Default Windies Squad for 1st test v Bangladesh

Chris Gayle (c)
Adrian Barath
Ramnaresh Sarwan
Shivnarine Chanderpaul
Brendan Nash
Runako Morton
Narsingh Deonarine
Dwayne Bravo
Denesh Ramdin (vc, wk)
Jerome Taylor
Ravi Rampaul
Andrew Richardson
Suliemann Benn

Positives: Barath and Rampaul finally get the test call up they deserved ages ago and they have seen the light as far as Lionel Baker is concerned.

Negatives: Benn is still there and what the hell is Morton doing back in a test squad against a team full of spinners? Fidel Edwards is being rested after an injury sustained in the 20/20 WC.

So apart from Fidel it is a full strength lineup. I think they may regret their decision not to replace him with another express paceman as Richardson is fast-medium.

Apparently they are worried about his technique (he plays across his front pad too much). This is a fair point, but Runako Morton has the exact same flaw and is 6 years older.

Ah well, it's not a bad squad, our selectors are capable of much worse than that.

Is there any Island-Island politics involve in selecting Runako over Lendl?

I don't think so tbh, the selectors are rewarding Morton for his domestic form (he scored 1000 runs in our FC competition including 2 double hundreds).

The only member of this squad who could owe his place to politics/friendship with the captain is Suliemann Benn who has been extremely unimpressive in all but one of his test matches so far. I fully expect Ash and co to take him to the cleaners and thus end his test career.

WIFAN - au contraire, I think BD batters will make Benn. He's bouncy spinners will lead to loads of catches - just watch I tells ya ...

Please no............ that is the last thing we need. Benn has to be kicked out of the side in time for the Champions Trophy and the tour of Australia so I am pinning my hopes of Tamim (if he survives the new ball), Ash and Shakib hitting him out of the attack. As soon as England realised he was not very good after all they started using their feet and completely dominated him.

The one thing I would say is don't try and sweep him too often because he is tall and darts them in full and at the stumps. Are there any suicidal sweepers in the Bangladesh squad?

WIFAN, you don't know our team quite as we do...

tamim is suspect against spin (hope he proves me wrong, cuz u can't score a test 100 without surviving against at least one decent spinner), ash will blast benn like this .2.44W (just ask johan botha), if sarwan can take 4-16 against us, what do you think benn is capable of? you don't need to turn the ball, you don't need to bowl a line or length, just don't bowl a no ball, and BD batters will give you the wicket if you're a spin bowler. in fact, in recent times we've done better agains the likes of murali and mendis as we have against vettori and no name spinners.

suicidal sweepers, not really. maybe some suicidal reverse sweepers. but we plenty of suicide cutters, pullers, hookers, drivers, and pokers. that should do enough to gurantee benn at least one 5 wicket haul in 4 innings.

WIFAN bro, I wish we could beat you in test, I know it would be bad for your heart, but it sure would make me so happy! If we, BD could win I would scream insanely at random people on the street all night until they arrest me and lock me up for 3 days !

was it raqibul hasan who kept playing the reverse sweep in the 20/20 WC? needs to keep that shot in his kit bag, was horrible at playing it. but agree, BD batsman don't need good bowling to get out.

i hope Gayle and Sarwan and Chanderpaul arent able to play the test matches. .I hope they get sick or are invovled in a bus crash or something. I could bet that each of them will score at Least one century each.

To be the best you got to beat the best. If not stop playing the sport and find something else.

Compulsive sweeper: Shakib. Mouth watering for Benn. WIFan is doing this .

I will be supporting Bangladesh for brief periods when Benn comes onto bowl, such is my distaste over his continued selection above far more worthy candidates who work really hard at their game and actually care about West Indies cricket.

He better not play those horrible lap sweep shots, in fact don't play accross the line at all, just hit him down the ground. I have a bad feeling this series is not going to be great for my blood pressure

and I will be there watching you getting arrested :P

well I can't analysis cricket like most of you guys but sorry no offense to WIFAN, I don't count WI to be a very good test playing nation, especially in recent years. Not that I am saying we are but after tremendous improvement we showed against SL and NZ, if WI were playing in Dhaka, there sure would have been an upset. Playing WI in WI grounds is a different story. I have no idea how the boyz will do but good luck to all.

Not a very nice way of putting it but I understand what you meant.
Bravo can finish the match off for us even in the absence of these star players.

No offence taken...

I can't see Bangladesh bowling us out twice at any point tbh with Sarwan being the leading test run scorer this year, Gayle batting better than ever during his captaincy and Shiv being the great batsman that he is. Nash is just as obdurate as Shiv with less scoring shots at his disposal and Dwayne Bravo is back to further strenghten the batting that won us the Wisden trophy back (if only for a short time).

But on the other hand it is going to be hard for us to bowl your guys out as well given that the pitches are apparently going to be slow and low with very little movement for the pacers. As I have already discussed, our specialist spinner is not up to the task so we are going to have to rely on Taylor to get back his form and Rampaul to have a good start to his career.

I'm pretty sure West Indies will win tbh, but I think Bangladesh may well draw one of the tests. If you remember last time the tail kept on wagging, resulting in 2 centuries. We could see something similar again as we are not great at bowling to the lower order.

i think , according to consistency and overall experience and tactics, both are same type of team. Though i think our bowling attack is far more superior than West indies.specially our spinner : sakib-enam jr-mahmudullah can give the hard time, wish nayeem was there

if we can get gayle-sarwan and chanderpaul out, when team total less than 100 runs, west indies will be wrapped in 150 runs. Its a three man team, rest are just audience

our side is kinda team effort, though in batting we have to depend on tamim, rokib, mushfiq and ashraful
and bowling---shahadat, sakib, and mashrafe

hmm not really sure about that bro..lets compare taylor vs. mash..taylor averages a 35 in tests while mash averages a 41..rampaul averages a 35 in ODI's while shahadat who is supposed to be stronger in tests averages only a 43..rubel is still very unproven..only shakib is much much better than benn..shakib averages a 31 with the ball compared to benn who averages a laughable 49..now we know why WIFAN wants him out of the team lol..overall West Indies is a much better team than us is tests..I'm just hoping that we just give a good fight and hopefully learn from this series

What an irony!
Here we have a West Indian who wants one of his bowler to be beaten the cr@p out of him by the Bangladeshi batsmen.

And then there are us,trying to tell him how cr@p we are!

Instead of taking him to the cleaners, we'd make his day.
I'm afraid thats what the track record says about us.
