Default Rubel Hossain = Overrated

Just because he is the fastest Bangladeshi bowler, doesn't make him a good prospect, certainly not for test cricket...

Check his FC bowling records, he averages 50ish so if the our mediocre domestic batsmen can play him so well so how good is he gonna be at the test level?

Sideline.

Good call khalek bhai his first class stats aren't very impressive which isn't a good sign if we are to give him a chance in test cricket. In the two test matches he played against the Windies he only looked good with the ball in the first innings of his debut match which was the only time he picked up wickets.

He's too young for Test cricket. Let him ripen.

I say Mahbubul Alam can be dangerous when the ball's swinging... bit like James Anderson...

Yes he's young but look at Mohammad Aamer from Pakistan.. by just looking at him you can say he is the next Wasim Akram.

I don't know but I think he can be as dangerous as James Anderson with the new ball when it's swinging but the only thing he lacks is pace..

Fast means fast - that's the shane nuzul of the word PACE.
If someone has pace he becomes a prospect, or else perish like Rasel.
Swinging is of value when you can mix it with raw pace. Otherwise I would choose an off-spinner.

His ODI,List A and youth ODI career is good. There he is not over rated. We dont have good quality regulaly performing test bowler except Mash and He has ability to reverse swing the old ball may be those have played a role in his test debu. His first class career is never ever good and he has not been teste properly for longer version before test debut. This is the situation i dislike most. Now selectors may not select him in the team and will frustrate the bowler even this type of decision may ruin his career, our selectors need to understand this.Carry him on for ODI,give chance to play more domestic FC and A Team FC matches. Test him out there if succeed then call him in national test team. It should be the procedure.

In last first class season Rubel played only one match and he took a five wk haul in that match. He was injured most of the season.

Why do we never call up Nazmul for tests? he didn't do all that bad against India on his debut. IMO we are just letting bowlers get into the scene and then sideline them after a while (Look at Sajidul Islam), I am expecting this guy to perish soon as well.

Exactly, its really stupid to state that he doesnt have potential. Ofcourse he does, I saw him get reverse swing in some of his matches. Something even mash struggles with. He just needs more control thats all. And how dare you say he wont be good enough for tests ? pace is a valuable thing for a fast bowler in tests. He can also bowl well with the old ball, he has the potential to become our ultimate death bowler.

This aamer guy is obviously an early bloomer. Rubel isnt but with good coaching he will be just as good as him in a few years if not better. I believe that hard work always pays off and in this case rubel already has some essentials for a pacer, like speed and reverse swing, all he is missing is control.

He is not.

He just shouldn't play Tests at all for atleast next 2/3 years. He needs to add more variations to his bowling.

Hmm only 12 FC matches, Aamer had played only 11 FC matches before being selected for the world T20 and he averaged 16 in there and remember the wickets are a lot flatter in Pakistan than in Bangladesh. Talk about coaching after playing 2 tests, at this level coaching doesn't help. You need to have that natural talent, what pace are you guys talking about? He can't even consistently get up to 88 MPH and guess what he's now injured. Each and every domestic bowlers in countries like Australia, England can bowl at about 93 MPH that doesn't make all of them good enough to play test cricket. Many English fast bowlers (Really fast) have come, got injured or did not succeed at the test level.

Look at the likes of Shaun Pollock, Glenn Mcgrath or even Stuart Clark, they've got absolutely no pace, even worse than Bangladeshi bowlers but they were both legends cause they had the natural talent of picking up wickets. As far as quick bowlers are concerned, look at Mitchell Johnson, his seam position is terrible but he can still pick up wickets (100+ wickets in 20 matches) and again this goes to show you need to have that natural talent.

I think we need to stop getting over-excited about average talents in the country and look forward to those who have already proved themselves by picking up wickets at the domestic level.

So pretty much you are saying Rubel Hossain should be as good as Mohammad Aamer? Mohammad Aamer is 1 of a kind and is ready for international cricket..He's just a prodigy..You can't just expect Hossain to be just like Aamer.. now question is should he have gotten in to international cricket so ? I don't think so..he still needs a lot more time..it doesn't mean he's overrated tho..your just talkin way too early..let him develop 1st and then talk

He should be given enough time to prepare himself before Test match.
End of story.

This is probably the tenth thread on this player being overrated. Have you guys forgotten.

Rubel is very overrated like all young prospects. I remember the time when Mahbubul Alam made his debut and people were like he is the best and he is very good swinger. The same goes for Dolar Mahmud. Rubel needs to have more control over his bowling.

Rubel is no Mohammed Aamer, who is really good for his age.
