Default WC 2011 Initial Team

World cup is only a year and half away. I think it is high time to form a core group of 30 players for the world cup. I think December 2009 should be the time when we should declare this team. If we want to do well in WC 2011 we have keep them focused, feed them, and train them together. Once this group is formed then there will be no change afterward. No more future talent to be included. I think we have to include a good number of pace bowlers as they more susceptible to injury. What do you think about it and who should be there?

Too early for that. We never know whether a proven performer will make a good name from the pipeline and come to the spotlight within the next couple of months. So plenty of time before taking the decisions.

Mate, you are getting just a bit carried away with the news of the fixture.
These bunch of boys does already have a hectic schedule for the better part of next year.
There is no need to declare a squad till Dec '10.

Well things could always change, but what Kana-Baba is suggesting here is to make a core group of 30 players and I support that. 30 is a big number and someone not currently in that group would have to do exceptionally well to make the list within the next year and a half or so. It doesn't have to be formal, but I hope the officials have some sort of a tentative list at the back of their minds. A couple of adjustments here and there are fine and expected (as in everything else in life), but the World Cup is no joking matter and with the right kind of preparation, we can go pretty far this time. I wasn't as hopeful of our chances of making an impression in the last few tournaments, but given that we will be playing at home with an exciting bunch of players makes me very optimistic this time.

Ideally, we would be picking from a list of 20, or even better 15, and give these guys enough time to play together. It's important that we figure out our opening, fast bowling and all rounder (Nayeem or Riyad or both/where in the batting line-up) woes starting with the series against India, because history tells us Bangladeshi players are not self-starters and thus bringing in someone new at the brink of the world cup may not work out too well.

I agree that initial planning with the team should start now. In fact, I'll be very disappointed if BCB doesn't have a core team in mind for the T20 WC by now as well.

Its important that BCB has a 5 game ODI series planned with one of the teams from the other group in order to be prepared for the WC just prior.

moreover we will not have ENOUGH matches before World Cup like what Aussi,India,SA CAN GET. very rare series against top class teams. so If we clear our one (may be imaginary at least )and play in those series before WC we can assure a team during WC which can play like a team. "TeamBD"

Yes, it would be good strategy to create a team this early. However, there should be room for continuous improvement. Who is to say, Rubel comes back with vengeance!! Final team selections should be done thinking of the opponents Strength and weaknesses, pitch conditions, the players’ value added in the team.

i agree, last time we got lucky with tamim and his lucky 50 against india. we also got lucky that he turned into a genuine batsman.

i think the short list should be 20-22 players long. no point picking 30 players a third of whom don't have a shot in hell at making the final squad.

I think this 30 member team should be selected after completion of this domestic league

inviting zim/kenya before world cup 2011 might not be a bad idea, we need as much practice as possible.

Long way to go before any of this stuff. It would be advised not to jump your gun too early, as even the ICL players have not yet been tested. Also players like Imrul and Rubel are in a very complicated place rite at this point. Lets wait and see what happens.

Simple example of complication: Here in BC many of you might be dying to see Aftab again. Many others here (myself included), hope this fella never comes back to the national squad again until he learns to score high regularly and gets at least a couple of centuries to his name.
P.S. Please do not discuss this in this thread. It was meant to be a mere example.

Not really!
We saw many players do well in the domestic league and fail to support their inclusion in the main team.

Very well done Wiseshah, but I would like to see talha zubair and Tarek aziz in the main core as well. Because they will always be the main pacers of A team if not national team. And the way our pacers get injured, u never know.

my stand in some of the issues raised by you guys:

- it is not too early, but i guess we can form the core group after domestic cricket.
- need plenty of pacers in that list as they are more injury prone.
- core team of 30 is not too big, we need to keep backup in mind other than playing 11 as players are injury prone and they sometimes looses form.
- i m not seeking military type hardcore training for these players for a year, just mild training and extra care form BCB will be fair enough. Even if they do mild practice, forming core group will help them to be focused about their wc2011 mission.

Not at all a problem. Just a typo I think.

Good topic to discuss.
