Shakib Al Hasan is a game-changer.

Whether one treats this as a work of marketing spin-doctors (yours truly used to think it was cheesy till this game), Shakib did change gears and add momentum, through his brief stay at the wicket on Friday evening.

India weren't actually cruising and neither were Bangladesh. At the time Tamim Iqbal got out in the 34th over till which point they were batting at 4.5 per over, they needed 8.3 to win the game against the world champions. Cut to the point when Shakib was controversially given out, Bangladesh were batting at 5.3 per over and needing 66 runs from the last 8.1 overs. The dream became gettable; the game completely changed.

Simplicity too is a Shakib thing. When asked what he had planned when he strode out to bat (amidst huge cheers, as is the norm these days), Shakib simply wanted to repeat a game he had played two weeks ago.

"I thought that if I can play the way I played against Dhaka [Gladiators], it would win us the game," he said after the game.

On that occasion for the Khulna Royal Bengals in the BPL semifinal, Shakib got his team very close and played a masterful Twenty20 innings. When he was given out stumped by India skipper MS Dhoni off Ravichandran Ashwin in the 42nd over, he must have had that sinking feeling.

But he's Shakib, doesn't lose hope.

"Once you are dismissed, there's no tension but try to gee up the boys. I was confident like the others because Mushfiq is in good form.

"We have to win games regularly and not occasionally. Then everyone will rate us properly. If we don't win, you are not counted. If we can win big games, our playing quality will improve," he said.

He was also there, scoring runs, five years ago when Bangladesh won that World Cup 2007 game against India in Port of Spain. This time though, Bangladesh are in with a chance to get into a tournament final.

"I think we should all have belief to win. We batted well in both games and we have improvement. It is possible to play well in the next game and we'll have a good chance to win. I think from now on nobody can say that we didn't do well in the Asia Cup.

"It was a team win; 4-5 players have to perform for us to win. We have to increase the number of contributors from 1-2 to 4-5. If we can improve these small things, we can get much better in the days to come," he explained.

The team, of course, should take one look at Shakib and improve themselves at every level. It's not in every team that you get a game-changer who strides out to bat like he owns the place.

Isam's articles seem to have become increasingly effusive in their praise of Shakib since that test match against the west indies last year where he took 5 wickets and scored a 50 on the same day =p (Not that he isn't right!)

And to be fair, Shak does own Mirpur SBNS. InshAllah if all goes well with his batting it won't be long before he passes 2000 runs on this ground.

দুই ঈদের জামাতের পর কোলাকুলির দৃশ্যটা বাংলাদেশে সবচেয়ে বেশি বোধ হয় দেখা যায় এমন মুহূর্ত এলেই। যখন ক্রিকেট মাঠে কোনো পরাশক্তিকে পদানত করেন ক্রিকেটাররা। শচীন টেন্ডুলকারের শততম সেঞ্চুরির আনন্দ বিষাদের ছাইয়ে ঢেকে দেওয়া জয়ের পরও সেই ভ্রাতৃত্ববোধের চিরন্তন ছবি। বন্ধু-শত্রুর বিভেদ ভুলে কোলাকুলি, মিরপুর শেরে বাংলা স্টেডিয়ামের ভেতরে-বাইরে, সবখানে। বাংলাদেশের ক্রিকেটে এশিয়া কাপ-পূর্ববর্তী নানা অদ্ভুতুড়ে কাণ্ডের ঝাপটা গায়ে মাখা গাজী আশরাফকেও দেখা গেল বেশ আবেগাপ্লুত। কোলাকুলি করতে করতে বাংলাদেশের প্রথম ওয়ানডে অধিনায়ক বলেও ফেললেন, 'এমন একটা জয় ক্রিকেট-সংশ্লিষ্ট সবার র‌্যাংকিং বাড়িয়ে দেয়।'

