বর্ষসেরাবিশ্বসের� � তো দেশসেরা হবেনইশেষ হয়ে গেল ২০১১। আর সব বছরের মতো যথারীতি এ বছরও ক্রীড়াঙ্গন আর ক্রীড়াবিদদের কীর্তির গল্পে ভরপুর। বছর শেষে আমরা ফিরে দেখতে চেয়েছি এই সেরাদের মধ্যেও সেরা ছিলেন কারা। দেশের ক্রীড়াঙ্গনে উত্তরটা খুব কঠিন ছিল না। বিশ্বসেরা অলরাউন্ডার সাকিব আল হাসান অন্যদের প্রায় ধরাছোঁয়ার বাইরে। আন্তর্জাতিক ক্রীড়াঙ্গন অনেক বড়, তাতে কীর্তিমানও অনেক বেশি। সেখানে তাই কাজটা খুব সহজ নয়। তবু বছরজুড়ে অসাধারণ ফুটবলশৈলী দেখানো এবং বার্সেলোনাকে একের পর এক শিরোপা জেতানো ফুটবলার লিওনেল মেসি সবাইকে ছাপিয়ে বছরের এক নম্বর। মাসুদ পারভেজ
একে তো বিশ্বকাপের মতো বড় আসর তার ওপর ওই আসরের সবচেয়ে কমবয়সী অধিনায়ক তিনি। দুয়ে মিলে নেতৃত্বের ভার তাঁর তরুণ কাঁধ কতটা বইতে পারবে, তা নিয়ে সংশয় থাকা বিচিত্র ছিল না। কিন্তু বছরের শুরুতে বিশ্বকাপের আগে দেখা গেল, সংশয়বাদীদের মন কথার মুগ্ধতায় কেড়ে নিয়েছেন সাকিব আল হাসান, 'ইফ ইউ আর গুড এনাফ, ইউ আর ওল্ড এনাফ।'

আজ ২০১১ সালের শেষদিনে এসে দেখা যাচ্ছে, বাংলাদেশ দলের সাবেক অধিনায়কের পারফরম্যান্সও মুগ্ধতা ধরে রাখার জন্য 'গুড এনাফ'। ব্যাটে-বলে অন্যদের ছাড়িয়ে যাওয়া পারফরম্যান্সে এ বছর অর্জনের হারানো মালাও আবার গলায় পরেছেন তিনি। আইসিসির ওয়ানডে র‌্যাংকিংয়ে সেরা অলরাউন্ডারের আসনটা ফিরে পেয়েছেন আবার। সেই সঙ্গে বছরের শেষ প্রান্তে এসে অর্জনের আরেকটি নতুন চূড়াও ছুঁয়েছেন। প্রথম বাংলাদেশি হিসেবে র‌্যাংকিংয়ে টেস্ট অলরাউন্ডারের শ্রেষ্ঠত্বও যে এখন সাকিবেরই দখলে। এটা খুব সাধারণ একটি দলের হয়ে একজনের ক্রমাগত অসাধারণত্বে উত্তরণের গল্পই লিখে চলেছে কেবল। বছরজুড়ে একটি দলের অর্জনের ভাণ্ডার যখন শূন্য, তখন সাফল্যের রাঙা আলোয় নিজেকে প্রতিনিয়ত রাঙিয়ে তোলা সাকিবের নামটা উচ্চারিত হচ্ছে বিশ্বসেরাদের সঙ্গেই। বিশ্বকাপ ফুটবল এসে গেলে অনেক ফুটবলারেরই এমন শিরোনামের নিচে ঠাঁই হয়, 'ছোট দলের বড় তারকা'। ক্রিকেটে সাকিবও তেমনি বাংলাদেশের মতো ছোট দলের বিশ্বমঞ্চ আলোকিত করা বড় তারকা। এ বছর বাংলাদেশের হয়ে আর কেই-বা দেশকে নিয়ে এত উঁচুতে চলে যেতে পেরেছেন? একটি ছাড়া আর কোনো নামই বোধহয় আপনার মাথায়ও আসছে না! আসবে কী করে! বর্ষসেরা বাংলাদেশি ক্রীড়াবিদ হওয়ার জন্য সাকিব আল হাসানই যে এক এবং অদ্বিতীয় প্রার্থী।

