Default What Exactly is Shakib's name?

With Raquibul in this side now, its gotten confusing, I've seen many names listed for Shakib, but which is correct?

Shakib al Hasan
Saquibul Hasan
Saquibul al Hasan

I use the first one as of now...

So lets not sweat it!

Any Bengali name can spelled loads of different ways in English. For instance mine can be variously spelled Aritro, Aritra, Oritro, Oreetro, Arithro, Arithra, Orithro, Oreethro, Areetra, or Areetro.

But what gets me is the contrast between Saqib-ul-Hasan and Shakib Al Hasan.

Surely that middle vowel sound is completely different from one to the other.

What I heard is that BD version of using arabic article "Al" is "ul". Shakib correctly uses the article as "Al Hasan". It would be nice if someone who knows arabic well can clear this.

Actually, his real name is...ahem..Marauder.

He had to take up a psuodo-name since the first one sounded too flamboyant. He remains true to his real name, none the less...that Marauder.

I think he should be called Shokibul Hachchan. Gives us Bangladeshis the added advantage at pronouncing it.

Anyone saw the Achmad joke by Jeff?

Haha yes mahbub you are right. The Arabic word "Al" means "The".
For example "Allah" where "Al" means "The" and "Lah" means "God". Literally translating to "The God"
And yes it is true that in BD we somehow started using "Ul" and I have no clue what that is.

There are other changes that we also make based on our Bangladeshi pronunciation.
For example "Abd-Ar- Rahman" which literally translates to "Servant-Of the- Lord" is pronounced by us Bangladeshis as "Abd-Ur-Rahman". The worst part is when it becomes "Rahim shaheb" because then you are calling him Mr.God.

Same goes for "Karim shaheb" by the way. Which is an equally common name.

Sorry folks I got side-tracked. Hope it wasn't too boring to read.

Credit goes to Jamie for fixing his backlift and improving his pulling.
