Default This is what the captain needs to do.

After the fall of the first wkt in the next game, I seriously feel that Sakib as the captain and the other premier batsman in the team after Tamim, needs to stand up and come out at no.3. This is what captains do. They take up the challenge in the face of adversity. They shield weaknesses by putting their own neck on the line. We have no reserve batsmen in the squad ( thanks BCB ) and the two batsmen that are above him in the order will not or can not do the job right now. Sakib has the mental fortitude. He has the air of dominance about him. With the no.3 comes added responsibility, but ability has to be there and I think he does have the ability. I think he also needs some time in the middle. He will have plenty of it at no.3. I say, he needs to do this for his own batting, and for the team.

Captain needs to write down what are his responsibilities. Then write down each and everyone roles and responsibilities. Who ever the captain is.

Agreed, though, Shakib himself not in form, thus, things are not so easy to manage. Rak, Ash also are no good... and as Mijan bhai mentioned-no backup batters in the squad makes it more difficult for the captain.

Good to have vision, only execution can minimize the formal gap.
Talent without application, plan without execution resembles somewhat national behavior.
ATM we are all waiting for inconsistency to flourish in all sector.

They are always out of form against quality opponents.

They should look at the aussies and then then they will see what role playing is, each and every player tries to fulfil his role, and this is the way they win games because each player knows what his role is and executes it.

Not a good idea as Sak isn't scoring runs & looks uncomfortable.
Don't know wether Saki is out of form but I think their is a huge problem with his temperment & concentration.
He has lost his cool head, tries to play unnecessary shots.
Before he used to deal more with singles, doubles & wait for the easy ones to hit.
If he plays like before he will start scoring regularly.

Crucial captaincy errors last match:

1. Giving the ball to diminutive Nazmul at the right time, when Shahadat & Shafiul both had overs left.
2. Pacers not instructed to attack # 8 batsman with bouncers.

3. The Grand mystery - why Riyadh is still at # 8? How long more? Riyadh should be nurtured to become our permanent # 3.

4. Ash should have came out at 7.

So if it was mash as captain should he come at no 3? no. shakib at 3 is not a bad idea but the logic is wrong. a captain must know the best available solution and apply it

I dont get it. Why it is all the time Shakib, Shakib, Shakib who has to do it all? Why do we even need a coach then?

Agree with Beamer here....but I highly doubt he is up for this challenge at this moment.
He looked TIRED, stressed, worried, nervous in the 1st ODI, which was not the case against WI and ZIM.
Something is terribly going wrong here...

Captain makes on-field decisions, not the coach. Frankly, I think Shakib is still suffering from the Lotus syndrome. I did not like his body language in the last few matches at all. It's almost as if this is not the same Shakib.

Captain and the rest of the players have their job description and responsibilities written in their professional contracts with BCB but this hardly get implemented. I think professionalism and complacency are big issues in BD cricket. Accordingly, it is difficult to address these issues because of public sentiment. “Golden boys” are historically untouchable and that is where we invite downfall.

not all premium batsman is #3 material. captain's job is to best use his arsenal. in this case mushy is a better #3 than him

I don't think he should come at 3. Right now, he lacks confidence for whatever reason. Mushfiq has played #3 before and did okay to be honest. Better than whatever Ash is doing right now for sure. Let Mahmudullah build the innings at 4. Let Ash and Aftab go nuts at the late overs. What Shakib should do is play an innings like he played against India. Starts out slow, take singles and then go for his shots when he is on 20-30s. Right now, he is just trying to hit out of all the trouble and that's always a recipe for disaster.

Exactly my friend. You don't promote (in the batting order) a struggling batsman, unless ofcourse you want to kill his career.

Ideally a good coach will have 3 players ready for each slot. A struggling A team #3 should be replaced by an inform #3 from Team B or Team C. #1 through #6 are for specialized batsmen.
You cant replace an opener with a #6.

Obviously it requires the coach to work twice as hard to make 3 sets of players. 11X3=33 players. As ridiculous as this might sound, in reality thats what you need. If you watch NFL, thats how these coaches build and run their team. Thats what works and thats how you need to build a team, a core team followed by 2 shadow or backup team. It is all possible when the head coach is professional, smart, proactive and dedicated and most importantly worried not to get fired. In cricket, first thing a head coach should do is to build a strong captain, since the captain is out in the field to exceute the coaches gameplan....

When you are too busy to do above, too busy with vacation, obviously you will end up with a core team only, with no backup player in the bench.......

Actually, you don't even have to go that far. Look at this NZ side - even in the absence of their main fast bowlers, Andy McKay is making us crap our pants. Ingram's still a hell of a lot better than possibly all of our batsmen.
