Shakib's attitude when he came to bat was pathetic. I do no mind what he does as a captain because he is still learning. But what he did, even just as a batsman, was a disgrace to the game itself.

sick of reading Shakib's excuses in the paper. Those of us who watched the game could see he didn't care for staying at the crease. He hit one shot that barely went over the extra cover fielder to the boundary. After that rash shot he should have realized how close he was to getting out. The next ball he tries to shuffle and send the delivery to the moon and misses. Still no sense prevailing in him about the dire situation the Team faced if he got out. What happened next? he again chased a wide delivery and nicked it to slips

Shakib wasn't motivated throughout the Test, you could tell from his body language, he hardly went up to his bowlers to encourage them. I think he wanted to lose on purpose as he didn't get the team he wanted, he's an arrogant person and does everything possible to prove a point. Another reason why he bowled less in the 1st day. This guy seriously is getting out of control, pull the leash.

temme what did the bowlers do right in the test match...hell i am not defending shak....but look at other players too...and srsly....a captain is as good as his team...you set up the best fields...yet we keep on sending half-volleys, and wide outside off stumps there to hit for fours through point or covers...there is little u can do....or in other words...look no further than whats happening with dhoni, or hell even what happened with ponting after retirement of mcgrath, warne....field placements mean nothing if ur bowlers cant execute them....and once u kno ur bowlers are crap, u try to do some damage control..thats what shak was doing....on other hand...yea, there is absolutely no excuse if way he got out...but also is there any excuse of whay ash, or mushfiq got out....we gotta realize this is a team game...we are just going overboard here with shakib...team fails, and its like shakib is to blame becuase he failed to motivate his players...hell u can motivate million times...but if ur fieldersd and bowelrs and batsmen are all lethargic, what else can u do

Team has it's faults and we should discuss that as well.

For me the captain comes first; if the captain displays such irresponsibility with both bat and ball, and add to that such body language and such poor bowling changes etc etc. What can you expect from the rest of the team? He was a perfect example of bad leadership in this test match and he needs to realize it in single shot. Otherwise, such arrogance is enough to destroy our cricket. No fan should support such arrogance for the interest of our cricket.

I still cannot lower our standard so much. Shakib may be arrogant, but surely he is not such a bad person. How can I think so negatively about my younger brothers?

The mentality of the whole team is questionable. How can you think that win is the only possible result to accept? Sometimes a well fought draw brings more honor then an easy win.
These boys are not right in their thinking patterns at all.

Even we played too many shots irresponsibly even for a win. Almost whole day was left. RRR was below 3. Keeping wickets in hands was the key.

Sakib nominated for ODI cricketer of the year award

Sakib al Hasan is the only cricketer from Bangladesh to have been nominated in any category for the International Cricket Council’s annual awards ceremony to be held in London on September 12. Sakib has been shortlisted for the one-day cricketer of the year category.

Last year Bangladesh had two cricketers nominated for an award at the ceremony with Tamim Iqbal making the list for the test cricketer of the year award while Shafiul Islam was nominated for the emerging player of the year award.

This is the third time that Sakib has been nominated for an ICC award

In 2006, he was nominated for the emerging player of the year award before featuring in the list of nominees for the Test player of the year in 2009.

The long-lists of nominations were made by a five-man ICC selection panel chaired by former West Indies captain and current chairman of the ICC Cricket Committee Clive Lloyd. The panel also includes former international players Mike Gatting of England, Danny Morrison of New Zealand, Paul Adams of South Africa and Pakistan’s Zaheer Abbas.

The awards will be given to the players based on their performances between August 11, 2010 and August 3, 2011.

During the period, Sakib played 17 ODI scoring 580 runs at an average of 38.66 with a highest score of 106 runs. He also took 29 wickets at an average of 24.34, making him one of the prime contenders for the award.

Meanwhile, Eight of England’s Ashes winners were nominated for the International Cricket Council Cricketer of the Year award in a ‘long list’ of candidates.