এ বছর অন্যদের আগের বছরের সাফল্যের ধারাবাহিকতা রক্ষার অক্ষমতার মাঝে তিনি সক্ষমতার উজ্জ্বল দৃষ্টান্ত সমুন্নত রেখেছেন আরো। কালের গর্ভে হারিয়ে যেতে থাকা বছরটি শুরুর আগে মাশরাফি বিন মুর্তজার ইনজুরিজনিত অনুপস্থিতিতে নিজেকে 'পারফরমার অধিনায়ক' হিসেবে প্রতিষ্ঠিত করে ফেলেছিলেন। এ কারণে বাংলাদেশ ক্রিকেট বোর্ডও (বিসিবি) 'অধিনায়ক করলে দলের সেরা পারফরমারকেই করা উচিত' তত্ত্বে আস্থা রেখে বিশ্বকাপের আগে পুরো ২০১১ সালের জন্যই অধিনায়ক বানিয়ে দেয় সাকিবকে। কিন্তু দল হিসেবে বাংলাদেশের ভুলে যাওয়ার মতো বছরটির শুরু বিশ্বকাপ ব্যর্থতা দিয়েই। সেখানে স্বাগতিকরা ইংল্যান্ডকে হারিয়েছিল ঠিক, কিন্তু ওয়েস্ট ইন্ডিজ ও দক্ষিণ আফ্রিকার সঙ্গে যথাক্রমে ৫৮ ও ৭৮ রানে অলআউট হওয়ার লজ্জায় সে সাফল্য ঢাকা পড়ে গিয়েছিল অনেকখানি। সেখানেই শেষ নয়। ব্যর্থতার ষোলোকলা পূর্ণ হয় জুলাই-আগস্টের জিম্বাবুয়ে সফরে। সেখানে তিন দিনের প্রস্তুতি ম্যাচ থেকে শুরু করে একমাত্র টেস্ট এবং ওয়ানডে সিরিজে হারের সঙ্গে মাঠের বাইরের আরো নানা বিতর্ক যোগ হওয়ায় নেতৃত্বের সিংহাসনচ্যুত হন সাকিব। অধিনায়কত্ব হারানোর পার্শ্বপ্রতিক্রি� �ায় তাঁর পারফরম্যান্সে ভাটার টান পড়লেও আশ্চর্য হওয়ার কিছু ছিল না। কিন্তু এখানেও তিনি ব্যতিক্রম। ব্যাটে-বলে এমন পারফরম করে যেতে থাকলেন যে বছরের শেষে বলতেই হচ্ছে, সাকিব মুকুট হারিয়েছেন তবে বাংলাদেশ ক্রিকেটের রাজাই থেকে গেছেন!

