Default Will it really happen??

during 2007 world cup, lot of people said that bangladesh will win the next world cup, the world cup in 2011. I didn't follow bangladesh cricket for a while, but I like to know what is your opinion. Thanks!

they better start winning some series....and they must do so NOW! or else, they'd enter world cup unprepared, unstructured, with no plans and aspiring for mediocrity. good question....but as much as i hate the Milton's saying, i must reiterate it: "Morning shows the day..."

i think if really some people said this they were dreaming too much.

i think bd are still improving and will improve more .

i think the new genaraon players like samsur shuvo, suhrawardi shuvo. mithun will make bangladesh improve another step. last time we could have won both the test and odi series against Srilanka but failed.

i think by 2 years we we will start winning some odi series and may win some test matches.

after 2011 with the intake some other generation players may be we will start winning more more more.

may be 2015 we will be semi final contenders .

and i am not willing to look at further ahead in the future

The world cup is a very different monster....

No SINGLE big World Cup win we had over the years was predictable...or imaginable....Not ONE

The world cup really opens a pandora's box...and every year there is a Dark Horse....Think from 1999-2009...The dark horses over the years, ZImbabwe, Kenya, Ireland, Canada. Hell....Kenya made it to the semis...did u see that coming?
...not in a million years

Right, so that was in africa in front of their home crowd...the time has come for BD in 2011

We are on the verge on breaking all hell lose....believe it...You have to believe to succeed.

It is possible only if players are as motivated as their poor fans.

I think the following goals are reasonable and attainable:

Test : (assuming the 2 test series' we are subject to)

For the immediate future, perform at least 1 solid draw in away tests against the lower rung (NZ, WI, PAK, SL, ENG) and respectable losses (no innings defeat) against the higher teams (AUS, SA, IND) and wins against ZIM (when they resume tests). For home games at least 1 win against the lower run and 1 solid draw against the higher teams. Whitewash against ZIM.

Beyond the current FTP (2011) : competitive in all series with regular wins

ODI :

Avoid Whitewashes in any series and win the home series'. Change G8 to G9.

World Cup:

in 2011, definitely reach the QF and aim for hte SF. In 2015 be considered a title contender.

T20 :

Aim for SF but have at least 1 win in the 2nd round. Look to be a contender begining with the next one in WI in April. I hope to see at least 4 or 5 of the boys (including Mash & Ash) have a performance that makes the new England P20 and IPL teams take notice in this world cup.

Other :

Find investors in Bangladesh Cricket, start distinguishing Test, ODI an T20 teams based on roles and fix Captain/Coach situation (either demand improvements of Ash/Siddons or settle on a future combo soon).

Edwards - Taylor combo meal will show how far we have advanced and were we stand from the 2003 trip. We all know how devastating Chandur Paul and Sarwan are at home soil. Add Gayle to the destroyer list. Winning world cup should not be our priority at this point. Winning a single test (against top eight teams) should be our long term goal. With the current team it is difficult cause we can't take 20 wickets as of yet. So short term goal should be drawing a test (with out the influence of weather like 2003).

Reality check.

Maybe 2015, but 2011 not so much. I do think we can make it to super 6/8 again and maybe quarterfinals. But anything after that is a stretch, and will require consistant hundreds from ashraful and sakib to be playing like he did before his injury.

Well the World Cup is only 2 years away and we have not made much progress from the end of the 2007 WC to now, except for the development of Shakib. To be honest, with the new format, I would just be glad to advance to the quarterfinals. But who knows, semi finals might not be that big of a reach. Oh and by the way, I love what JS is doing with the team. The results might currently not be too good but I think he is slowly developing a world power. We now have many match winners in our team. If we could get SN and Aftab back, it could really bolster our batting lineup. Aftab would be a great choice for #3 and SN could partner up with Tamim. We will have to wait and see on the whole ICL situation. But for the current team, I would say we are about 5 years away from CONSISTENT success.

Cool How to win WC

Few things have to happen:
1. Start winning in all formats, T20, ODI and tests. A side can never dream of winning WC if it can't win (or come close to winning) a single test. It shows player class.T20 is a great format to train on finishing a ODI.

2. Win 30% of ODIs,and more against sub-continental teams.

3. Hope bombs go off in a couple of host nations, then we're only left with 4 sub-continent teams. (how else would we stop Australia and SA?)

4. Somehow go to the final, beating India and Pakistan, then fluke the final.

My tip: For us to win it, Ash has to really improve, Mithun, Shuvo and Sakib all have to shine, need some other pacer to be leading wicket-taker in team and Mash being Mc-Grath like. I tip Shuvo and Sakib to be the main spinners in the team, and top ten in the world.
Maybe need Aftab.
