Bangladesh grouped with Pakistan and West Indies in ICC U19 World Cup 2010
http://www.cricinfo.com/u19wc2010/co...ry/431870.html
Quote:
Defending champions India will open their campaign against Afghanistan at the Bert Sutcliffe Oval near Christchurch on the opening day of the Under-19 World Cup. The tournament, which will be played in New Zealand from January 15-30, will also have Pakistan face West Indies in Palmerston North, and South Africa, the 2008 runners-up, taking on Ireland in Queenstown on the same day.
The 16 teams for the competition have been split into four groups; Groups A and C will be based in and around Christchurch, Group B in Queenstown and Group D in Napier and Palmerston North.
In addition to the 10 Full Members, six Associate and Affiliate teams are taking part having won through their respective regional qualifying tournaments as well as the global qualifiers held in Canada in September.
The top two teams from each group will qualify for the quarter-finals with the remaining teams taking part in the plate competition.
Groupings:
A: India, England, Afghanistan, Hong Kong
B: South Africa, Australia, Ireland, USA
C: New Zealand, Sri Lanka, Zimbabwe, Canada
D: Pakistan, Bangladesh, West Indies, Papua New Guinea
|
We are in the group of death. Pakistan and West Indies have some good fast bowlers and in NZ it might be difficult for our batsmen to play them. Notice India's group: England, Afghanistan and Hong Kong.

We'll do well inshaAllah. The team spirit surely will be running high because of the recent performances. Okay, are the cubs playing any games in-between this England series and the WC in January?

Surely we are in very hard group. But if we dont able to overcome from this group then we are not a good team to go SemiFinal or Final.

Man England would be one of the poorer sides there...and look at their freaking group? The pools are so rigged.

Pools are based on performance of last WC. And don't let success make you arrogant. In 2006, we were beaten in QF by an England team with which we had a 11 match winning streak.

I remember that match. Biggest fluke ever. The England captain himself said "We can only hope they [Bangldesh] take us for granted." They were lucky enough to win the toss and bowl first in such horrible batting conditions.

Yes, it was pure bad luck. I hope this time the luck will be on our side.

I read that there will be a tri series in BD involving Pakistan, SL and BD U/19, I read it in the SL newspaper after SLU19 beat Australia U19. This will be good practice because Pak and SL are 2 very strong teams.

AFter last years debacle vs South Africa ... I don't know and than the 06 bannana peal
That 2006 team ... with Mehrab, Mushy, Tamim, Shakib decided to take one game off vs England such a rubbish side and got elminated, we were the beast team by far in that comptetiton went 7-1 i think

That 2006 WC loss to the English was among our saddest ever - what a side we had that year!
This time around, we have a good side with a decent bowling attack but I think we will have some serious issues batting in the NZ conditions esp since batting isn't our strength. Both Pak and WI are likely to have strong bowling attacks and unless our bowlers really perform well to restrict the opposition to small totals, it wouln't be esay to come up with good results in the tournament.

The cubs have to concentrate on winning two games in the group to advance to the next stage. I am sure that they can manage this.

Pakistan are a good side i saw them play against Zimbabwe at St Johns school last month and they have some proper express pace bowlers and with some good spinners but there batting didnt look that impressive.
I get a feeling that Bangladesh could really suprise a few people in the world cup and i expect them to get to the semi finals at least.
I think you will able to asses the strength of banglaesh after the Zimbabwe under 19's tour as you can then compare them to the pakistan side.
Just a warning to you guys that it will be the first tour our under 19's have ever done outside africa so to be honest we are not expecting miricles just that they experiance playing in diffrent conditions and learn from there mistakes.
We have a couple of good spinners and watch out for Dylan Higgins our skipper who is a leg spinning allrounder.

The whole thing will help the pace bowlers since it is in NZ. So Pak and WI have the upper hand. However, with experience these kids have against Spin I'd back our spinners. Pak would be difficult but WI should not pose a big threat.
How is Zim U-19 team? Can they take on the host? SL's unit is solid as always.

Theres a lot a talant in the side but they are very raw and have not been exposed to express pace bowling as in the last few years as our cricket system the junior ranks have been neglected.
But we have some players who are capable of big things. Before the series against Bangladesh UNder 19's ill post a preveiw of the Zimbabwe sqaud with more info about the players.
Im just excited that the boys are going to able to be tested against a good quality Bangladesh side which is something the side in the last under 19 world cup was not able to do, as they were underprepared for the world cup and the results showed that. BUt im hoping for a much better performance this time.
