New FTP likely to hurt us.
The Future Tour Programme of International Cricket Council may arrive as a complete disaster for Bangladesh as it contained only 36 Tests and 51 ODIs in its eight-year tenure.
As per the new rule of the ICC the next FTP will have duration of eight years instead of the current six years and the draft FTP of 2012-2020 sent to the different cricket boards awarded 36 Tests and 51 ODIs to Bangladesh over a 97-month period.
The new FTP starts from May 2012. The draft FTP contained 19 series for the Tigers with seven away and 12 at home. The current FTP has nine away and 15 home series.
In the present FTP that started from 2006 and finishes in 2012 contained 39 Tests and 68 ODIs for Bangladesh and the draft FTP certainly can be dubbed ‘a tragedy’. The ICC in its bid to make a balanced cricketing atmosphere initially thought of introducing a two-tier Test infrastructure but moved back due to strong opposition to the proposal. Now the ruling body of world cricket has come up with the plan of increasing the FTP duration but providing lesser slots to a country like Bangladesh.
The draft FTP if implemented will have an adverse effect on Bangladesh as it will deprive the BCB of a lot of earnings and the cricketers will also be left out of the international arena for most of the year. The revenue receipts of BCB will come down to half compared to the current earnings. The BCB will have to struggle on and off the field.
No official of BCB was eager to comment on the issue. One official, requesting anonymity, said it is the responsibility of the Cricket Operations Committee to convince the ICC of the effects of the proposed FTP and it will be a hard task.
The current FTP and the draft FTP of 2012 definitely reveal the struggling time of Bangladesh in the international cricket arena and a hard time is looming.

We have nothing to do rather playing well and bound ICC to allow us to play more test match. It was supposed to happen.

Well its not like we deserve to with our performance. Our players should take motivation from this and start to play consistently and start winning.

First of all, we need a BCB management who has the love for cricket, not money (for their own good), period.

well its kind of hard to argue against something like this specially because our players never bring their A game when needed. this is nothing out of this 36 tests i wouldn't be surprise if teams like Eng Aus starts to cancel the away tours. until our team starts performing consistently things like this will never change.

have they published the new FTP yet??
lets see how many tests WI, NZ, SL, and PAK get. my guess is less than IND, AUS, ENG, and RSA.
we have to forge stronger alliances with the aforementioned 4 boards. the other 4 are not trustworthy for our development. NZ plays almost as few tests as we do, good thing them and WI are beatable teams for us, BCB should arrange several series outside the FTP.
no need to panic...yet. this can become the start of something very good for us.

bulls eye!
I have been feeling so disgusted with the team's performance that I have been almost consistently staying away from BC cricket forums. Who can blame ICC.

nothing to complain about Test matches but the number of ODI's could have been more !
I guess, BCB can organize some 3 nations or 4 nations Tournament in BD to have more ODI matches.

This is just a draft FTP.
IF we can manage to put a few good shows and somehow manage to win a couple of games here and there, i'm sure the board can also manage to get a few extra tours here and there.
Just like NZ invited us in the Dec'07 tour right after we kicked india's back in the world cup.
8 years is a long long time. Let's finish remaining 3 years of the current FTP first.

good performance will = more matches. it's all about revenue, if BD can get to a level where the other test nations believe they'll earn a decent amount of revenue then they'll want to play more matches.

As long as we have brainless opportunistic morons as BCB officials we have to face lot more adverse situations.

BD should be thankful that the test status was not revoked as feared. i had much prefered the two tier system, more matches would have been arranged.
Anyhow, they remain as full members of the ICC. With BD not playing so many matches, BCB should arrange more domestic competitions, also try to get ome players toplay in the Ranji Trophy.

and more tours where they play top domestic sides, it may look strange or bad that a test nation is going on tours only to play domestic teams but it's something that could really benefit the BD national team (especially if they aren't playing much cricket).

Many tours are usually arranged outside the FTP anyways so I don't think we have to worry too much about the lack of matches. I'm just glad we still have our test status cause frankly, we don't deserve it one bit.

Its harsh, but better than the 'mooted' two-tier system... I think that would have left Bangladesh out of the loop totally.

What a relief. I thought they will take away our test status. I am glad that the two tier system did not fly either.

Serves us right. A two tier system wouldve been better for enhancing competition with the bottom 5, of which Eng/Pak NZ and WI are actually VERY good. Anyways, I hope we can get more tours squeezed out with NZ and WI.... we should look for incremental improvements to our top level cricket rather than trashy one hit wonders vs Aus, SA and Ind.
