Default What should we do with our FB resources?

Now that Maria's been screaming down 65 mph short balls, RBX seems under prepared (albeit his three wickets in the first inning of the first game) and the management has no confidence in Robin?

We can pack the side with spinners and win against this WI side, but anyone else will thrash the sheeyat out of us if our quickies can't deliver. So what do we do in the long run?

Wait for Masrafee to get better. Play Rubel in more first-class games. Find Malcolm Marshall, and get him to have a look at Shahadat's action.

I still think both Shahadat and Rubel got talents, they just don't have the focus to produce 6 good deliveries in each over. I think the reason is those guys are not participating in enough number of FC matches per year, where they would develop their focus.

Also, the captain matters a lot when pacers lose confidence. Sakib, being new to the job, can't help them much here.

Ian, are you saying late Malcolm Marshall. Or are you trying to say Shahadat has no hope in the future.

Well Mashrafe isn't that bad. Robin is also usable. But these two...they need to work on their L&L real bad. They concede so many extras and Shahadat was burlesque in the field today.

He died of colon cancer at the age of 41, back in 1999.

Shahadhat Hossain looked completely harmless in this tour against this C grade West indian batting line up and lacks penetration to trouble openers with new ball. You expect your premeir fast bowler to tear through(READ atleast trouble) the opponent batting with aggresive stuff irrespective of how the pitch behaves . You DONT get that from Rajib. He always will bowl his 'quota' of three 'amake maaaar' deliveries in one over.

His aggresive nature stops in his throat with that annnoying grunt . Whats the point of grunting if you cant bowl 140KPH+ FFS.

Yes , He got a 6 for against SA , but will you risk putting in a couple of pounds for this guy to actually get another 4 wickets in an innings unless some batsmen are in the mood to SELL their wickets . I wouldn't.

Robin is a much better prospect ,IMO :

- Can Swing the ball BOTH ways
- Speed is similar to Rajib
- Most Importantly , DOESN'T grunt
- and doesn't Drop Catches.

robin and mash probably should be the backbone of the test pace attack with rubel in the team but being groomed to be a future leading strike bowler. with mash out i'm not sure who the 3rd pacer should be, i'd definitely go with robin and rubel and idk maybe sajidul but then last time i checked his line and length wasn't too good either, unless he has improved but when he toured with the A team in ireland and england the commentators said good things about him. hopefully in a year or two subashis roy will be alright, he apparently has some pace and looks up to mcgrath so i'd expect that he wants to bowl good line and length and for someone to have a bit of pace and have the line and length mentality can only be a good thing imo.

I'd grunt if i tried to bowl at 120 KPH. Shoaib akhter would grunt if he tried to bowl at 150 KPH. Grunting just shows that you are giving it your all...that "All" is not the same for everyone. you can't ask Shahadat to do something he is not capable of. He has been below average lately; I won;t have a problem if he is dropped in favoir of robin, rasel or whoever. but all this nonsense talk about his grunt is just irrelevant.

Valid concerns Asif, but lets cross that bridge when we get there, shall we? In the meantime, lets "accept the good" ...

RBX is very young and within the context of Bangladeshi pacers, especially after Champaka arrived in the picture, is doing fine. With more experience and exposure, something he's sure to get under different conditions and against different teams, he'll become quite lethal by 25.

In addition to RBX and other pacers in the team, I hope Champaka also gets to work with Talha, Shubhashish, Suman, Rasel and Sajid as potentially front line guys, as well as guys like Milion, Farhad, Zia, Shahzada and Tapash as shorter version seamers with good hitting ability.

Spin bowling wise, I think Riyad should build on his emergence as a strike bowler and focus there 100%. Then anything from his bat will be a positive bonus. Amongst slow armers not in the team ATM, Nayeem, Alok, Mosha Rubel, Shaju Datta and Marshall Ayub should be further developed carefully with adequate A team exposure.

I think the future is pretty bright under our new Skipper. HaBa was gutless and Ash brainless, but Shakib has plenty of both AND a deep love of the game as exemplified not only by the unbridled joy with which he plays the game, but also through the demonstrable speed with which he's is fitting into the role ordained for him. Heck, he has engineered one victory already right through his baptism by fire, and led from the front while doing it. By the time this tour ends, we'll have plenty more.

Hopefully our selectors and other matobbor's who couldn't play at this level themselves, won't get in his way by flaunting their ineptitude and idiocy. Continuing that tradition won't be as easy for them anymore because in Shakib Al Hasan we have finally found our first great Captain. He is assertive without being a megalomaniac, intelligent with a practical and tactical mind, and supremely talented with an uncanny will to learn. He also knows Bangladeshi players, both in and out of the team, well enough to gauge their individual strengths and attributes, issues and potential. He listens but does what HE thinks is right. So I'm looking forward to his decisive influence throughout the fabric of our cricket culture ...

One thing more notable here that we are bowling against West Indies, who can make look the fiercest fast bowlers of the world pretty ordinary at moments.

Is Rubel still bowling consistanly over 90mph in this Test series like the T-20 WC? Or just like Mashrafe, Shahadat that was a brief phase..

Also, I have rarely seen a young Bangladeshi fast bowler gaining pace over the years. Usually bowlers of other countries gain pace from the age of 18 to around 23-24, after that the speed goes down but is balanced out by variation and good thinking.

How come every thread ending up in bashing this or that player (or the management)?! Have you all lost motivation for constructive discussion?!

IMO, Shahadat was the best fast bowler for longer version Bangladesh produced to date, question is how he regressed like this? Also, how we have not been able to build up other good Test prospects like Sajidul and Rubel ?