সে রাজ্যে পারফরম্যান্সের দিক থেকে সবাই তাঁর পদানত। ২০১০ সালে ওয়ানডেতে বাংলাদেশের হয়ে সবচেয়ে বেশি রান যাঁর ব্যাটে, সেই ইমরুল কায়েস ২০১১-র শেষে এসে নিজেকে হারিয়ে খুঁজছেন। প্রতিপক্ষের ওপর ছড়ি ঘোরানো ব্যাটিংয়ে যে তামিম ইকবাল ২০১০ সালে লর্ডস এবং ওল্ড ট্র্যাফোর্ড টেস্টে সেঞ্চুরির জন্য উইজডেন অ্যালামানাকের বর্ষসেরা ক্রিকেটারদের একজন হয়ে যান, ২০১১ তাঁর ব্যাটিং ভাগ্যে দুর্দশাই লিখেছে বেশি। অথচ সাকিব আগে যেমন ছিলেন, তেমনই আছেন। হয় ব্যাটে নয়তো বলে দলের দাবি সব সময় মিটিয়েই চলেছেন। তাই পরিসংখ্যানের নির্মোহ বিচারও সাকিবকেই রাখছে অন্য সবার চেয়ে ওপরে। কী টেস্ট, কী ওয়ানডে_সবখানেই তিনি ব্যাটে-বলে বাংলাদেশের সেরা। পাঁচ টেস্টে একটি সেঞ্চুরি ও চারটি ফিফটিসহ ৫০.১১ গড়ে করেছেন সর্বোচ্চ ৪৫১ রান। সমানসংখ্যক টেস্টে ২৮.৬১ গড়ে ২১ উইকেট নেওয়া সাকিব ওয়ানডেতেও ২০১১ সালে বাংলাদেশের সফলতম। ২০ ওয়ানডেতে ৫৬৪ রান ও ২৫ উইকেট।
আর অলরাউন্ড পারফরম্যান্সের এমনই মহিমা যে জাতীয় দলের নেতৃত্ব হারানোর বছরটা তাঁকে হারানো কিছু ফিরিয়েও দিয়েছে। বিশ্বকাপ ব্যর্থতার পর গত এপ্রিলে দেশের মাটিতে অস্ট্রেলিয়া সিরিজেও সেভাবে নিজেকে মেলে ধরতে পারছিলেন না। অথচ ওই সিরিজে বিস্ফোরক ব্যাটিং আর দুর্দান্ত বোলিং দিয়ে আইসিসির ওয়ানডের র‌্যাংকিংয়ে সাকিবের শীর্ষ অলরাউন্ডারের আসন টলিয়ে দিয়েছিলেন শেন ওয়াটসন। নেতৃত্ব হারানোর পরের পারফরম্যান্সেই সেটি ফিরল। দেশের মাঠে ওয়েস্ট ইন্ডিজের বিপক্ষে সিরিজে মুশফিকুর রহিমের নেতৃত্বের শুরু আর ওই সিরিজের শেষ ওয়ানডেতে স্পিন ঘূর্ণিতে নাকাল করলেন প্রতিপক্ষকে। চট্টগ্রামে ক্যারিবীয়দের বিশ্বকাপের ৫৮ রানের লজ্জা ফিরিয়ে দেওয়ার ম্যাচে ১৬ রানে ৪ উইকেট নিয়ে ম্যাচের সেরা। এ বছর বাংলাদেশের শেষ টেস্টেও তাই। মিরপুরে পাকিস্তানের বিপক্ষে করলেন দ্বিতীয় টেস্ট সেঞ্চুরি। সেই সঙ্গে বোলিংয়ে ৮২ রানে ৬ উইকেট নেওয়ায় আরেকটি 'প্রথম' গৌরবের নাগাল পায় বাংলাদেশ। কোনো টেস্টে সেঞ্চুরির পাশাপাশি পাঁচ বা ততোধিক উইকেট নেওয়া প্রথম বাংলাদেশিও এখন তিনিই। এমন পারফরম্যান্সের হাত ধরেই জ্যাক কালিসের দীর্ঘ রাজত্বের অবসান ঘটিয়ে বনে গেলেন র‌্যাংকিংয়ের সেরা টেস্ট অলরাউন্ডারও। এ মাহেন্দ্রক্ষণেও কিন্তু বাংলাদেশের টেস্ট সামর্থ্য নিয়ে প্রশ্ন ওঠা থেমে ছিল না। থেমে নেই এখনো। অস্ট্রেলিয়া-ভারতের বক্সিং ডে টেস্টের সময়ও ইয়ান চ্যাপেলকে বারবার বাংলাদেশের টেস্ট খেলা নিয়ে নাক সিঁটকাতে দেখা গেছে। এই যখন অবস্থা, তখন সাকিব বিশ্বসেরা হয়ে একা তুলে ধরছেন বাংলাদেশ ক্রিকেটের ঝাণ্ডা। একটু মনে করিয়ে দেওয়া যাক যে ইন্ডিয়ান প্রিমিয়ার লিগে (আইপিএল) নিয়মিত মাঠে নামার সুযোগ পাওয়া প্রথম বাংলাদেশিও তিনিই। এর আগে যে বা যাঁরা গিয়েছেন, বলতে গেলে ডাগ আউটে বসে থাকাই ছিল তাঁদের নিয়তি। নিয়তির এ লিখন পাল্টে কলকাতা নাইট রাইডার্সের হয়ে এমনকি ম্যাচের মোড় ঘুরিয়ে দেওয়া সময়েও বল হাতে পেয়েছেন সাকিব। আন্তর্জাতিক ক্রিকেটে যিনি ছিলেন বড় একা, যেখানে বিশেষ করে টেস্ট ক্রিকেটে বাংলাদেশ এ বছরও পারেনি 'অরুণোদয়ের তরুণ দল' হয়ে উঠতে, সেখানে সাকিব নামের এক নিঃসঙ্গ তরুণ একরকম একাই হাল ধরে রেখে নিজ দেশের ক্রিকেটের বিজ্ঞাপন করে চলেছেন। বয়স নিতান্তই কম। কিন্তু 'গুড এনাফ' পারফরম্যান্স যে তাঁকে 'ওল্ড এনাফ' বলেই মনে করিয়ে আসছে!