বর্তমান বিশ্ব চ্যাম্পিয়নদের ৫ উইকেটে হারিয়ে আপাতত অন্য উচ্চতায় ঠাঁই নেওয়া বাংলাদেশ ক্রিকেটের এ ছবি কি অন্যলোক থেকে দেখতে পেলেন মানজারুল ইসলাম রানা? পাঁচ বছর আগে এ ১৬ মার্চেই মোটরসাইকেল দুর্ঘটনায় অনন্ত-অসীমের বাসিন্দা হয়ে যান বাংলাদেশ দলের সাবেক এ অলরাউন্ডার। ২০০৭ বিশ্বকাপে ভারতের বিপক্ষে নিজেদের প্রথম ম্যাচের আগের দিনই পাওয়া সে শোক সংবাদকে শক্তিতে পরিণত করে মাঠে জয় তুলে নিয়েছিলেন ক্রিকেটাররা। পাঁচ বছর পর রানার মৃত্যু দিনে আবারও ভারতের বিপক্ষে নামার আগে বাংলাদেশ দলের স্লোগানই হয়ে গিয়েছিল 'শোক হোক শক্তি'। সে শক্তিতে আরেকবার 'ভারত বধ' করে এসে সংবাদ সম্মেলনের শুরুতেই অধিনায়ক মুশফিকুর রহিম বললেন, 'এ জয়টা আমরা রানা ভাইয়ের স্মৃতির উদ্দেশে উৎসর্গ করছি।'

বিয়োগ-ব্যথা থেকে আসা অনুপ্রেরণায় পাওয়া জয়ের পর অনেক কিছু ভুলে যেতেও রাজি ৩১ বলে ৪৯ রানের ইনিংসের জন্য ম্যাচ সেরার পুরস্কার পাওয়া সাকিব আল হাসান। তাঁর বিপক্ষে দেওয়া থার্ড আম্পায়ারের স্টাম্পিংয়ের সিদ্ধান্ত নিয়ে প্রকাশ্যেই অসন্তোষ প্রকাশ করেছেন মুশফিক, 'বেনিফিট ডাউট সব সময় ব্যাটসম্যানের পক্ষে যায়। এটা সাকিব না হয়ে অন্য বড় ব্যাটসম্যান হলে হয়তোবা তাদের পক্ষেই যেত।' পাশে বসা সাকিব একটু পরেই হাসতে হাসতে বললেন, 'জিতে গেছি তো। জিতে গেলে সব ঠিক।' আর জিতে গেলে তাঁদের আনন্দের প্রকাশটা বেশির ভাগ সময় সেভাবেই হয়, যেভাবে হলে সাকিব গলা খাঁকারি দিতে দিতে বলতে পারেন, 'এমন চিল্লান চিল্লাইছি যে গলা বসে গেছে।'

পাঁচ বছর আগে ত্রিনিদাদের পোর্ট অব স্পেনে বিশ্বকাপের ম্যাচে ভারতকে হারানোতেও ব্যাট হাতে সাকিবের ফিফটি দারুণ অবদান রেখেছিল। শুরুতে তামিম ইকবালের ঝোড়ো ফিফটির কথা না বললেও চলছে। আর সেই ম্যাচের আরেক হাফ সেঞ্চুরিয়ান মুশফিক। কী আশ্চর্যের ব্যাপার, এবারও ভারত বধে তাঁরা তিনজনই জয়ের নায়ক। তামিমের ৭০, সাকিবের ঝোড়ো ব্যাটিং আর মুশফিকের ব্যাটে ততোধিক বিস্ফোরণ (২৫ বলে তিনটি করে ছক্কা আর বাউন্ডারিতে অপরাজিত ৪৬)। সাকিব 'আনুষ্ঠানিক' ম্যাচের সেরা হলেও অনেকের মতেই তাই মুশফিক 'অনানুষ্ঠানিক' ম্যান অব দ্য ম্যাচ; যদিও ত্রিনিদাদের সেই ম্যাচের আনন্দের সঙ্গে এ জয়ের আনন্দের ফারাক বের করতে পারেন না সাকিব, 'ওটা ছিল বিশ্বকাপের ম্যাচ। আমরা তখন দলে নতুন। ওটা অন্য ধরনের দল ছিল। তবে আমি সমানভাবেই উপভোগ করেছি। কারণ ওখানে যেমন চিল্লাইছি, এখানেও তেমনই চিল্লাইছি।'

