Teams don't just get players because a player is good, teams tend to buy players they need to fulfill a slot in the team. Worcestershire bought Shakib because at the time they needed an AR in their team. If you look around the county circuit you will see they are a lot of somewhat established openers with 30+ average. Beside unlike IPL county teams can only play 1 overseas player as far as I know. So chances of getting a county contract is much slimmer comparing to say like IPL.

ছুটি তো ছুটিই। ব্যাট-বল থেকে যতটা সম্ভব দূরেই থাকার চেষ্টা করছেন। তবে এর মধ্যেও ইংলিশ কাউন্টিতে খেলার সম্ভাবনা উঁকি দিচ্ছে। মাথায় ঘুরছে নিজের শহর চট্টগ্রামে একটা ক্রিকেট একাডেমি করার পরিকল্পনা। কাল টেলিফোনে সেসব নিয়েই বললেন জাতীয় ক্রিকেট দলের সহ-অধিনায়ক তামিম ইকবাল

 ছুটি কেমন কাটছে?
তামিম ইকবাল: খুবই ভালো কাটছে। চট্টগ্রামে এসে দিন দশেক থাকার পরিকল্পনা থাকলেও এখন ভাবছি, এ মাসটাই থেকে যাব। বন্ধুবান্ধব আর পরিবারের সঙ্গে সময় কাটাচ্ছি। দেশের বাইরেও গিয়েছিলাম। গত ৩-৪ বছরের মধ্যে এত লম্বা সময় ধরে ফাঁকা ছিলাম না। সময়টা উপভোগ করছি।
 ব্যাট-বলের সঙ্গে কি একদমই যোগাযোগ নেই?
তামিম: তা বলতে পারেন। মাঝখানে ব্রাদার্সের হয়ে চট্টগ্রাম লিগে একটা ম্যাচ খেলেছি। নইলে ব্যাট-বল থেকে যতটা সম্ভব দূরে থাকার চেষ্টা করছি। ক্রিকেটারদের জীবনে মাঝেমধ্যে এ রকম সময় দরকার যে সে ব্যাট-বল নিয়ে ভাববে না। এসব চিন্তা মাথা থেকে ঝেড়ে ফেলবে। এখন সেই কাজটাই করছি। আগামী ৪ তারিখ থেকে যখন ক্যাম্প শুরু হবে, তখন আবার এসব নিয়ে ভাবব।
 ফিটনেস ধরে রাখার জন্য কিছু করছেন?
তামিম: হ্যাঁ, শুধু ওটাই করছি। জিম করছি নিয়মিত। অনেকে অনেক জায়গা থেকে খেলতে বলছে, সবাইকে না করে দিচ্ছি। জাতীয় দলের ক্যাম্প শুরুর আগ পর্যন্ত খেলাটেলা থেকে দূরে থাকতে চাই। এই সময়টা শুধুই ফ্রেন্ডস অ্যান্ড ফ্যামিলির। ৪ তারিখ থেকে আবার সব হবে।
 শ্রীলঙ্কা প্রিমিয়ার লিগে (এসপিএল) তো আপনারও নাম আছে। খেলতে যাবেন না?
তামিম: কীভাবে যাব? সামনে আমাদের জিম্বাবুয়ে সিরিজ, সেটার প্রস্তুতি শুরু হবে। এসপিএল খেলার সুযোগ তাই কম।
 আপনার সঙ্গে ওরা যোগাযোগ করেছে?
তামিম: বিশ্বকাপের সময় আমার এজেন্টের মাধ্যমে একটা চুক্তি সই করেছি। ২৫ হাজার ডলার দেবে বলেছিল খেললে। ওই পর্যন্তই। নতুন করে আর কেউ যোগাযোগ করেনি।
 শুনলাম, ইংলিশ কাউন্টির একটা ক্লাবও আপনার প্রতি আগ্রহী। ওখানে যাওয়ার সম্ভাবনা কতটুকু?
তামিম: ইংল্যান্ড থেকে আমার এজেন্ট জানতে চেয়েছে, আমি কাউন্টিতে খেলতে আগ্রহী কি না। আমি বলেছি আগ্রহী। সবকিছু ঠিক করে ও আমাকে আগামী ২-৩ দিনের মধ্যে জানাবে।
 ক্লাবের নাম কী?
তামিম: কোন ক্লাব বলতে পারব না। ক্লাবের নাম, ওরা আমাকে চার দিনের ম্যাচ নাকি টি-টোয়েন্টি না পুরো মৌসুমের জন্যই চায়, কখন যেতে হবে—এসবের কিছুই আমি এখনো জানি না। সব ঠিক করে এজেন্ট আমাকে জানাবে।
 চট্টগ্রামে একটা ক্রিকেট একাডেমি করবেন বলে শুনলাম...
তামিম: হ্যাঁ, আমার ইচ্ছা আছে এ রকম কিছু করার। ঢাকায় কয়েকটা বড় স্পনসরের সঙ্গে প্রাথমিক আলাপ হয়েছে। ওনারা বলেছেন আমি উদ্যোগ নিলে তারা আমাকে সাহায্য করবেন। এ ছাড়া এখানে বিভাগীয় ক্রীড়া সংস্থার কর্মকর্তাদের সঙ্গেও কথা বলেছি। একাডেমি করতে চাইলে ওনারা জায়গার ব্যবস্থা করে দেওয়ার আশ্বাস দিয়েছেন।
 খেলোয়াড়ি জীবনেই হঠাৎ একাডেমি করার চিন্তা এল কেন মাথায়?
তামিম: এটা আমার অনেক দিনের ইচ্ছা। একসময় চট্টগ্রাম থেকে অনেক ক্রিকেটার উঠে এসেছে। এখন আসছে না। চট্টগ্রামে অনেক ছেলে আছে যারা ভালো ক্রিকেট খেলে। তাদের এক জায়গায় এনে ভালোভাবে অনুশীলন করাতে পারলে চট্টগ্রাম থেকে আবার ভালো ভালো খেলোয়াড় উঠে আসবে বলে আমার বিশ্বাস। এ জন্য আমার পক্ষে সম্ভব সবকিছুই করব। তবে সবই এখনো প্রাথমিক পর্যায়ে।

Hard hitting opener Tamim Iqbal is likely to have a stint with an English county team, which is to be confirmed by an English agent today, the Wisden Cricketer of the Year told daily sun on Saturday.

“I was contacted by an UK agent who asked me whether I am interested in playing county cricket and I have decided to have a go at it,” said Tamim who is currently on vacation and is spending time with his family and friends in Chittagong.

“But the agent is yet to confirm major details. If all goes well, I am expecting a call tomorrow (Sunday),” sad Tamim.

Tamim came under the English Club’s radar after his two consecutive Test tons during Bangladesh’s England tour last year. The hundred at the Lords was the first century by a Bangladeshi cricketer at the home of cricket while the second one came at the Old Trafford.

The dashing opener was approached by some of the county sides for the T20 tournament but being more interested in the longer versions of the game, Tamim rejected the offers.

However, Worcestershire, the club which Bangladesh skipper Shakib Al Hasan plays for in the county, also showed their interest in Tamim last season.
