His father, Mehmood Khan Pathan - a muezzin who calls the faithful to prayer - had to apologise to the mosque committee in Vadodara on behalf of his sons.

Luckily the club was just 15 minutes walk from the mosque, as Pathan's father acknowledges he did not have "money for their bus fare" and struggled to afford sports equipment.

This might sound silly but why are there so many Indian fast bowlers Zaheer etc. from the muslim community at this moment in time. A tradition of fast bowlers?
or is this just a fallacy/ not true.

Teenager Irfan Pathan in his first match for the senior Indian team made a dream start by having Daniel Payne lbw with his first delivery in their Test warm-up game against Queensland's Academy of Sport.
