Default Please swallow your pride and take out the ban

For the last couple of months, I was searching for an answer. Why the players joined ICL, are termed as traitors? And why are they banned?

Is it only because BCCI wants us to think and act that way?
BCB neither had any policy in place nor adopted any preventive measures to stop the inevitable. They reacted in the harshest manner only when it happened in order to hide their rots.

The supreme controlling authority for cricket, ICC has not imposed any ban on the players joining ICL. They, however, have adopted a very confusing stance by not accepting or rejecting ICL.

What wrong Habibul Bashar and his team have done?
They played cricket; represented Dhaka; earned reputation for the country. On the very first outing, they ranked 5th position. Presented the first ever century in the history of ICL. Drew the attention of all critics, including Tony Grieg and Ian Chappell, the most vocal critics against lower ranking teams.

Their outstanding performance in ICL is opening the doors of international markets for other Bangladeshi players.Recent invitation from Kolkata league could be one such example.

The Players joined ICL were groomed through a process for last couple of years. We lost them only when it was time to get the results of the hard work. Why did we loose them? They did not opt, not to play for the country. ICL did not stop them from playing for the country. We banned them.

We also have to focus on the point as to why these players chose to join ICL compromising their future cricketing career. No doubt the big bucks were a big contributing factor. But we will do injustice if we don’t consider other hidden factors. Lack of respect shown to players from BCB, lack of job security and internal politics. Over and above, some of the senior players must have de-motivated these young kids concealing few facts.

Think of a team combination:

Tamim Iqbal
Shahriar Nafees (Zunaid is no match to Nafees)
Aftab Ahmed (There no better player than him at this position)
Mohammad Ashraful
Sakib Al Hasan (Captain)
Raqibul Hasan
Mushfiqur Rahim (WK / Vice Captain)
Naeem Islam / Alok Kapali
Mashrafe Mortaza
Nazmul Hossain
Rubel Hossain

Doesn’t it look lethal?
Then what are we waiting for?
I am urging to BCB. Please swallow your pride and take out the ban. At least, do it for the sake of the better cause: future of Bangladesh cricket.

Shakib, Ashraful, Mashrafe and Tamim, we know for certain were offered a tremendous payment package to join the ICL, its unfortunate but the case is that joining ICL causes you to not be able to play for your country, it should not be that way but thats how it is. Knowing this these above mentionned players chose not to go and jepordize their international careers, they wanted to represent their country. However some of the players you mentionned in your squad did not feel that, I dont care what "other" "unknown" problem they had the bottom line is that they did not feel the same way like the others. So now if you bring them back to quickly what message would that send to the ones that decided to not go? their sacrifice was not all worth it. They will feel let down, besides we now have a good side and I dont have time now but there are so many problems I could mention associated with players like Kapali, Dhiman(who I believe was the biggest loss), Shahriar and Aftab that now I would not want them to be part of our strong developing side.

Pls, don't bring these dhaka warior jokers again.
Past is past, now we have to focus with this present team.
They have to improve & once improved we will win more often.

'Go_ Bangladesh', I am not only urging BCB to bring them back but also open door for other players to play for ICL, IPL or wherever they want without compromising the National schedules. It is to be mentioned here that ICL has clearly indicated that it would give the national interest 1st priority and let the players play for the national team any time they are assigned.

We just gave Sri Lanka the BEATING of their lives (regardless of the result).

What makes YOU think we need them?

I don't understand why we must still talk about it.

They are gone. Boohoo. We aren't hurt in any way.

We don't need Aftab's one match of 40 runs in 100 matches played.

We don't need Shahriar Nafees' minnow-bashing batting, and the idiotic pokes at anything outside leg that got him out EVERY match.

We don't need Dhiman Ghosh's arrogance. It can be contagious ... and the last thing we need is the BD team to be a group of cocky individuals. The team WILL fall apart. He wasn't that great of an athlete, anyways. Sure, he might have been a bit better at keeping, but we have to work with what we have. Mushy WILL be a tremendous keeper, mark my words. His batting isn't even in question.

We have the most fabulous bowling line-up of recent times. Those bowlers who left ... good riddance, I say. Stay away.

Bashar, I have no bad feelings towards. He wouldn't make the team under any circumstances anyways.

ONLY person you can debate that we need is Rafique ... but hey, he retired. CASE CLOSED.