Andrew Strauss, the England captain, led the way and he was joined among the contenders by fellow opener Alastair Cook, who scored 766 runs at 127.66 during the 3-1 Test series win in Australia.

Also included in the 17-man list were England’s Jonathan Trott, Ian Bell, Stuart Broad, Graeme Swann, Chris Tremlett and James Anderson.

Australia had just the one nomination in either the Cricketer of the Year or Test Player of the Year categories—all-rounder Shane Watson.

Meanwhile, Trott was also one of five nominees for the People’s Choice Award—alongside India’s World Cup-winning skipper Mahendra Singh Dhoni, Sri Lanka’s Kumar Sangakkara, West Indies’ Chris Gayle and South Africa’s Hashim Amla—which will be chosen by fans from around the world.

The award-winners will be named at a ceremony in London on September 12.

If England win the ongoing third Test against India at Edgbaston they will rise to the top of the ICC’s Test Championship table and replace India at the summit of the five-day game.

India have just the three nominess for player of the year.

Sachin Tendulkar, Rahul Dravid and injured paceman Zaheer Khan are all contenders for the Sir Garfield Sobers award, while they are joined by bowlers Ishant Sharma and Harbhajan Singh in the Test category.

India won the World Cup on home soil in April and this is reflected in their seven nominations for the One-Day International Player of the Year award including captain Dhoni.