He is the Only Bangladeshi playing in IPL. Dont you think our prestige is also associated with him ? If he does good then its good for his countrymen and his country. If you wanna bash IPL, bash it, but dont belittle our golden boy's contribution. He may be playing for money, but who doesn't ? But if he performs well, then it will our advantage too.

Shakib posed a choice between IPL and County... a big choice; county will help him grow in tests, IPL will only grow his income. If more Bangladeshis went to county that would be certainly better for the country's cricket then IPL exposure. It appears Shakib is disinclined to go to county, which I think he should do and emphasize county rather than IPL. As is said, Have fun with what you do and the Universe will take care of the rest. County will make him grow. Grow in Cricket ... and the money will follow him.

The problem with Shakib's playing in County is the FTP Schedule. Last time, Shakib missed FC matches due to Zim series, he only managed to play few T20s. This time, we are going to play Asia Cup, Pak Series in April, Zim Series in Aug. So, prolly he will miss County FC cricket too. So, no point to go there and play T20 again. Moreover, WCCC did not retain him. So, cant really blame him. What i feel is he needs a good agent who will look after his best possible team in County or Australian League and manage his time slot. He still new in terms of managing all these things. He needs a good guidance.

Thanks Naim Bhai. Does he have an agent now? Do the BD players usually have an agent?
I have a feeling that playing with WCCC helped him in tests a lot. He personally should not worry about logistics and have his manager do it.

This is actually what other foreign players do. In abroad, its very hard to get a job without the help of Job agent. Its not that popular in Subcontinent. Remember, while appointing coach, BCB had to talk with agent's first before they can sit with the main person. I dont think our players' follow such thing, and its very costly though. May be after BPL success, many agents will come forward to our players and sign them as their client.

The other day I was talking to a prachin ponthee, (you know the ones still believe in having Pilot and Minhazul Abedin Nannu in BD team because of their "Experience") when the topic of best bowler ever for Bangladesh came. I was surprised to hear that he believes that Md Rofique is by far the best bowler of Bangladesh by miles. I had to show him the two averages of Shakib ( 96 wkts @ 31.36) and Rofique (100 wkts @ 40.76) to demonstrate that they are from two different leagues.

With such obvious achievement missing from our public awareness I thought a little bit of research to find Shakibs place in the international scene as a bowler would help set the record straight. I was pleasantly surprised that I was almost as ignorant as the "pracheen ponthee".

It seems that Shakib's test average is better than Vettori ( 33.67), Harbhajan ( 32.22) or Abdul Qadir ( 32.80). I wonder how many of us before reading this considered him a bowler at par with these greats.

In ODI too Shakib (122 wkts @ 28.68 with an economy of 4.26) is better than Bhajji (259 wkts @ 33.4 with an economy of 4.3).

The interesting point to ponder is that when India full of super stars celebrates the likes of Bhajji, does Bangladesh with mediocrity as a standard, give Shakib his due as a bowler?

It troubles me immensely to see our fourth grade sports journalists always playing an upper hand over him. Or for that matter when our public sides with Lotus Kamal when Shakib our captain is made to kneel down publicly by him for defending the team he lead.

I am not a big fan of blind adoration but by God our Shakib makes me want to. I feel we need to immediately bring him back as our captain and support him with the space so that he can "inspire" the rest to do more than what they thought was possible.

Hasib bhai,it's a good post & research u did here.
I always felt the same that Sakib is so underrated internationally ,although when ever Bajji or Vettori come to bowl the commentators go crazy.
internationally he is well known as an alrounder but his bowling skills are not fairly rated.

But I wld disagree abt making him capt again, too much pressure on one guy in un fair.
