still poor at death bowling but did really well early on, seems to be getting a bit of his groove back which is great. but yeah, they really need to find another pacer to take over from mash, he gets injured alot so no guarantee that he will have a lengthy career, besides you need an number of good pacers to fill spots not just one decent one. we'll do alright with mash, nazmul and rubel in one-dayers but in t20s and tests we really need to find some pacers.

পঞ্চাশটি বিশ্বকাপ খেললেও সেই দুঃখ ভুলবেন না মাশরাফিনোমান মোহাম্মদ, কলম্বো থেকে

দুই হাঁটুতে হয়েছে সাকুল্যে সাতটি অস্ত্রোপচার। যার প্রতিটিতেই হুমকির মুখে ছিল ক্যারিয়ার। ২০০৩ বিশ্বকাপে তো দক্ষিণ আফ্রিকায় গিয়েও ফিরে আসতে বাধ্য হয়েছিলেন ওই ইনজুরি-সখ্যে! তবু মাশরাফি বিন মর্তুজার ক্যারিয়ারের সবচেয়ে কষ্টের দিন এগুলোর কোনোটাই না! 'যে দিনটির কথা মনে করিয়ে দিলেন, সেটি ক্যারিয়ার না রে ভাই, আমার জীবনেরই সবচেয়ে কষ্টের দিন। চাইলেও সেটি ভোলা সম্ভব না'_কলম্বোর তাজ সমুদ্র হোটেল লবিতে দাঁড়িয়ে যখন এমনটা বলছিলেন, অদূরে গর্জন করতে থাকা ভারত মহাসাগর থেকে এক ঝলক নীল রং যেন লেপ্টে গেল মাশরাফির চোখে-মুখে। বেদনায়! হতাশায়!
দিনটি ছিল ১৯ জানুয়ারি ২০১১। নিজ দেশে অনুষ্ঠেয় বিশ্বকাপের জন্য পরম প্রতীক্ষা শেষ হওয়ার এক মাস বাকি। পুরো বাংলাদেশে সাজ সাজ রব, বিয়েবাড়ির ব্যস্ততা। মাশরাফির ব্যস্ততা ইনজুরিকে আরেকবার হারিয়ে ক্রিকেট মাঠে ফেরার। রফিকুল আলমের নেতৃত্বে নির্বাচক কমিটি সেদিন ঘোষণা করলেন বাংলাদেশের বিশ্বকাপ স্কোয়াড। কী আশ্চর্য, মাশরাফিকে ছাড়াই! হ্যাঁ, ইনজুরির কারণে তখনো পূর্ণ মাত্রার অনুশীলন করছিলেন না নড়াইল এক্সপ্রেস। কিন্তু হাতে তো ৩০ দিন সময় ছিল। কিন্তু নির্বাচকরা যখন আর আস্থা রাখলেন না, নিজেকে ধরে রাখতে পারেননি মাশরাফি। গণমাধ্যমের সামনেই খুলে দিয়েছিলেন আবেগের বাঁধ। কাঁদতে কাঁদতে কেবল বলতে পেরেছিলেন, 'বাদ পড়ার জন্য আমি একেবারেই তৈরি ছিলাম না। ২৬ দিন আগে স্ক্র্যাচে ভর দিয়ে যখন এসেছিলাম, তখনো বলেছিলাম আমি বিশ্বকাপ খেলব। এখন আমি দুই-তিন স্টেপে বোলিং করছি। হাতে আরো এক মাস সময় ছিল। দুর্ভাগ্য, সেই সুযোগটা পেলাম না।'
সেটি দুর্ভাগ্য না অবিচার_এ নিয়ে ক্রিকেটমহলে প্রশ্ন ছিল। আমজনতার মাঝে তো আরো বেশি। মাশরাফির বাদ পড়ার প্রতিবাদে তাই হরতাল হয়েছে, কুশপুত্তলিকা দাহ করা হয়েছে কোচ-নির্বাচকদের। আরেকটি বিশ্বকাপের সামনে দাঁড়িয়ে সময়ের প্রবহমানতায় হৃদয়ের রক্তক্ষরণটা কি একটু কমেছে মাশরাফির? প্রশ্ন শেষ হওয়ার আগেই উত্তরটা দিয়ে দিলেন, 'কী যে বলেন! কোথায় ওয়ানডের বিশ্বকাপ আর কোথায় টি-টোয়েন্টির! আমিই তো এটি নিয়ে চারটি খেলে ফেলছি। লোকে বলবে, শচীন টেন্ডুলকার ছয়টি বিশ্বকাপ খেলেছে। মানে ওয়ানডের বিশ্বকাপ। কে টি-টোয়েন্টির কটি বিশ্বকাপ খেলেছে এটি কেউ মনে রাখবে না।' তার পরও গত বিশ্বকাপ হতাশার ক্ষতে প্রলেপ তো পড়ল! আবারও মাশরাফির দ্বিমত, 'আমি যদি আরো ৫০টি বিশ্বকাপও খেলি, ওই দুঃখ ভুলব না। এই যে টি-টোয়েন্টি বিশ্বকাপ খেলছি, হয়তো ২০১৫ ওয়ানডে বিশ্বকাপও খেলব। কিন্তু নিজের দেশে সত্যিকারের বিশ্বকাপ তো আর জীবনে খেলা হবে না।'
এই ওয়ানডের বিশ্বকাপের মঞ্চে নিজেকে তুলে ধরার আকাঙ্ক্ষা তাঁর বরাবরের। ২০০৩-এ ইনজুরির কারণে পারেননি। ২০০৭-এ যখন খেললেন, ভারতকে হারানোয় রাখলেন মূল ভূমিকা। এখনো সে জন্য ভারতীয় সাংবাদিকরা ঘুরঘুর করেন মাশরাফির পেছনে, যদি পোর্ট অব স্পেন ম্যাচ নিয়ে একটি 'কোট' পাওয়া যায়! এরপরই ২০১১-এর ওই দুঃস্বপ্ন। যে দুঃস্বপ্নের কথা ভুলে যেতে পারলেই বাঁচেন নড়াইল এক্সপ্রেস, 'আমি ওই কথা মনে করতে চাই না। মনে হলেই মাথা আউলা হয়ে যায়। আসলে যারা বাদ দিয়েছে, একেবারে চূড়ান্ত আঘাত করেছে আমাকে। তারা জানে, আমি এটি কোনোদিনই ভুলতে পারব না। আসলেও পারব না।' তাহলে কি নেপথ্যের কলকাঠিতে সেটি ছিল কোনো ষড়যন্ত্র? চোখের কপাট বন্ধ করে ভাবলেন কিছুক্ষণ। এরপর পেশাদারিত্বের খোলসে নিজেকে ঢুকিয়ে নিলেন সামলে। তবে কণ্ঠ বেয়ে অব্যক্ত গোঙানিটা বেরিয়ে এলো ঠিকই, 'বিশ্বকাপের পরের সিরিজেই কিন্তু আমাকে দলে নেওয়া হয়েছে। অথচ ওই সময়ের চেয়ে বিশ্বকাপের সময় আমি বেশি ফিট ছিলাম। তার পরও বলি, আমার কারো প্রতি কোনো রাগ নেই। ক্ষোভ নেই। রাগ-ক্ষোভ পুষে রেখে কী করব বলেন? তবে কষ্ট একটা আছে। চিরটাকালই থাকবে।'
আনন্দ হতে হতে ২০১১ বিশ্বকাপ মাশরাফির কাছে হয়ে গেছে আর্তনাদ! এরপর দুঃস্বপ্ন পার হওয়ার সাঁকো করেছেন সেই ক্রিকেটকেই। ক্রিকেটের গালিচায় জীবনযুদ্ধ জয়ের গল্পে নতুন অধ্যায়ের সংযোজনে আরেকটি বিশ্বকাপ তাই খেলছেন সবার প্রিয় 'পাগলা'! যদিও এ নিয়ে আলাদা রোমাঞ্চ-অনুপ্রেরণার প্রয়োজন বোধ করছেন না, 'আমি তো সব সময়ই আমার শতভাগ দেওয়ার চেষ্টা করি। সেটি যখন আমি নড়াইলে গিয়ে পাড়ার ক্রিকেট খেলি, তখনো। সে কারণে এই বিশ্বকাপে ভালো কিছু করার জন্য বাড়তি প্রেরণার দরকার নেই। আর ২০১১ বিশ্বকাপের পর আরেকটি বিশ্বকাপ? আবারও বলি, ওটির সঙ্গে এটির তুলনাই হয় না!'
কষ্টটা বোঝা যায় স্পষ্ট। ২০১১ বিশ্বকাপ স্কোয়াড থেকে বাদ পড়ার বঞ্চনা ভোলেননি। তবুও দলকে, দেশকে সেবা দিয়ে চলার ব্রতে দৃঢ়প্রতিজ্ঞ তিনি। ঝিনুকের মতো ভেতরে বিষের বালি নিয়ে নীরবে মুক্তা ফলিয়ে চলায় ক্লান্তিহীন। এই না হলে মাশরাফি!