ওয়ানডে সিরিজটাও সহজ হবে না| তারিখ: ১১-০৮-২০১১

হারারে টেস্টটা যেদিন শেষ হলো, সেই রাতে বলতে গেলে ঘুমাতেই পারিনি। শেষ রাতে চোখটা একটু লেগেছিল, খুব ভোরে ঘুম ভেঙে গেল। তখনো বিশ্বাস হচ্ছিল না, টেস্টটা আমরা হেরে গেছি! আমার নিজের কাছে যেমন, তেমনি পুরো টিমের কাছেই এই টেস্ট একটা হতাশার নাম।
তবে পেশাদার ক্রিকেটারের জীবন এমন যে একটা হতাশা নিয়ে বেশিক্ষণ বসে থাকার সুযোগ নেই। ওয়ানডে সিরিজ শুরু হয়ে যাচ্ছে, টেস্টের হতাশা পেছনে ফেলে সেটি নিয়েই বেশি ভাবতে চাই এখন। ভাবছিও।
তবে এই টেস্টে আমরা যে ভুলগুলো করেছি, তা ভুলতে চাই না। আমি চাইব, অন্য খেলোয়াড়েরাও যেন তা না ভোলে। আমাদের তো দোষ আছেই, তবে এই টেস্টটির কথা যতই ভাবছি, ততই মনে হচ্ছে আমাদের প্রস্তুতিটা আসলে একদমই যথেষ্ট ছিল না। ১৪ মাস পর টেস্ট ম্যাচ খেললাম, আন্তর্জাতিক ক্রিকেটও তো তিন মাস পর। বিরতিটা অনেক লম্বা।
মাঝখানে আমি কাউন্টিতে একটা চার দিনের ম্যাচ খেলেছি। দলের বাকি খেলোয়াড়েরা প্রতিদ্বন্দ্বিতা� �ূলক কোনো ম্যাচই খেলেনি। একজন খেলোয়াড় খেলতে খেলতে শেখে। না খেলতে খেলতে ভুলে যায়। কন্ডিশনিং ক্যাম্প হয়েছে, শুনেছি ব্যাটিং-বোলিং প্র্যাকটিসও হয়েছে ১৫ দিনের মতো। কিন্তু টেস্ট ম্যাচের প্রস্তুতির জন্য আমাদের কিছু ভালো ম্যাচ খেলা প্রয়োজন ছিল। এই টেস্টের প্রতিটি দিনই তা অনুভব করেছি।
হারার পর এসব কথা অজুহাতের মতো শোনাতে পারে। যাঁরা সেভাবে ক্রিকেট খেলেননি, তাঁরা হয়তো মনে করবেন সারা দিন প্র্যাকটিস করলেই তো ভালো খেলা যায়। তবে যাঁরা খেলেছেন, তাঁরা ঠিকই প্র্যাকটিস আর ম্যাচ খেলার পার্থক্য বুঝতে পারবেন। ম্যাচে একজন ব্যাটসম্যান ৫০-১০০ করলে সেটি এক মাসের প্র্যাকটিসের চেয়েও বেশি কাজে আসে। বোলারদের ক্ষেত্রেও কথাটা সত্যি। ম্যাচে লম্বা স্পেল করলেই না নিজের ভালো-মন্দ বোঝা যায়।
আরেকটা ব্যাপার, গত অনেক দিন কিন্তু আমরা বাংলাদেশেই খেলেছি। এখানে উইকেট যতই ব্যাটিং-সহায়ক থাকুক, একটু পার্থক্য তো আছেই। ব্যাটসম্যান-বোলার সবাইকেই অ্যাডজাস্ট করতে হয়েছে। অনেক দিন প্রতিদ্বন্দ্বিতা� �ূলক ম্যাচ না খেলায় সেটিই আমরা পারিনি।
প্রথম দিন খেলার শুরুতেই যে রান আউটটা মিস হলো, এর পর থেকে আমরা আর কখনোই এগিয়ে যেতে পারিনি। আমরা একটু ব্যবধান কমিয়েছি তো ওরা আবার এগিয়ে গেছে। একটা দিন সকালে ঘুম ভেঙেছে দুশ্চিন্তা নিয়ে, আজ ভালো কিছু না হলে তো আরও পিছিয়ে পড়ব। শুধু তৃতীয় দিনের খেলার শেষ দিকে খুব তাড়াতাড়ি ওদের দ্বিতীয় ইনিংসের তিনটি উইকেট তুলে নেওয়ার পর আমরা একটু সমানে-সমান অবস্থায় আসতে পেরেছিলাম। শেষ দিনের ব্যাটিংটা ছিল খুব হতাশাজনক। অ্যাপ্লিকেশনের অভাব ছিল। তবে সেটির সঙ্গেও কিন্তু ভালো প্রস্তুতি না হওয়ার যোগ আছে। ম্যাচ-ট্যাচ না খেললে মাইন্ডসেটটাও ঠিক হয় না।
টেস্টের দুঃখটা তো মনে থাকবেই, তবে এখন আর এটি নিয়ে বেশি ভাবতে চাই না। ভেবে তো আর লাভ নেই। যা গেছে, তা আর ফিরিয়ে আনা যাবে না। এখন শুধু ওয়ানডে সিরিজেই ফোকাস করতে চাই। এটি জিততে পারলে টেস্টে হারার দুঃখটা তাও একটু কমবে। তবে এই সিরিজটাও অনেক কঠিন হবে বলেই আমার মনে হচ্ছে। ২০০৬ সালের পর আমরা জিম্বাবুয়ের কাছে সিরিজ হারিনি। বলতে গেলে সহজেই জিতেছি। এবার এত সহজ হবে না। জিম্বাবুয়ে খুব ভালো প্রস্তুতি নিয়েছে, সাফল্যের জন্য ক্ষুধার্তও হয়ে আছে। আমাদের সবাইকে তাই অনেক দায়িত্ব নিয়ে খেলতে হবে।
টেস্টে হারার পর দেশের মানুষের হতাশাটা অনুমান করতে পারছি। তাদের কথা ভেবে আমাদের আরও বেশি মন খারাপ হয়েছে। কারণ, আমরা তো জানি, সবাই আমাদের কাছে ভালো কিছু আশা করে। ওয়ানডে সিরিজে সেই হতাশা ভুলিয়ে দেবই, এই প্রতিশ্রুতি দিচ্ছি না। কারণ, খেলাটা ক্রিকেট, অনেক কিছুই হতে পারে। তবে একটা প্রতিশ্রুতি তো দিতেই পারি, আমরা নিজেদের উজাড় করে দিয়ে খেলব।
