ash's 94 vs ENG was freakish, great exhibition of talent which even left M Nicholas speechless.

Didn't watch Shakib's innings yet

I'd have to rate Ash's 100 against Australia at Cardiff the best so far.
offcourse all those others mentioned are greats innng too, but that was to me, the top of the list.
Winning knock of century against the mighty all-conquering world champions in a tough english condition is truely amazing feat.

Ash's 94 of 52 was a freak show, only expected of Ash.

Sakib's knock today was amazing nonetheless.

Ash's 94 off 52 was way too much ঝরে বক... it shouldn't really count. It was exciting, yes... but was it a good batting display? Not to mention the freakish first ball that bounced off the bails without dislodging them. His innings against SA and AU were way better.

Shakib's 92 of 69. Why? Came to the crease at 11-3, with the unbelievable pressure that a win will not just cut it, win within 24.5 overs is what's required. If it was 20-20 match I would say it would've been simpler because you have only one target, but when you come to crease having 2 targets it can play tricks in your mind......but he definitely conquered that and conquered SL. What an inning!!!

I would still keep Ash's 100 in Cardiff for:

1. The opponent was Aus, No 1 Team
2. Away match
3. It needed some audacity to dream of winning as BD was fairly new in world cricket
4. It was a Century
5. Ausies are always specially vocal against BD test status, that victory has closed many ausi mounths for ever.

Ash's 100 still my fav pick - Sri Lanka we can win against these days, but Australia back in 2005? Man I should've put a thousand bucks on that game.

Shakib's 92 comes second.

1. This one by Sakib. As he stayed till the end against great attack in a curtailed match.
2. Pilot. For what it meant to BD cricket.
3. Ash 100
4. Ash 87 ( I rank it fourth simply because the bowlers earned the victory later and there were other notable contributions with bat in that game - Aftab and Mash )

Shakib's 92 trumps Ash's 100 but only marginally so. Asaad has explained it well. I'd add that if people think we haven't improved, just look at this survey. How many years did we wait for a batter to play a big innings? Now we take it for granted. Yesterday, I went to bed thinking if Ash clicks only then we have hope. Now I know we have another match winner. When the ICL guys come back (it will happen), we'll have a nice pool of players to strengthen the side.