এমন একটা জয়ের পর শচীন টেন্ডুলকারও বলে গেছেন যে বাংলাদেশ 'আন্ডার রেটেড' দল। অথচ এ ভারতই টেস্ট ক্রিকেটে পা রাখার পর বাংলাদেশকে কখনো নিজেদের মাঠে খেলতে আমন্ত্রণ জানায়নি। ভারতীয় এক সাংবাদিক এ নিয়ে প্রশ্ন করতেই তাই মুশফিক লুফে নিলেন, 'এমন নয় যে এই জয়ের পরই ভারতের আমাদের আমন্ত্রণ জানানো উচিত। আরো আগেই তাদের এটা করা উচিত ছিল। আরো দু-তিন বছর আগেই হওয়া উচিত ছিল।' একটা জবাব ম্যাচ শুরুর আগেও দিয়ে ফেলেছিলেন মুশফিক, 'টসের সময় রমিজ রাজা বলেছিলেন বাংলাদেশ তাদের সেরা খেলাটা পাকিস্তানের বিপক্ষেই খেলে ফেলেছে। আমি তাঁকে বলেছিলাম, যাঁরা এমন কথা বলেন, তাঁদের আসলে আয়নায় নিজের মুখটা দেখা উচিত।' কেউ কেউ অবশ্য ভারতীয় দলের দুর্বল বোলিংয়ের প্রসঙ্গ তুলে জয়ের আবেদনে খুঁত বের করতে চাইলেন; কিন্তু বাংলাদেশ অধিনায়ক সেটা মেনে নিয়েও বললেন, 'পাকিস্তান ও শ্রীলঙ্কার সঙ্গে তুলনা করলে ভারতের বোলিং কিছুটা দুর্বল। তবে আমাদের ব্যাটসম্যানদেরও কৃতিত্ব দিতে হবে। তারা খুব ভালো খেলেছে এবং ভারতীয় বোলারদের খুব ভালো সামলেছে।'

আর ভারতীয় ব্যাটসম্যানদের সামলেছেন কারা? শুনুন মুশফিকের মুখ থেকেই, 'এ উইকেটে বোলারদের জন্য রান আটকানো কঠিন। এটা ব্যাটসম্যানদের জন্য ট্রু উইকেট। রাজ ভাই (আবদুর রাজ্জাক) ও মাশরাফি ভাই অসাধারণ বোলিং করেছেন এ উইকেটে। তাঁরা যদি ২০-৩০টা রান বেশি দিতেন, তাহলে আমাদের জন্য কঠিন হয়ে যেত। ৩২০-৩০ হয়ে গেলে চেজ করা কঠিন হয়ে যেত। হ্যাটস অফ টু দেম।'

ঈদের জামাতের পরের দৃশ্য ফিরিয়ে এনে দলের সবাই-ই তো টুপি খোলা অভিনন্দনের দাবিদার!

At least someone is writing about him.. I found Isam very critical about Shakib too.. After throwing away his wicket against WI 2nd test Isam did criticize him a lot.. So I would say Isam is being neutral here...

Yeah me too... the best moment of today's match for me... The expression on their face was out of the world.. I think I watched that moment over and over again just the way I watch the Banglawash moment against NZ..

24 years old. 3500+ runs, 156 wickets in ODI's. If this guy keeps improving and working on his game there is every chance he will finish the game as one of the best ODI all rounders of all time. Definitely can score close to 10,000 runs and get over 300 wickets.

Kallis at 36 has close to 12,000 runs and 270 wickets. If Shakib plays for 12 more years, he ll definitely do better than Kallis.

Not possible as BD plays only 3/4 or series in a year ... But if we start to win matches like yesterday I think more countries will be willing to invite us for a series.. Let's see.. Allah bhorosha...

Shakib is taking our cricket to the next level and now others are stepping up.. trying their best to support him and at the same time trying to prove themselves at the world stage.. that is just great to see... Hope BD will not go back to the trend where they takes one step forward, then 2 steps backward..

Ah that is my fav player, Mashrafi Bin Mortaza. At pressure situation he makes some funny looks and at times does weird things. I think that's how he deal with pressure