The guy wasn't fit. The team had to be announced before the deadline, why do the other players have to suffer because of his personal interests? His reaction at the time was less than exemplary. I thought the issue was done and dusted, yet he has to whine about it more than a year later. Look at him downplay this T20 WC as if he's playing in it for free. Quit whining and stop bowling rubbish in the death overs, maybe then we'll win a match or two against Mongolia.

I know we won cuz of Tamim and Gazi and a group effort. But boy, Mashrafe bowled some impeccable line early to put pressure. Sure he got clobbered by Gayle in one over but it was HE who provided the first breakthrough.

Other than those 3-4 deliveries, Koushik bowled with good pace and serious venom during his first spell. He troubled the West Indian batsmen every time he ran in and was a bit unlucky not pick up a couple of more wickets. I haven't seen Koushik bowl this well in a long time and hope he can sustain this type of new ball intensity. Great to have him back and lets hope he stays injury free for good.

He still shouldn't bowl at death.

I never had so much fun or interest watching a Bangladeshi bowler. It was just great. Commentators were saying why is Gayle so calm today and not his usual self? Well that's cuz those balls were difficult to go at....he was trying to preserve his wicket.

Was terrific with the new ball as usual. For his sake, I just hope he retires from Tests. I'd much rather he focus on the shorter forms and last longer than having him play Tests as well and then having another severe injury. We desperately need him there so that our younger pacers such as Raju, Rubel and Shafiul can learn from him. An experienced pacer such as Mash is really important to our team since our pace attack is so young.
