wow, bad news. Big bad news. First Becks, now Rio. Englands hopes are shattered with their defence.

A massive, massive setback for England. Feel very sad for Rio. This can't be good for the team morale.

King's a good player though, even if I can't see him playing in all of the games (he'll probably sit out of Game 3). And Carragher and Dawson are good replacements, even if the former has had a poor season by his standards.

Oh we'll be fine. Terry + King/Carragher will be good enough for the group stages at least.

This was originally England's official anthem of UEFA Euro 96.
It's coming home
It's coming home
It's coming
Football's coming home

Someone tel Robert Green how to catch the ball! What a horrendous way to give away a goal!
It's not all bad though. England and USA are favourites in the group anyway. But that really was a missed opportunity for England to get off to a flying start.
Oh well. C'mon England!

It isn't that the England fans are any more ashamed than we have been since 1990. We are used to disappointments. A little like supporting Bangladesh in cricket!
The team is yet to tie their shoe laces let alone get on the field. England is known to be a flop is big tournaments and what little we got in the past, in 1990 and 1996, this generation seems to accept that as graceful defeats. The next match would be different. This is the most creative German team since their late 60s and early 70s squad. In the happy Ozil, they have perhaps the player of the tournament so far. As much as I would love to see Ozil and his team to play against Argentina, what a match that would be, I would rather that we could frustrate him on Sunday. He is only 20. His time would come. We hour is about to pass and we need at least a lightly stamped visa on that World Cup passport as 'credible' attendees!