Man, most of what I said has been said OVER AND OVER again. The ICL cricketers are history. BD WILL move forward without them.

2009 will be a year to remember in BD cricket. Our team (who understand the meaning of playing for the National Team) will climb the mountain of all that is glorious.

I wouldn't call it lethal, but its nice. However, our team has in my opinion played pretty well since they left. If the ban is ever lifted, they will have to earn their way back on team.

regardless of how you see T20, it is the future of cricket and we can make a name by making it to the semis or doing better in the world cup this year.

The experience gained in ICL will be a big plus if we lift the ban and let nafeess, aftab, alok, dhiman and musharof hussain into the squad. They went through a professional structure and solid coaching in the ICL and they can bring that back to the national team.

I know we have no choice until BCCI settles this issue but if the rumors are true about ICL ban being lifted soon internationally these guys can only improve the team. It would force our current top order to pick up their game knowing that replacements are right around the corner. Nafees is not only one of the better batsman to come out of BD but also captain material as well.

Whatever makes BD stronger and more competitive, I'm all for. If not, we always have plan B which is to keep Ash the captain till the day he retires sometime in the next 10 to 15 years and take pride in moral victories.

Its only a matter of time before T20 takes over as a significant international form and becomes an olympic event. I'm not sure why BCB isn't scheduling more T20s for us to prepare for the June world cup

Very sensible and calculated speech, Reaz.
May be we do not need any of the ICL players, may be they all are sh**. But the point is, the door should be open, because neither ICC nor ICL does forbid you to select ICL players for the national team. There is no point worshiping the BCCI.

I still miss Aftab, he will be fabulous in a 20/20 game. Hopefully the feud between the ICL and BCCI will be resolved this month end. BCCI cannot continue bullying the cricket world, I am sure that ICC will have some guts to make a decision. If IPL and all the other 20/20 competitions(e.g. Stanford) elsewhere are legal, why are they penalizing ICL and its players so shamelessly. It al boils down to money and power by the Shameless BCCI.

that is basically the same team that was getting beaten before they left. bangladesh, espescially, shakib have stood up without them and nearly beat new zealand in a test match.

it would be nice to have them but i think that the ones from the icl coming in are just as good as the ones we have now.

as they showed their back to BD cricket (by saying so and not taking permission from their employer BCB before signing to earn more $$), we should show them our back too if it is not possible to kick their *** (for humanitarian ground)

you know what stuff BCB and BCCI.. if they can't control their player that's their problem why we fan have to suffer for this? Players should be allowed to play for other international league as long they are available to play for their country it shouldn't be matter at all..

I thought not to comment on these ICL idiots but can’t resist myself as it seems this ICL incident was a shocker and still hard to accept for some of our traumatized BD FANS.

"Where there is Unity, there is always victory" - Publilius Syrus quotes (Roman author, 1st century B.C.).

With those talented, proud and selfish players, BD team lacked Unity (as evident in AUS tour 08).

This CASE is closed and we FANS shall not have any heart for those who didn’t think about us (Bangladesh)!!!

If the ban is lifted.

I will only take Aftab back if he can bat for 100 balls in ODI and 200+ balls in test on regular basis.

I will only take Shahriar Nafees back if he stops his jaru shot

I will only take Dhiman back if someone can make him understand
Quote:
until the day you die you have not done enough for your country
Only those three are special. You can't have both Aftab and Nazeem in one team so we can forget about Nazeem. Musharraf is good for T20 no good for test or ODI. Rest including Alok can retire early since they have made so much money.

I refuse to swallow the nation's pride. There's no way they're coming back, even if we wanted them to - the BCB is not going to let them since their reputation is at stake. They're gone for good.

You guys are blaming the ICL players of treason and other stupid accusations... is it a crime to earn a living through some dignity when your national team doesnt respect you, gives you the attitude that you're not wanted? I read somewhere that when the players where offered the contract, they contacted BCB and asked for advice, BCB told them that " we have a lot of bench strength, you can go if you want, just tell us in advance"...what kind of cricket board does that to its players... they should've been trying to convince them not to take up the offers, but they made fun of them and that was the last straw for the players. They were humiliated, disrespected and unwanted, what do you want them to do in a situation like that? hide their inner sufferings and continue to play?

Its easy to talk from a distance, give a thought about what the circumstances were at that time, i think 90% of people in this forum would've taken up the contracts if they were in the players shoes at that time... i know i would've.
